Mr Brown - Thank you for your response .
However, your characterization of the retirement date does not seem to be in accordance with the documents and sections you have mentioned.
"Regarding your comment on mid-month retirements, the Retirement Plan provides in Article 3 that all retirements will occur on the first day of a month (after satisfaction of retirement eligibility"
To quote from Doc 001_BOEW22A_96.doc - the current Plan document.
Article 1 Definitions - page 12
Para 1.38 " Retirement Date means the date a participant's monthly benefits begin in accordance with Article 3
Article 3 Retirement Date page 18
Para 3.1 " A participant's Normal Retirement Date will be the first day of the month coincident with or next following the Participant' Normal
Retirement Age. "
*** What does the above have to do with the last day of work being on the 5th, 10, 15th, or whenever. ? That document simply specifies the bookkeeping or record date of retirement, and when benefits begin. I can find NO requirement or notice re the last day of work ie; last day of work on the 10th of the month in ANY of the Plan documentation previously supplied by your organization.
If you will check closely, you will find that payroll has not yet figured out how to correctly keep track of the unused/accrued vacation timefor a person retireing on the 5th, 10th, or whatever date. To avoid the paperwork involved, people have been told to retire at the 'end of the month " or similar.
And I have yet to find anybody who has been able to reach the same conclusions re the 2000 hour limit with only the SPD for guidance .
I believe correction of this misinformation is past due..
Thank you Don Shuper
