crinoline,
petticoat, hoop skirt, ball gown, tutu, civil war gown
Janet Gaynor, silver screen star of the 1930's, wears
an Antebellum gown that is supported by a metal hoop skirt
of starched buckram. Her gown
consists of over 50 yards of ruffled lace fabric, heavily corn
starched and sewn into tiers; additional roses are placed for added
effect. With
the advantages of modern day materials, this look can be accomplished
with a lightweight plastic hoop crinoline and a top layer circumference of at least 284 inches.
