Old Mother Nature sure must like our club because we had another perfect weather day for our February outing. Forty-two members and 3 guests attended this outing to visit our newest claim, "Stephens's Shadow". This claim has plenty of room for all and virtually everyone had their own wash to prospect in. The most prominent equipment in use was the dry washer and metal detector. A few members had recirculating sluices.
There are two mines in the hills to the east of the claim and many members went exploring in that direction. Before the outing began, Bud Little reported that ore samples were found with a metal detector and the assay reported them to be 50% copper with 30 oz. silver per ton and some gold. Those who traveled to the mines were finding large and small chunks of this ore in the surrounding hills and washes. The ore samples are laced with blue and green copper oxides along with white quartz and the black silver ore. They make beautiful display specimens. All those who were finding these specimens were giddy as little kids. I haven't heard how much gold was found but there was some fines and small pieces coming out of the washes.
