Lake Forest, CA - November 16, 2006 - Able to work with raw scanned data, SolidWorks® 2007 Office Premium offers 3D CAD users unprecedented compatibility with Roland’s LPX-600 3D laser scanner. With the touch of a button, SolidWorks users can now use the LPX-600 to capture detailed models with watertight surfaces.
"The tedious CAD editing process is now a thing of the past for SolidWorks users," said Pedro Gonzalez, Roland ASD 3D applications engineer. "For less than $12,000, they can use the LPX-600 to automatically scan complex organic shapes. Rather than wasting hours fixing scanned data, they can spend their valuable time designing." The LPX-600 scans objects up to 16 inches tall and 10 inches in diameter. The desktop device then automatically generates detailed models with a watertight surface and resolutions up to 0.008 inch. It captures complex data for consumer products, packaging, jewelry, and a host of biomedical applications. Bundled LPX EZ Studio reverse engineering software automatically fills holes, scans, aligns and merges planes of 3D models that can be used directly in SolidWorks® 2007 Office Premium. "Our automated process typically saves designers two to five hours on every scanned object," added Gonzalez. "Rapid prototyping and reverse engineering are increasingly important areas in manufacturing," said Efrat Ravid, solution partner program manager of SolidWorks Corporation. "The integration achieved between the LPX-600 and SolidWorks software yields increased productivity for our customers." LPX EZ Studio supports a wide range of data output formats, including STL, PIX and 3DM. STL files are used by the industry’s most popular rapid prototyping systems, including those manufactured by Roland, 3D Systems, Stratasys, Z-Corp and Solidscape.
