Brer Bear

Brer Bear

A Character From the Movie: Song of the South (and Splash Mountain!)

Common or Rare: Unusual     (Click to see common/rare scale)

Note: Fully admit our family is taking a break from Disney and are no longer updating this site at this time (2009). Information is probably out-of-date.

Best Spot for meeting this character (if there is one!): Exit to Splash Mountain Ride at Magic Kingdom or maybe in Frontierland by the Shooting Arcade; or the entrance to Animal Kingdom

Your Chances of Finding This Character: He does get out, so chances aren't too bad!

General Info: Brer Bear is the big, bumbling bear who tries to catch Brer Rabbit, from the 1946 Disney movie Song of the South. Brer Bear is probably most recognizable as one of the bad guys in the Splash Mountain Ride! Brer Bear is one of those characters who seems to run hot or cold - either he's out and around all over, or he is not around at all! He does appear sometimes at Magic Kingdom, either near the Shooting Arcade in Frontierland, or somewhere near the Splash Mountain ride. He also sometime pops up for meets at the entrance to Animal Kingdom. Brer Bear is also not known for having great intelligence, as he certainly isn't the smartest bear in the Briar Patch! But he is a fun one to meet, definitely stop and get a photo when you see him!

Character Hunting Tips: - Finding a beloved character can be a child (or adult's!) highlight of a trip to Disney World! On this page, we listed a character we met, also the places we seen this character on our week-long trips (Jan 2003, May 2003, Oct 2003, Jan 2004, April 2004, Oct/Nov 2004, April 2005, Oct 2005, December 2005, January 2006, May 2006, November 2006, February 2007, September 2007, January 2008, October 2008). Some characters were found by some fellow character hunters who were nice enough to help us out! Unfortunately, we aren't local to Florida (wish we were!!!), so we certainly don't know everything about every character! But we tried to list good places to look and recent reliable sightings of that character!

Must say, sometimes finding a favorite character can be difficult! One day you may see a bunch of characters in one spot, and the next day - not one! Some characters may be everywhere on one trip, and nowhere the next! And some characters come out only for 10 minute meets, then don't return for hours! Yikes! Your best bet to find your favorite character is to read various character websites (check links here!), or ask at Guest Relations at a Disney World park or resort (sometimes they can tell you where a character is meeting people that day), or check the Times Guide Map that you pick up when you enter the Disney World parks. Or just wander around and constantly look everywhere you go! Good luck character hunting!!
