GOD'S WORD/BIBLE/SCRIPTURES
By Dennis Schmidt 9/2007
RETURN TO THE: BIBLE PAPERS HOME PAGE
This paper discusses the Word of God as it is presented in written form called
the Bible or Holy Scriptures. The paper shows the other ways God reveal Himself
including ministries (Pastor, Prophet, Teacher, etc), church revelation -
tongues and through Jesus the Christ. Paul's epistles in the New Testament, are referred to as scriptures as compared with
the Old Testament Bible. All scriptures are from the Kings James' version
Bible.
INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:
THEME: GOD'S WORD WILL COMPLETE ITS TASK:
This paper discussed a number of ways God reveals Himself to His people. God
will show Himself to anyone that is diligently seeking Him.
Hebrews 11:6 "But without
faith <it is> impossible to please <him>: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and <that> he is a rewarder of them that
diligently seek him."
Deuteronomy 17:19
"And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of
his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all
the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:" This is
the goal of the Christian.
Isaiah 55:11 "So shall my
word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it
shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I
please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
The Bible, scriptures, are God's words.
Joel 2:28 "And it shall
come to pass afterward, <that> I will pour out my spirit upon all
flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old
men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:" This
only started on Pentecost Acts 2:16-18.
John 20:30-31 "And many
other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are
not written in this book: {31} But these are written, that ye might
believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that
believing ye might have life through his name." Not every event of
Jesus is in the Bible.
2
Timothy 3:16
"All scripture <is> given by inspiration of God, and <is>
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness:" The purpose of God's word is growth.
PURPOSE: List
of but few of the reasons for the word.
A) GOD'S WORD STARTS CHRISTIANS IN NEW LIFE:
Jeremiah 15:16
"Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto
me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name,
O LORD God of hosts."
Romans 10:8 "But what saith
it? The word is nigh thee, <even> in thy mouth, and in thy
heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;" The word
is closer than one expects.
2 Timothy 3:15 "And that from
a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee
wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."
1 Peter 1:23
"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by
the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." The word of God brings people to
the new life.
1 John 5:13 "These
things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that
ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name
of the Son of God."
B) GOD'S WORD IS TO TEACH:
Joshua 1:8 "This book of
the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate
therein day and night, that thou mayest
observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt
make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."
Hebrews 5:12 "For when for
the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again
which <be> the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become
such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat."
1 Peter 2:2 "As newborn
babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye
may grow thereby:" The word is both milk and meat.
C) GOD'S WORD CLEANS & PURIFIES:
Psalms 119:11 "Thy word
have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper
than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is
a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
KEY VERSE:
John 1:1 "In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God." Jesus is God & the Word of God.
2 Timothy 3:16 "All scripture
<is> given by inspiration of God, and <is> profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness:"
WHO: God
mainly by Bible authors Moses, David, Matthew, Luke, John, and Paul
TO WHOM:
Elected Christians
WHAT:
A) GOD'S WORD STARTS CHRISTIANS IN NEW LIFE:
C) GOD'S WORD CLEANS & PURIFIES:
Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper
than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is
a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
WHY: We can not force God to reveal Himself to us.
He is God and we are His created people. He can reveal Himself to some people
and not others as He chooses.
Matthew 13:11-13 "He
answered and said unto them, Because it is given
unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it
is not given. {12} For whosoever hath, to him
shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from
him shall be taken away even that he hath. {13} Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not;
and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand."
Romans 9:18-21 "Therefore
hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. {19} Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his
will? {20} Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest
against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it,
Why hast thou made me thus? {21} Hath
not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel
unto honour, and another unto dishonour?"
WAY: The Bible is the revelation of God and
how He inter-relates with mankind. Jesus (God) is the focal point of all scriptures
& life.
Psalms 40:7 "Then said I,
Lo, I come: in the volume of the book <it is> written of me,"
Fulfilled in Hebrews 10:7 the next verse.
Hebrews 10:7 "Then said
I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do
thy will, O God."From Psalms
40:7 above
Luke 24:27 "And beginning
at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the
scriptures the things concerning himself." The scriptures were written
to tell about Jesus.
John 1:1 "In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God." Jesus is God & the Word of God.
John 5:39
"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal
life: and they are they which testify of me."Jesus
revealed
John 21:25
"And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if
they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself
could not contain the books that should be written. Amen." God's word
is enough for salvation, growth, etc.
Acts 10:43
"To him give all the prophets witness,
that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of
sins."
Acts 13:29
"And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took
<him> down from the tree, and laid <him> in a sepulchre."
1 John 1:1 "That which
was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our
eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of
life;" Jesus as God
WHEREAS:
A) WORD IS WRITTEN IN THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOK:
Jeremiah 30:1-2 "The
word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, {2} Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel,
saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book."
B) WORD IS WRITTEN IN THE NEW TESTAMENT BOOK:
2 Peter 3:15-16 "And
account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as
our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath
written unto you; {16} As also in all his epistles, speaking
in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which
they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other
scriptures, unto their own destruction." Paul's New Testament epistles
are scriptures.
C) JESUS SAID THE SCRIPTURES ARE THE WORDS OF GOD:
Matthew 5:17
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the
prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."
Matthew 26:54 "But how
then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?"
WHERE:
On earth
WHEN: All times
WHILE: Prophets and other ministries (Teacher,
Apostle, Evangelist and Pastor) are spokesman for
another, for God. They were messengers of the Lord & Seer (to see) are Prophets who delivered God's word.
Exodus 7:1-2 "And the LORD
said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy
brother shall be thy prophet. {2} Thou shalt speak all that I command thee:
and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the
children of Israel
out of his land."
Numbers 11:29
"And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my
sake? would God that all the LORD'S people
were prophets, <and> that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!"
1 Samuel 9:9 "(Beforetime in
Israel, when a
man went to inquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and
let us go to the seer: for <he that is> now <called> a Prophet
was beforetime called a Seer.)"
Jeremiah 1:7 "But the LORD
said unto me, Say not, I <am> a child: for thou shalt go to all that I
shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak."
God guides the prophet.
1 Corinthians 12:28 "And God
hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets,
thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps,
governments, diversities of tongues." Prophet is second only to apostle in
the church.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 "For
this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the
word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the
word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which
effectually worketh also in you that believe."
The apostles wrote & spoke the word of God about Jesus.
2 Peter 1:20-21 "Knowing
this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of
any private interpretation. {21}For the prophecy came not in old time by
the will of man: but holy men of God spake
<as they were> moved by the Holy Ghost." Holy Ghost supplied
words.
WANT: God has the prophets give the future
message before it occurs.
Isaiah 41:21-22 "Let
them bring <them> forth, and show us what shall happen: let
them show the former things, what they <be>, that we may
consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us
things for to come. {23} Show the things that are to come hereafter,
that we may know that ye <are> gods: yea, do good, or do evil,
that we may be dismayed, and behold <it> together."
Isaiah 42:9 "Behold, the former
things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they
spring forth I tell you of them."
Amos 3:7-8 "Surely
the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth
his secret unto his servants the prophets. {8} The
lion hath roared, who will not fear? the
Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?"This
proves God's foreknowledge and He predestination it.

all this law, which I set before you this day?"
Psalms 147:19 "He showeth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his
judgments unto Israel.
{20} He hath not dealt so with any nation: and <as for his>
judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye
the LORD." God blessed all nations through Jews people.

faith <it is> impossible to please <him>: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and <that> he is a rewarder of them that
diligently seek him."
2 Timothy 3:16
"All scripture <is> given by inspiration of God, and <is>
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness:" The purpose of God's word is growth.
