POUSSETTE

POUSSETTE IN REEL AND JIG TIME
(see diagram - start through bar 6)
A formation which is a method of progression.
Hands are joined with partner at shoulder width and height, elbows down.
Pas de basque step used thoughout.
Man begins on left foot, woman begins on right foot.

FOR TWO COUPLES:
Both couples are side by side in the middle of the set to begin the figure.
Eight pas de basque setting steps in eight bars of music.

1 AWAY FROM THE CENTER:
Both couples dance one step away from the center
1st couple toward the men’s side
2nd couple toward the women’s side

2 QUARTER TURN:
All dance a quarter turn, the men pulling with the right hand to finish on the sideline,
men facing down, women facing up

3 UP OR DOWN:
All progress one step,
1st couple moving down the dance
2nd couple up the dance

4 QUARTER TURN:
All dance a quarter turn, men pulling with the right hand to finish facing own sides

5 INTO THE CENTER:
All dance one step into the center

6 HALF WAY ROUND:
All dance a half turn, men pulling with the right hand

7-8 FALL BACK, FALL BACK:
All dance backwards to own side line in two steps, having changed places.

Notes: all are pulling back right shoulders thoughout; the couples are moving in a counterclockwise direction. The path covered is basically in the form of a square.
