RETURN TO THE: BIBLE PAPERS HOME PAGE
This paper discusses how to improve relationships we have with our wives,
family members, and friends. Some
notes are from the book "If Only He Knew" to improve husband &
wife relationships by Gary Smalley.
All scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.
INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:
THEME:
A man's time, effort, and resources go into what is most important
to him.
Matthew 6:21
"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
His life, family, business, hobbies are most important to him. Same as Luke 12:34.
If the wife finds she is not the most important things to her husband, she
feels rejected. Marriage problems
will occur.
Ephesians 5:28-29 "So
ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
{29} For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth
and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church" Man puts
his life, wants & desires 1st. If man finds his body rejecting him, he is
disappointed and wants it corrected. The same is true with his wife finding her
husband rejecting her. She wants the relationship corrected.
PURPOSE:
Ephesians 5:25
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the
church, & gave himself for it" Husband compared to
Jesus.
Ephesians 5:33 "Nevertheless
let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and
the wife <see> that she reverence <her> husband."
Husband's love to wife compared to self.
Colossians 3:19 "Husbands, love <your> wives, and be
not bitter against them." Husbands are to love their wife with
command to be not cruel. If a
problem, he has Biblical obligation to find out what is cause.

dwell with <them> according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel,
and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered."Husband's to
honor wife: place high value.
KEY VERSE: Love is
the greatest of faith, hope, and charity or love.
1 Corinthians 13:1-13
"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity,
I am become <as> sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. {2} And though I have <the gift of> prophecy, and
understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so
that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
{3} And though I bestow all my goods to feed <the
poor>, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. {4} Charity suffereth long, <and> is kind;
charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
{5} Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh
not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh
no evil; {6} Rejoiceth not in iniquity,
but rejoiceth in the truth; {7} Beareth all things, believeth all things,
hopeth all things, endureth
all things. {8} Charity never faileth: but
whether <there be> prophecies, they shall fail; whether <there be>
tongues, they shall cease; whether <there be> knowledge, it shall vanish
away. {9} For we know in part, and we prophesy in
part. {10} But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part
shall be done away. {11} When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a
child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. {12} For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to
face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. {13} And now abideth faith, hope,
charity, these three; but the greatest of these <is>
charity." Charity=love in action.
Galatians 5:14
"For all the law is fulfilled in one word, <even> in this; Thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some
would even dare to die. {8} But God commendeth

"Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love <is> the fulfilling
of the law." Love shows only good.
1 Corinthians 13:1-13
"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity,

understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so

no evil; {6} Rejoiceth not in iniquity,
but rejoiceth in the truth; {7} Beareth all things, believeth all things,
hopeth all things, endureth
all things. {8} Charity never faileth: but

RESPONSIBILITIES TO HIS WIFE: Love, protect, serve & rule.

patience, humbleness, etc (Colossians 3:12-14); tender, gentle &

IV) SERVANT:
Man is to serve and put others before himself.
The Christian man is a servant to his wife, family, and friends as Christ
example of service. God rewards headship to the servant.
Mark 9:35 "And he sat down,
and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first,
<the same> shall be last of all, and servant of all."First=leader.
First must serve like Jesus.
Luke 17:7-10 "But which of
you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him
by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
{8} And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup,
and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken;
and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? {9} Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were
commanded him? I trow not.
{10} So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all
those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable
servants: we have done that which was our duty to do." Do all
we can yet we still will not improve ourselves.

shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let

ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for
many." Leaders serve

wife and children about God. He is also the intercessor for his friends between
God and them.

shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy
nation. These <are> the words which thou shalt speak unto the children
of Israel."
All Israel, not just the priestly tribe.

went and feasted <in their> houses, every one his day; and sent and called
for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. {5} And it was so, when
the days of <their> feasting were gone about, that Job sent and
sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt
offerings <according> to the number of them all: for Job said,
It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.
Thus did Job continually." Man is to be the priest between God and
his family.
1 Peter 2:5 "Ye also,
as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an
holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God
by Jesus Christ." Priest sacrificed, so should man

made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth."

VI) SUBMITTED TO EACH
OTHER: A Christian relationship to wife & others.
Submission is to yield oneself to the control of another. The man is to be
obedient to God's command and man's commands (each other, religious leaders,
government leaders & work masters).
See my paper: "Submision/Subjection" for more information on this subject.

submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth
with <us>, and laboureth." Such =
saints

ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all <of
you> be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth
grace to the humble."

evil all the days of her life. {13} She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh
willingly with her hands. {14} She is like the merchants' ships; she
bringeth her food from afar. {15} She riseth also while it is yet
night, and giveth meat to her household,
and a portion to her maidens. {16} She
considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she
planteth a vineyard. {17} She
girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. {18} She perceiveth
that her merchandise <is> good: her candle goeth

looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. {28} Her children arise up, and call her blessed;
her husband <also>, and he praiseth
her. {29} Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest
them all. {30} Favour <is> deceitful,
