About John Q. Adams, Sr.
John Q. Adams, Sr. founded three companies, and re-founded one, over the course of his 40-year career in the pharmaceutical industry. In 1969, he purchased Baylor Laboratories and moved it to Hurst, Texas where it operated until he sold it in 1980 to Norwich Eaton Pharmaceutical. Following his tenure there, in 1982 he founded Allerderm, Inc., which was purchased by Virbac, Inc. in 1985. That same year Mr. Adams founded Adams Laboratories, Inc. and sold the company to Medeva PLC, of London, England in 1992. Mr. Adams was appointed to the Board of Directors of Medeva PLC in January 1992 and served as an Executive Director, and held various offices with Medeva until his retirement in September of 1995. Two years later he repurchased certain assets from Medeva that now form a part of Adams Laboratories, Inc.

In 1996, the museum and research center of the American Academy of Otolaryngology (AAO) were named in honor of John Q. Adams in recognition of his outstanding and longtime support of the Foundation and its educational goals. Currently, Mr. Adams serves on the Advisory Council of The University of Texas Pharmaceutical Foundation and the board of directors of Dermaco, an Atlanta-based dermatology start-up. In January 1998, Mr. Adams opened Rough Creek Lodge. He also maintains his ranching interest and is President of J. Q. Enterprises, Inc., a holding company for his interests.
