About Midland
Richard V. Case, Ph.D., founded The Midland Certified Reagent Company in 1978. Prior to founding the company, generally known in the biotechnology industry and by its many customers as "MIDLAND," Case spent several years as an industrial postdoctoral fellow at P-L Biochemicals (now Amersham/Pharmacia Biotech) and a faculty member in the biochemistry department at The Medical College of Wisconsin. He obtained his Ph. D. in biochemistry from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His dissertation was on the structure and function of a transfer RNA. Case's bachelors degree in biochemistry is from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin. His present interests lie in the chemistry, biology and enzymology of nucleic acids, in mass spectrometry, and in genomics and biological regulation. Dr. Case enjoys the opportunity to meet and speak with scientists of all disciplines and likes to explore innovative solutions to research problems.

MIDLAND specializes in the modifications of both DNA and RNA oligonucleotides. MIDLAND has been a leading manufacturer of synthetic oligonucleotides for nearly 20 years and was the first company to offer anion-exchange HPLC as a routine purification method, and the first to use MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry as a routine quality control tool. Today, the state-of-the-art--Midland-designed, built, and programmed--96 column DNA synthesizers, make oligonucleotides of the highest quality and purity available in the world.
