It was a beautiful Mother's Day in Greaterville. Twenty members and three guests joined me and Bootstrap Bill, my assistant Bill Eisley, at Placer Pond. It got a little warm in the afternoon, but that didn't stop the fun loving prospectors from doing their thing! Thanks for spending the day with us.
I tried something different this month with the coin hunt. I put 3 coins each in two different areas and hung marker tape within 50 ft of the hidden coins, but I also put marker tape where there were no coins as decoys (10 or so). I guess it was just a little hard, because only one coin was found. I hid them so good that I couldn't even find them. Congratulations to Brad Guinyou who found the one coin. Good Job!
There were a few members that did some Dry Washing with little success, (Lady Luck was shining somewhere else today). Also one member ran a recirculation unit with about the same results. There were a lot of interesting things pulled out of the ground metal detecting. A wheat penny, a mercury dime, the door off a pot belly stove, and a 45/60 shell casing that Bob Melzer and I found. I've heard that some of the old-timers used to put their gold in shell casings and bend them over. This one is bent over - I wonder??!?!
Well another successful outing in the books (lots of fun and no one got hurt). I look forward to seeing all of you at an outing soon.
Until next time,
Lou & my sidekick, Bootstrap Bill
(Thanks to Tana Scott for providing the pictures and captions of the outing with additional photos from Lou Bolino.)
