From the Showers to the Bridesmaid Luncheon to the Rehearsal Dinner
this is a time for parties and entertaining.
Shower Themes
For a Bridal Shower consider this centerpiece idea -
Embellish a child's umbrella with ribbon, bows, silk flowers in
lace in either white or any pleasing color scheme.
Include games
if you'd like.
Since showers are gift giving occasions it can help your guests if you offer a
theme for the party. Or perhaps ask everyone to bring a small item for a
large basket to be presented. Some suggestions include:
Boudoir Shower - this is a more general than a
lingerie shower. It includes everything for the
bedroom. This would be ideal as a feminine party with lots of pink and white,
lace, and ribbons.
The gifts can be displayed spilling from a dolls bed or piled on the floor amid lots of pillows.
Party Favors can include scented candles or anything feminine.
The invitations can be sent out attached to sachet.
Kitchen Shower - here everyone can bring everything but the kitchen sink.
The gifts would look great spilling out of large overturned soup pot or bucket.
Send a blank recipe card with every invitation and ask guests to write out a favorite
recipe to add to a matching recipe box.
Party favors might include a wooden spoon or refrigerator magnets.
Teacup Shower - this is a great idea for the collector. Have everyone bring a
teacup to add to or start a collection. The setting could naturally be a
Tea Party.
Party Favors could be tea samples or lovely handkerchiefs.
The invitations can be very feminine with a lace doily trimmed to fit over
pretty paper and for an added touch attach a tea bag.
Stock the Bar - everyone brings a bottle of either wine or liquor.
Other gift items might include glassware, tongs, ice bucket, corkscrew,
napkins with silly messages, wine rack, fine wines or boutique beers.
Party Favors might include shot glasses or bar napkins.
The invitations could be sent out on bar coasters
Shower Shower - here everyone brings something for the bath.
A cute centerpiece might be small tub filled with soaps and spa products.
Use washcloths as napkins.
The gifts can be displayed in a wicker laundry basket.
Party Favors might include fancy soaps or bubble bath.
Garden Shower - focuses on everything for the garden.
Gifts could be displayed in a wheel barrow or spilling from a bird bath. Silverware
and napkins could be tucked inside a garden glove and the food can be served from new, lined terra cotta pots and saucers.
Party Favors could be seed packets or pots filled with candy.
The invitations can be done on the computer as if they were seed packets.
Photography Shower - everyone can be asked to bring a
favorite photo of the bride and or groom for display. Gift
ideas include an album, frames, camera equipment, a VCR, use small
picture frames as place cards.
Party Favors can include disposable cameras or small picture frames.
The invitation can be sent as a scroll in a 35mm film canister.
Or perhaps it could be sent as a photograph on a post card.
Bridesmaid Luncheon
Whether you choose an elegant afternoon tea, slumber party, day at a
spa, dinner at a restaurant, or share a pizza at home this will be
the perfect time to distribute gifts to the bridesmaids.
A delightful tradition includes baking a ring, coin or thimble
inside a pink cake for desert. Legend says that the maiden whose
slice of cake contains the trinket will be the next to wed.
If you would prefer to give everyone a charm bake them inside but
attach them to a ribbon placed equally around, and extending from
the cake. The charms have meanings: clover/good luck, wedding bells/
next to get married, high chair/lots of children and so on. As a gift at
the end of the luncheon, the bride can give each bridesmaid a charm
bracelet. If you need help with this try a
Gift Set. Sentimental verses carefully wrapped in tin foil and
baked in the cake is also a fun idea.
The Rehearsal Dinner
The wedding rehearsal followed by a dinner for members of the
wedding party is traditionally hosted by the groom's family,
however any other close relative or friend may step in.
The guest list includes the attendants, bride, groom, immediate
families, the officiate, out of town guests, spouses, significant
others, and other family and friends.
The rehearsal dinner can be held in a private home or a restaurant.
For an informal option try a potluck with everyone bringing a copy of the recipe to the reception to put add to a cook book provided especially for the occasion.
You may also want to consider baby sitters or someone to organize games so younger children are occupied and happy.
Or consider having a
Grooms Cake at the rehearsal. And a nice centerpiece that can be used at the Wedding might be a
Unity Candle.
