Milestone Demonstrates Continued Success for Revolutionary Rapid Prototyping and Functional Fluids Deposition Platform SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 15, 2006 -- FUJIFILM Dimatix, Inc. announced that it shipped more than 5,000 Dimatix Materials Cartridges to customers in the first year of production of its Dimatix Materials Printer (DMP) systems. The cartridges are a key component of the DMP, which is used by developers of printable functional fluids and engineering groups to investigate unique new approaches to RFID, printable electronics, photovoltaics, biotechnology applications and other leading-edge technologies. "The Dimatix Materials Cartridges are one of the most unique features of our DMP system," said Martin Schoeppler, vice president, sales and marketing, FUIJIFILM Dimatix. "Customers can fill the single-use cartridges with their own fluids, and then quickly change out the cartridges for their next project. The cartridge's small 1.5ml capacity helps them conserve expensive fluids. With the DMP and the Dimatix Materials Cartridge, customers can easily test formulations and process conditions to evaluate the potential of ink jet printing in reducing manufacturing costs and creating new electronics and bioscience applications." The DMP is a bench-top precision digital materials deposition system with versatile capabilities. It is the world's first complete, low-cost solution for high-precision jetting of all kinds of functional fluids on any type of surface, including plastic, glass, metal sheets, silicon, membranes, gels, thin films and paper. Relying on FUJIFILM Dimatix's proprietary monolithic silicon-based MEMS structure to create a low-cost, 16-jet cartridge for precise, high-speed materials jetting, the DMP is a turnkey system for quickly developing and testing processes and prototypes, as well as conducting low-volume manufacturing of a broad range of products -- from flexible circuits, RFID tags and displays to DNA arrays, optical lenses and wearable electronics. By directly printing on their own substrates, customers can rapidly develop prototypes and keep process technology in-house. The printer's small size and low price make it convenient and easy to use and own. Because the DMP platform was designed from the outset as a cost-effective picoliter precision jetting tool, it does not suffer from the component integration issues and related cost and complexity associated with traditional prototyping or production ink jet equipment. With more than 5,000 cartridges and 100 DMP systems shipped, FUJIFILM Dimatix is continuing its more than 20-year tradition of designing and manufacturing the industry's most reliable and robust ink jet printing solutions.
