Birth Experience

I am the mother of three children born 1982, 1984 and 1986. I was cared for by midwives. My second and third births were drug free.

As primary midwife, I have personally managed the care of 242 births. Some of this number resulted in instrumental or Cesarean Section deliveries by doctors where I remained primary midwife and assisted in those births.

The number of women I looked after in labor is unknown as in the UK I worked on a shift system therefore would have to leave if the baby had not been born by the end of my shift. (This number is likely to be in the region of 750)

As a secondary midwife, I have assisted with at least 408 births. Again, this number is probably higher. The assisting births were never counted in the UK. This is a minimum number.

This is a total of at least 650 births.

This information was current as of August 1999.
