Reverse Engineering technologies are nowadays essential to reduce the design time and obtain high quality products. Reverse Engineering actually does complete CAD/CAM and Rapid Prototyping technologies DESIGN LOOP - the process that includes: "concept development-design-engineering-production".
![]() Starting from the digitization of a physical model it is now possible to generate a 3D CAD model that becomes the starting point of new product development. This service allows us to offer different file types according to customer needs. Starting from a virtual point cloud obtained from the scanning process, we're now able to create STL files suited to production and Rapid Prototyping, NURBS surfaces (B class), style surfaces (A class), parametric solids. The same hardware and software tools used for Reverse Engineering allow us to completely digitize the surfaces of a part. These can be compared with the original CAD model, and a measurement report generated that highlights the dimensional problems in the production process. Our new Reverse Engineering service offers you a qualified consultancy for 3D scanning, CAD modeling, and dimensional inspection and quality control of components and equipment. To offer this service, CRP Technology has a 7-axis CMM Faro Platinum Arm with a Faro Laser Line Probe optical system. The spherical measuring range is 3 m (10 ft.). The scanning speed is 19,200 points/second and the 2 sigma accuracy in non-contact measurements is 0.05mm. The system is completely portable and allows us to make 3D scanning and measurements at any customer site. The use of the 7 axis arm combined with the laser system permits making contact measurements or optical scanning at the same time, using the same reference system. The lightness of the tool and the huge number of degrees of freedom makes the scanning of complex and difficult to probe parts fast and reliable. CRP Technology also has various Three-dimensional Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM's). The medium accuracy of the 4 machines is given by E = (3.8 + 4.5 L) microns and E = max error with L expressed in meters. Various measurement software packages permit off-line data processing and the inspection of geometrical features and surfaces. All 4 measurement machines have a Renishaw PH10M probing set and an automatic probe changer (Renishaw SCR200). This CMM configuration allows great measurement flexibility while maintaining maximum accuracy. This new Reverse Engineering and Dimensional Inspection Service allows many Applications, including:
