Tips to Stay Safe on the Fourth

  • Supervise children.  They will probably not follow instructions if left alone.

  • Use fireworks in an open area--never indoors.

  • Always place fireworks on  level ground.  Keep head as far away as possible when lighting.

  • Follow instructions on package.  Don't put fireworks in anything such as a bottle or can.

  • Never hold a lighted firework in your hand.

  • Don't try to make your own fireworks.

  • Keep a hose or fire extinguisher ready when shooting off fireworks.

  • If a firework fails to go off, leave it there for 5 minutes, then put it in a bucket of water.

  • Use eye protection.

  • Remember that bottle rockets cause the most injuries and fires.

  • Know what to do in case of a burn

  • Use only legal fireworks

If everyone followed these simple rules, there would be a lot less injuries and fires and fireworks possibly would not be banned.
