If consumer fireworks are legalized in Redmond, they will not cause a noticeable increase in injuries/fires, then my research will show that it is perceived that fireworks cause more injuries/fires than they actually do.

• The United States government considers all consumer fireworks safe for public use.  It is local governments that enforce bans on fireworks.


• Items such as "M-80s" and "Cherry Bombs" are not considered consumer fireworks and should not be legalized.  These are the types of fireworks that cause most injuries.


• Of the few injuries due to fireworks, only a very small minority of them are caused by faulty fireworks.  Almost every firework injury is due to the abuse of fireworks.


• 99.4% of fires in the US are not attributed to fireworks.


• The number of injuries caused by fireworks is going down while the amount of fireworks being sold is increasing rapidly.  This means there is an increased awareness of firework safety and the fireworks themselves have become safer.


• It usually continues to rain in Redmond throughout June and only starts to become dry after the Fourth of July.  Green things don't burn easily!
