90th Birthday Celebration

The party for my 90th Birthday was the greatest, most wonderful, complete jaw-dropping surprise to me.  I thought we were celebrating at History House because our house is a complete mess, due to the beautiful repainting of my bedroom, which was a gift to me from all my kids. I knew my family would be there, but was absolutely stunned when the crowd that turned up included people I hadn't seen for many years, along with some I had never met, but with whom I had become acquainted through the Internet!  Text Box:

Nancy brought one young lady up to me, saying I had never met this young lady, but could I guess who she is?  I started to say I hadn't a clue, when suddenly I realized she looked like a friend of my early youth and I said, "Margie?".  I hadn't seen Margie for many years.  Actually, since we were both about 18.  It was Margie's daughter, with whom I have been exchanging e-mail since Text Box:

she found my story about her grandparents on the HistoryLink.org website.  She looks enough like her Mom that I guessed right... making a wonderful moment for both of us.

Special to me was to greet schoolmates of my kids who used to come to our house after school… friends and children of friends, Internet friends whom I’d never met, and people who have meant so much to me from many stages of my long life.

Firefighter Dan at the ready!
Nancy stole my address book and called everyone she could find in it to invite them.  There must have been about 60 people there besides my own big family.

Nan and John put together the most wonderful buffet. There was a huge birthday cake with (ugh!) 90 actual candles on it. Dave's friend, Anne, huddled them into two corners, where they made a very impressive couple of flames when lit.
Dan, who is a retired firefighter showed up right then in his firefighting uniform wielding a great big fire extinguisher… but I didn't need him. Old Windy blew out each flaming corner with one breath each!

There was champagne for toasting... and some beautiful toasts....

Lots of pictures were taken and somebody shot a video, I hear.

I enjoyed every minute of it.

I love being 90!

Thank you for your good wishes,
