The DGD May outing was an overnight camp out to the "Little Bruiser" claim in the Santa Catalina Mts. south of Oracle, Arizona. Several members headed to the Peppersauce campgrounds on Thursday and got a head start on the search for that "yellow stuff." Most of the other members who camped out arrived at various times on Friday. The entire campground was filled by Friday night due to two large groups of scouts. Luckily they went home on Sat. morning and freed up some campsites for the members who arrived on Sat. morning. The temperature was relatively mild but it began to get quite warm on Sunday.
Those members who only planned to spend the day prospecting met at the Circle K in Oracle at 7:00 a.m. and caravaned to the claim. Twenty four members were in attendance. Before any prospecting could be done, the road needed a lot of repair work. Everyone pitched in and lots of heavy work was put into the road. A bypass section was needed to be built around a section of the road that was slumping into the wash. Thanks to the team work by everyone, the road is now good enough to access the entire length of the claim.
Just about everyone was finding gold in various quantities and sizes. Lots of flakes and fine gold were seen in most gold pans. Mike Rebholz and Bud Little did real well, Jerry Thomas had some nice gold, Gary Grant always finds gold, and Dave Martin, Wayne Malhis, Jerry and Elsa Ray were working hard to get their share. All in all, it looked like a good productive outing.
