WHO?
The Drool Brothers eclectic mixes of sonic experiments defy category.
They feel at ease lifting mid 70's Kool and the Gang grooves as they
do crafting pop melodies, only to destroy them with Zappa-esque dissonance.
The press has mentioned Zappa, P-Funk, Beck, Mancini, New York Dolls,
and the Cars when trying to describe the Drool Brothers. Chuck Mancillas
and Tom Slik (real brothers) and friend, Joe Kramer, are native Angelinos,
but are somewhat alienated from the pretentious Los Angeles music scene.
Ironically, they are an inextricable part of its culture and history
and have backed an array of underground heroes such as the Killer Crows,
Kristian Hoffman, Legal Weapon, Jigsaw Seen, Texas Terri, Harry Dean
Stanton, and many, many more. Their diverse musical background serves
as the basis for their own eclectic music.
BLAH BLAH BLAH…
The Drool Brothers started recording in their parent's garage in the
mid-80's with a 4-track cassette recorder, radio shack mixer and home
speakers. It wasn't until 1996, after investing in feasible recording
gear, when they recorded and released their first single "Halloweenish."
The orange vinyl 7" became a cult college radio classic and appeared
on two heralded compilation CD's. It still gets a spin now and then
as it was heard on the revolutionary BBCi John Peel show years after
its release.
2000
Their
first full length critically acclaimed self titled CD, released in 2000,
charted on several college radio stations such as NOTRE DAME's WSND
and EAST TEXAS' KSAU. The lead track, "Fullerton", was featured on the
revolutionary, but now defunct "Joe's Grille" syndicated radio show
and compilation CD and was heard on over 200 radio stations throughout
the US while the retro-soul track "Can't Stand the Heat" became a DJ
favorite in L.A. clubs.
2003
They
released a pink vinyl 45 entitled GALS, a psychedelic bossa nova, and
sent out a vanity pack to the 1st 10 gals who bought it through their
web-site. The song's B-side is featured on the "Diggin for Gold"
compilatiion from Double Crown records!
2004
2004 marked the release of their new record, KASIO MONTIGO, and features
appearances by Chuck and Tom's basement Freudian mother, Sally Mancillas,
legendary DOG guitarist, Loren Molinare, and omniscient Pakistanian
popster, Tariq Mirza (Tee-M). The CD charted on ultra swank College
radio stations across the country such as NPR station KRUX New Mexico
and KSJS San Jose. It even found a #1 spot in WINONA MN!
