Cynthia Elfreda Adair Stephens 1896-1918

Cynthia Elfreda, was the second child born to John Washington Adair and Cynthia Jane Penrod. She was born in Overton, Nevada on December 9, 1896. She was married to Wilmer A. Stephens, son of William Adams Stephens and Temperance Susan Penrod in December 1917. Cynthia and Wilmer were first cousins one generation removed. Their common ancestors were William Lewis Penrod and Polly Ann Young Riggs. Temperance Susan Penrod is the grand-aunt of Cynthia. She was married to Wilmer's father, William Adams Stephens.

Cynthia died April 30, 1918 in Pinetop, at the young age of twenty-one, while giving birth to her only son, Wilmer Robin Stephens. The cause of her death was recorded as Puerperal Albuminuria. The Albumin protein, when found in urine, can cause kidney damage (Lakeside Ward Membership Records).

John was working in Whiteriver at the time of her passing. He saw a shooting star the night Cynthia died, and knew without being told that his daughter was gone. The baby died July 1, 1919 from Enteritis, or inflammation of the intestines (Lakeside Ward Membership Records).

After Cynthia passed away Wilmer married Hazel Irene Sanders, daughter of William Thomas Sanders and Phoebe Jane Freeman on January 7, 1926 in Lordsburg, New Mexico.

Wilmer, Cynthia and their son Wilmer Robin are buried in the Pinetop Arizona Cemetery.
