Remember that ALL Boeing Plans, PENSION , VIP, and FSP are covered by
the same set of regulations - ERISA
ERISA stands for the Employees Retirement and Income Security Act of
1974. ERISA gives you certain rights.
I asked Boeing in July-Aug 1997 for some information about the retirement plan, and how my benefits were calculated. The responses were confused and misleading. After 15 months of jousting with Boeing, I firmly believe there are severe problems with the administration of all the Boeing Plan(s).
Unfortunately, Boeing has been less than up front about how your benefits are really calculated, and how to get the information you need.
My DENIAL APPEAL FINAL ANSWERThese problems are not unique to Boeing. They are typical of about 1 in 5 pension plans.
The U.S.Senate and the Department of Labor are trying to get people to pay attention and understand their pension plan. Look up Senator Grassley and S1185 REFLINKS
Unless YOU understand the current plan, how can YOU possibly determine the quality of the "new and improved" plan.
Whether you are hourly or exempt, your negotiators may not be aware of your concerns .
I hope to change that.
Because only YOU can help yourselves, and in the process help to protect my benefits. Unions cannot negotiate for retirees. While your basic pension pay cannot ever be cut, your medical benefits CAN be significantly reduced if you do not have a contract. . Your benefits (and indirectly mine) are only as good as the last contract.
PENSION PLAN
My analysis and description of the Credited Service Problem is the result of months of research, written Boeing responses to myself and others, discussions with the Dept of Labor and persons knowledgeable about ERISA. There are several other significant problems related to company administration and decisions about the pension plan, which are not discussed here. I am focusing on the Credited Service issue because it is generic to current employees and retirees.
Will your benefits be more, less, or the same ? How will you be able to tell ?
Can you rely on phone answers or " payroll procedures" answers to these and similar questions ?
Do you know how unused vacation, sick leave hours, and overtime hours worked in the year of your retirement affect your pension ? Read FINAL ANSWER to my appeal.
Did you know once every 12 months you can request a written estimate ? 93SPD4-22.html
