Web Marketing
For Crafters

Before you market make sure your site has fresh, quality content. Getting visitors is the first trick - keeping them is the second. So, keep working on your site, adding fresh up to date content. Find your particular niche and then use more than one type of marketing - keeping track of what works best. Either or will keep track of your referral information. I recommend getting a second e-mail account that can be used when submitting to these sites to avoid clogging your main account with unwanted e-mail.

Search Engines

This is often the first place people will look, some suggestions include:
AOL Search
Alta Vista
Excite
Google
HotBot/Lycos
Webcrawler
Yahoo
You can submit to many from AddMasters.com or AddMe. Scrub the Net also is an easy site to navigate. An article that may be helpful is how to make a Meta Tag Generator

Other Good Places to Add your URL:

Crafty Links
The Crafts Fair Online
100 Craft Links
100 Sewing Links

Banner Exchanges

These are the 'vote for me' type banners to add to a Banners Page or disperse through your Site such as:
A Top 100 Country Sites
Crafters Community Top Sites
You can also find other banner programs on our Top Site Page or other crafters sites.
There are also many sites that will swap banners but notice how they are set up. Some have multiple pages of banners and I suspect the only ones who scroll through are folks looking for other sites to exchange banners with.
Or start your own Top Sites List

FFA

Some Crafting Sites that allow you to add your URL FFA (free for all) - but check the fine print some ask for a return link or that you subscribe to their newsletter:
Country Crafts Free-For-All
Crafters Community

Classified Ads

The Country Gallery

Bulletin Boards

Many sites will allow you to post a message or link to your site such as:
General Crafts and Decorating Bulletin Board

Site Rings

Site Rings are available for all aspects of crafting from gourd art, to crocheting, to painting. Find one or more that fit your crafts and join.
The Buzzy Crafters Site Ring

Mailing Lists

Or e-mail chat groups. This is a good way to network with other crafters in your field. There are too many groups to list and each one will have their own unique profile. Sometimes it is helpful to join, and 'lurk' a bit before jumping in with both feet. That way you'll have a feel for the tone of the group before you introduce yourself. It is generally considered in poor form to advertise from the start. But it is acceptable to add a line or two below your signature pointing readers to your site.
I also recommend a Newsletter as a way of bringing readers to your site and attracting new customers. The number one rule is to maintain quality content. Yahoo has a free service.
