Bergkirchweih 1999. Traditionally, a "Kirchweih" is a religious festival to celebrate the completion of a church. However, some of the locals have stated that the Bergkirschweih in Erlagen may have had a different reason for beginning. Many cities in Franken still keep the tradition of celebrating the date the church was completed. Although, over the years these celebrations have become more commercialized.
