The following is a description of the recent flood and fire damage at the Bruiser claims. All descriptions, pictures and captions courtesy of Bob Boor.
George Volker, Roger Timm and I went over to the Bruiser Claims on Friday, 29 August 2003. Two devastating floods ran through the area within a week or so apart. Look at the pictures of Little Bruiser that Bob took on March 9, 2002 and then look at these pictures. The entire length of the canyon looks like this now. The whole canyon widened and buried under 3-6 feet of rock and gravel. We can not even drive to where our claim starts. All equipment will have to be carried in under difficult walking conditions. The fire burned most of the hills above the claim and when it rained, all the rocks and soil washed right down onto our claim.
![]() In this picture, the road is totally gone. We did drive to the end of this photo but that is as far as anyone can go. In fact, most of the road is gone except short sections that were high up on the canyon wall. |
![]() This drop off was not there after the first flood and George went down into the wash last week without any problem. However, the second flood created this drop off and unbeknown to George, he drove right off it and almost turned over his truck. He was very lucky. |
We also stopped by the Big Bruiser Claim. The wash is also full of boulders and gravel. It also cut off the turn-off road which leads to the area where the old fire place and concrete pad is. We'll have to do a lot of work moving rocks in order to access that area again. These two photos were taken just as we entered the Big Bruiser claim. The fire came right up to the access road. In fact, I believe the road helped to stop the fire.
