It was here at Mycenae that the famous German archaeologist Schliemann unearthed a most fabulous treasure within an untouched grave circle within the walls of the acropolis.  The gold "Mask of Agamemnon" was found here, and Schliemann was convinced that he had, indeed, found the city from which the Trojan war was launched.  That may be true, but scientists have since dated the findings of the grave circle and discovered that it is several hundred years older than the time of the Trojan war.  Whatever the historical details, this is a very ancient site, dating farther back than 1500 BC.  I found it mystical and silent.
