South Side Bar Crawl

The big day of fun began with six hours at Sandcastle. Perfect day for a waterpark, though WTAE's "Summerfest" was disappointing. This was due to the fact that we couldn't figure out what they were doing or if they were even there. We got in for $14 less as part of Baldwin Community Days because some girl in line had extra passes! Very fun time, especially on the shooter slides where I screamed and Bonnie lost her swimsuit.

There was an unfortunate incident where a bandaid was stuck to Amy's innertube so she removed it using two rocks. The man in front of us was alarmed that something was wrong because of all our screams! It was so funny. A baby (aka very young guy) came up to Bon and said that his friend thinks she's hot, but he's a little shy. Bon just said, "Thanks" and walked away! After eating chicken phillies and potato patch fries, we then made our way out of Homestead and headed to Pittsburgh for a bar crawl through the South Side!

It all began with crashing a wedding party, then being told on the street that, "You're not my God!" by a creepy man passing by. We found a cab driver who would transport all five of us in his taxi van. I had some trouble sitting directly behind the driver because his seat hit mine. Literally there was no leg room, not even a piece of paper could have fit in between! It was six thousand degrees in the van and no open windows. As we took the super secret route to the South Side, I asked, "Was that us?" after I heard screeching of tires. Amy reaffirmed that, "Yes, I believe so!"

We were walking to our first location and a black man kept taking our picture with his phone. Strange people outside on the sidewalk were saying hi to us, it was odd.

We finally made it to Cupka's Cafe at 9 o'clock!

Brad met us there soon after, as we watched the Pirates lose (big surprise), listened to Dave Matthew's Band, and reminisced about past years at the beach.

You can see Therese's Miller Light cup that she carried around all night. She stored her cell phone inside of it in her purse!

Therese and Bonnie as we wished Amy had brought her cow bell. It was frequently difficult to get the whole group to follow us to the next bar.

All five of us outside of Cupka's. We laughed about going on a bar crawl because Therese said that her family would go on a crawl of churches, not bars.

Bar #2 was the White Eagle. It was a small place, not real crowded. They had cool lights made out of cans with holes punched in them. The keg of Miller Light was terrible so the bartender gave us the drinks for free. Total savings for the day: $16. I performed my Saturday night ritual of spilling a drink on Therese's legs, haha!

We moved on to Bar #3, the Lava Lounge. There was a cover of $3 so I started to back out the door, when the nice man let us in for free. :) Total savings: $19.

This was in the back of the Lava Lounge which has sort of a bedrock theme. The restroom was tiny and had !saloon doors! I had to warn Christina about going in right away due to another girl who was taking a long time... Haha!

They have a cool hole in the floor area that you go down steps to sit in.

We then had to run out of there to meet everyone else at the next bar...

#4 Margaritaville! Russo and his friend Christine, Graham, and Calla joined up with the crawl here.

It is a cool place but we scared a couple out of their seats when we stood behind them. They moved to the other side of the bar.

Another group picture before we moved on.

#5 Paparazzi. This is an Italian restaurant which smelled like bad Parmesan cheese. We were in and out pretty quickly. I missed it, but there was an incident in the ladies room with toilet paper being stuck to Bonnie's shoe and it involved lots of screaming and hysterical laughter!

Brad with Graham, Christine, and Russo.

Hanging out on the sidewalk while the crew got ready to go.

Next was #6 Tiki Lounge. Awesome place, crowded, we must go back there sometime. We were joined by Chris aka Ben. Bon told him that he looked more like a Ben and he replied, "I don't like Benjamin, but you can call me Benny!" There was a $2 cover but Bonnie told the man that it was her birthday so he gave us a dollar off. Total savings: $20.

We explored the downstairs but it felt like we had walked into a private party. We stopped off in a small alcove for Bonnie to pretend she was on Blue's Clues!

We ran next door to #7 Smokin' Joe's. We caused a bit of a stir in there and Bonnie and Therese got hit on while the rest of us used the restroom.

The nice rent-a-cop took our picture outside.

#8 Inn'Termission Lounge. We didn't really explore this one, we stayed near the door.

Unfortunately we lost part of the group at this point because Calla and Graham decided to go to Shadyside. Apparently they couldn't keep up or else they thought they were too good for us... Calla was irritated with us as it was because of our fun game to see how much money we could save.

Scary place! #9 was the Blue Note Cafe. It was all old people and we definitely stood out. Christina went to the ladies room and I asked if she poured out some of her beer because it was half empty!

They had a band up on a raised platform which was playing pseudo-country music at a highly damaging volume.

#10 Mario's! Bonnie saw her friend Staley from Mercyhurst. Therese kept insisting that Bonnie should not go to Indianapolis and should go to the beach with us instead!

Some random guys jumped into the picture. Next we walked down the street and I noticed Bonnie's fun game of, "Let's see how many people can I literally run into in the street." I believe her final total was 32!

We made it to #11 Jack's at around 1am. We didn't spend much time there, we explored both rooms and I talked to an attractive guy at the bar. We left there to go to Jimmy D's, but they wouldn't let us in because it was too late. We tried to go back to Mario's and got the same response. Bonnie told some 'homeless' people begging in the street to get a job.

We then ended our night at Tom's Diner for some great fries, hot turkey, cheese sticks, and salad. Chris was throwing things and I tried to give him a stern warning to stop it. All it got me was ice cubes down my shirt!

Overall we had such a blast. Special thanks to everyone who put up with our fast pace and stayed with us the whole night. Thumbs down to the deserters. We will definitely do this again sometime, possibly in August or September!
