It’s easy to get 100,000 miles out of your car, and you might even get 250,000. You don’t need to know how cars work, but you do need to:

  1. maintain your vehicle according to a schedule, and
  2. keep a maintenance log book.

Record the date, mileage, work done, cost and perpetrator. After a few entries, the log becomes a picture of your car’s health. You’ll immediately see what’s been done, and what’s next. Tape a copy of the chart showing when to do what into your log.
