Cynthia Elfreda, the second child of John Washington Adair and Cynthia Jane Penrod, was also born in Overton, Nevada on December 9, 1896. She was married to Wilmer A. Stephens in December 1917. Cynthia and Wilmer were first cousins one generation removed. Temperance Susan Penrod is the grand-aunt of Cynthia. She was married to Wilmer's father, William Adams Stephens.

Cynthia died April 30, 1918 in Pinetop, at the young age of twenty-one, while giving birth to her only son, Wilmer Robin Stephens. The cause of her death was recorded as Puerperal Albuminuria. The Albumin protein, when found in urine, can cause kidney damage (Lakeside Ward Membership Records).

John was working in Whiteriver at the time of her passing. He saw a shooting star the night Cynthia died, and knew without being told that his daughter was gone. The baby died July 1, 1919 from Enteritis, or inflammation of the intestines (Lakeside Ward Membership Records). Cynthia and Wilmer Robin are both buried in the Pinetop Cemetery.
