07/21/2001: Cappie Pondexter and the USA Basketball Women's Junior World Championship Team won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic.  Cappie was one of the stars of the bronze medal game.

07/26/2001: Rutgers has announced that Cappie will be a partial qualifier for the 2001-2002 women's basketball team.  She will be allowed to practice with the team, but may not travel or play in any games this season.

Her conference's Most Valuable Player, Chapman is an honorable mention USA Today All-American, a Street & Smith's All-American and a Nike All-American. Also a first-team all-state selection, Chapman is rated #51 by Blue Star.  Plays for AAU team CT Starters.

From USA Today: 02/28/2001: Results: Beat Bacon Academy (Colchester) 49-29 to win its third consecutive Eastern Connecticut Conference tournament title. Defeated New London 68-42 in the semifinals. MVP Saona Chapman had 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the final. Next: Wednesday vs. Hamden in the Class LL state tournament second round.

From USA Today: 03/07/2001: Results: Beat Hamden 84-39 and Newtown (Sandy Hook) 67-27 in the Class LL state tournament. Saona Chapman and Krista Rappahahn combined for 90 points in two games.

From USA Today: 03/21/2001:  Beat Masuk (Monroe) 63-39 to claim its fourth Class LL championship in six years. MVP Saona Chapman scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Beat New Britain 67-27 in the semifinals.

Chelsea Newton
.
Chelsea Newton (Monroe, LA/Carroll HS), a 5-11 guard, averaged 26 points, 11 rebounds and five steals per game as a junior at Carroll High School. A Nike and Adidas All-American, she also was an honorable mention All-American according to both Street & Smith’s and USA Today. Also an all-state selection, Newton was rated 10th by Women's Basketball Journal, 13th by the All Star Girls Report and 23rd by Blue Star. In addition, Newton also competes in the high (5-2) and long jumps on the Carroll High School track and field team, is a straight-A student and serves as her class president.  Plays for Kamikaze AAU team.

11/22/2000: The Lady Bulldogs easily defeated the McCall Dragons 61-25.  Rutgers signee Chelsea Newton pumped in 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.

08/18/2000: Petillon verbally commits to Rutgers ( also mentions other RU recruits )

Amber Petillon (Brick, NJ/Brick Township HS), a 6-4 center, led her league with 19.8 points per game last season at Brick Township High School. Named to the coaches' All-Class A South Team, Petillon also was named to the Asbury Park Press All-Shore Second Team last year. A Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American, she was rated the 83rd-best senior in the nation by Blue Star.

Cappie Pondexter

Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL/John Marshall HS), a 5-9 two-guard, averaged 21 points and eight rebounds per game as a junior at John Marshall High School. Named an honorable mention All-American by USA Today, a first-team All-American by Street & Smith's, an All-American by Reebok/Women's Basketball Coaches Association, a Junior All-American by Student Sports and an All-American by Nike, Pondexter was Illinois' Miss Basketball last season. Also a member of the U.S. National Junior Team, she was a consensus first-team all-state selection a year ago. She is rated third by Blue Star, eighth by Fox Student Sports, ninth by Full Court Press, 20th by Women's Basketball Journal and 24th by the All Star Girls Report. As a member of the U.S. National Junior Team, she helped lead that club to the gold medal at last summer's World Championships in Mardelplata, Argentina.  Former high school teammate of Kourtney Walton.

Rebecca Richman

Rebecca Richman (The Bronx, NY/Brooklyn Tech HS), a 6-4 center, averaged 20 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks per game last year at Brooklyn Tech High School. A Street & Smith's sixth-team All-American, as well as an honorable mention All-America selection by USA Today, Richman led her team to the quarterfinals of the city tournament last season and earned all-city honors. Ranked the 22nd-best senior and the 25th-best overall player by Blue Star, Richman scored her 1,000th career point last season. Plays for AAU Team Franchise.

Mariota Theodoris

Mariota Theodoris (Riviera Beach, FL/Suncoast HS), a 6-2 power forward, averaged 14 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks per game last year at Suncoast High School. A first-team all-area and all-city selection, as well as a Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American, she was rated 43rd by Women's Basketball Journal.
