JUST WHO IS GOD?
By Dennis Schmidt 2/2007
RETURN TO THE: BIBLE PAPERS HOME PAGE
This paper discusses the Triunity of the Godhead: Father, Son (Jesus) and
Holy Spirit. All scriptures are
from the King James' Version Bible except where noted.
INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:
THEME: The God
of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob says his name from all
eternity is Jesus. He has showed himself as the angel of the Lord in the Old
Testament and as the man Jesus in the New Testament.
John 1:1 "In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God." Jesus always has been: past to
future as He is the one God.
John 1:14
"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)
full of grace and truth." Jesus likewise has always been and then tells us
what he has done. Jesus is also called I AM.
Colossians 3:17 "And whatsoever
ye do in word or deed, <do> all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Doing anything for
Jesus is doing it for the Father & God.
Hebrews 1:2-3 "Hath in
these last days spoken unto us by <his> Son, whom he hath
appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; {3}
Who being the brightness of <his> glory, and the express image of his
person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had
by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on
high;" Jesus is the express image and "exact representation of
the being (Hebrews 1:3 NIV)"
of the Triunity God. There are many names (titles) for God: I AM, Jehovah, Elohim & Lord. But, the only name we know God by is
Jesus.
PURPOSE:
Seeing Jesus is seeing all of Godhead. No, Jesus is not the Father or Holy
Spirit, but Jesus is God. You can not
divide God, saying there are three persons. This is not found in the scriptures. You can not compare God to a leaf or
three states of water. God is one. To
see Jesus is to see all of the Godhead bodily. If a person could see the Father or
Spirit, he would see Jesus also. God is omni-present: in all places at the
same time.
John 14:8-9 "Philip
saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. {9} Jesus saith unto him, Have I
been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?
he that hath seen me hath seen the Father;
and how sayest thou <then>, Show us the
Father?" Jesus says you see me you see the Father or Triunity God.
John 17:22
"And the glory which thou gavest me I have given
them; that they may be one, even as we are one:" So let us say what
the Bible says. Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit are one. The fullness of
Jesus included the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the rod out of Jesse
and Branch who has all seven spirits of the Holy Spirit shown in Is 11:1-2
& Rev 1:4.
Isaiah 11:1-2 "And there
shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of
his roots: {2} And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit
of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;" See
also Revelation 1:4.
Isaiah 9:6-7 "For unto us a
child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of
Peace. {7} Of the increase of <his>
government and peace <there shall be> no end, upon the throne of David,
and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with
justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will
perform this." Jesus, Father, Spirit
KEY VERSE:
Romans 1:20
"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are
clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,
<even> his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without
excuse:" God has allowed us to understand his Godhead by His word the
Bible.
John 8:58
"Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am." Jesus
is the I am eternally present God.
John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto
him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me."
Revelation 1:18
"I <am> he that liveth, and was
dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of
hell and of death." Jesus controls the keys of who dies & goes to
hell.
WHO: God
mainly by Bible authors Moses, Isaiah, Luke, John, and Paul
TO WHOM:
Elected Christians
WHAT: Jesus is the revealed one God of the Bible to be
understood by mankind as God.
John 14:8-9 "Philip
saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. {9} Jesus saith unto him, Have I
been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?
he that hath seen me hath seen the Father;
and how sayest thou <then>, Show us the
Father?" Jesus says you see me you see the Father or Triunity God.
John 17:22
"And the glory which thou gavest me I have given
them; that they may be one, even as we are one:" So let us say what
the Bible says. Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit are one. The fullness of
Jesus included the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the rod out of Jesse
and Branch who has all seven spirits of the Holy Spirit shown in Is 11:1-2
& Rev 1:4.
Romans 1:20
"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are
clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,
<even> his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:" God has allowed us to understand his Godhead
by His word the Bible.
WHY:
The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob says his name
from all eternity is Jesus. He has showed himself as the angel of the Lord in
the Old Testament and as the man Jesus in the New Testament. God says in Hebrews
1:2-3:
Hebrews 1:2-3 "Hath in
these last days spoken unto us by <his> Son, whom he hath
appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; {3}
But, the only name we know God by is
Jesus.
Colossians 3:17 "And whatsoever
ye do in word or deed, <do> all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Doing anything for
Jesus is doing it for the Father & God.
WAY: God
says us and our and then one. What is the answer? The Hebrew word for one is Achad which means united one. This starts to clear up how
God is both us and our and only one. He is a Triunity God.
Genesis 1:26
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our
likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the
fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O
Israel: The LORD our God <is> one LORD:"
WHEREAS: I am going to
show that the Angel of the Lord, which man has seen, is God and Jesus.
Exodus 3:2 "And the
angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a
bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush
burned with fire, and the bush <was> not consumed. {3} And Moses
said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why
the bush is not burnt. {4} And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to
see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said,
Moses, Moses. And he said, Here <am> I.
{5} And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for
the place whereon thou standest <is> holy
ground. {6} Moreover he said, I <am> the God of thy father,
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God."
Jesus confirmed that God spoke from the bush. In Exodus 3:2
above which says the angle of the Lord was in the bush. The angel of the Lord
is God.
Mark 12:26
"And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book
of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him,
saying, I <am> the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob?"
Exodus 13:21
"And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to
lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them
light; to go by day and night:"
Exodus 14:19 "And the
angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went
behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face,
and stood behind them:"
The Lord and the angel of God were in the pillar. They are the same.
Joshua 5:13-15 "And it came
to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked,
and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in
his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him,
<Art> thou for us, or for our adversaries? {14} And
he said, Nay; but <as> captain of the host of the LORD am I now
come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship,
and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his
servant? {15} And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose
thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest <is> holy. And Joshua did so."
Joshua worshipped the angel. The shoe/holy ground incident is similar to what
Moses had experienced in Exodus 3:5 above
at the tree that was not consumed. Joshua saw God and did not die. Angel's
wouldn't allow worship.
WHERE:
God is everywhere at the same time or omnipresent in the universe, hell, heaven,
and earth.
WHEN: God always existed
and will exist forever.
Genesis 1:1 "In the
beginning God created the heaven and the earth." The Bible does not
try to explain where God came from, but states that He always has been &
then tells us what he has done.
WHILE: What is the
name of the Father? Jesus
Exodus 23:20-21 "Behold, I
send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into
the place which I have prepared. {21} Beware of him, and obey his
voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your
transgressions: for my name <is> in him." Only God can
pardon transgressions. God's name (Jesus) is in him.
John 17:11
(New International version Bible) "I will remain in the world no longer,
but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect
them by the power of your name - The name you gave me - so that they
may be one as we are one."
WANT: God shows Himself in both the Old and New Testaments.
Isaiah 63:8-10 "For he
said, Surely they <are> my people,
children <that> will not lie: so he was their Saviour.
{9} In all their affliction he was afflicted,
and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he
redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old. {10}
But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit:
therefore he was turned to be their enemy, <and> he fought against
them." The Father is calling them his children. Jesus is the angel who
saved and redeemed them. The Holy Spirit is vexed by them.
Isaiah 48:16 "Come ye near
unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning;
from the time that it was, there <am> I: and now the Lord GOD,
and his Spirit, hath sent me." Jesus is speaking. The Father
and the Holy Spirit have sent Jesus. Presented was the united one God in his
three manifestations. How do we
describe the one God? Below, is shown a further insight into the Godhead.
Colossians 1:19
"For it pleased <the Father> that in him should all fulness dwell;" What fulness
is Paul speaking of? All Godhead.
Colossians 2:9 "For in
him dwelleth all the fulness
of the Godhead bodily." The entire Godhead of
Father, Son & Holy Spirit.

(NOT TRINITY). THE UNDIVIDED GODHEAD-NOT 3 GODS:
X) SUMMARY:
Romans 1:20 "For the invisible
things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being
understood by the things that are made, <even> his eternal power
and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:" God has allowed us to
understand his Godhead.
I) GOD IS:
Genesis 1:1 "In the
beginning God created the heaven and the earth." The Bible does not
try to explain where God came from, but states that He always has been &
then tells us what he has done.
Exodus 3:13-14 "And Moses
said unto God, Behold, <when> I come unto the children of Israel, and
shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall
say to me, What <is> his name? what shall I say
unto them? {14} And God said unto Moses, I
AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel,
I AM hath sent me unto you." God says my name is I AM which means
eternally present: past, now, and the future.
II) JESUS IS:
John 1:1 "In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God." Jesus always has been: past to
future.
John 1:14 "And the Word
was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and
truth." Jesus likewise has always been and then tells us what he has done.
Jesus is also called I AM.
John 8:58
"Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am." Jesus
is the I am eternally present God.
John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto
him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me."
Revelation 1:18 "I
<am> he that liveth, and was dead; and,
behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of
death." Jesus controls the keys of who dies & goes to hell.
III) HOLY SPIRIT IS:
See my paper: "Holy Spirit
Baptism" for more
information on this subject.
Hebrews 9:14 "How much more
shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered
himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the
living God?"
Acts 5:3-4 "But Peter said,
Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie
to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back <part> of the price of the land?
{4} Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and
after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why
hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou
hast not lied unto men, but unto God." Holy Spirit is eternally
present: past to future.
IV) GODS' PLURALITY OR
SINGLENESS:
Genesis 1:26 "And God said,
Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them
have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over
the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O
Israel: The LORD our God <is> one LORD:"
God says us and our and then one. What is the answer? The Hebrew word for
one is Achad which means united one. This starts to
clear up how God is both us and our and only one. He is a Triunity God.
V) THE HOLY SPIRIT,
FATHER, AND JESUS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT:
A) HOLY SPIRIT:
Genesis 1:1-2 "In the
beginning God created the heaven and the earth. {2} And
the earth was without form, and void; and darkness <was> upon the face of
the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."
The Holy Spirit took part in the creation.
Exodus 31:1-3 "And the LORD
spake unto Moses, saying, {2} See, I have called by
name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: {3} And I have filled him
with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge,
and in all manner of workmanship," The Holy Spirit was needed to do the
job.
Psalms 51:11 "Cast me not
away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me."
God's Spirit is part of his relationship.
Isaiah 63:10-14 "But they
rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore
he was turned to be their enemy, <and> he fought against them." Sins
against God are also against his Holy Spirit.
B) FATHER:
See my paper: "Gospel in the
Genealogy of Adam" for
more information on this subject.
Deuteronomy 32:6 "Do ye
thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? <is>
not he thy father <that> hath bought thee? hath
he not made thee, and established thee?" The Father created man.
Malachi 2:10 "Have we not
all one father? hath not one God created
us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his
brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?" The entire
Triunity Godhead of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is the creator.
However, only one God exist. They are one and Jesus prayed for us to be one
in John 17:22. He gave us the glory of
God.
C) JESUS:
I am going to show that the Angel of the Lord, which man has seen, is God
and Jesus.
See my paper: "Jesus in the
Old Testament" for
more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Messianic
Prophecies that Jesus Fulfilled" for more information on this subject.
3:2 above says the angle of
the Lord was in the bush. The angel of the Lord is God.
Mark 12:26 "And as touching
the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how
in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I
<am> the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God
of Jacob?"
Exodus 13:21 "And the
LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the
way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day
and night:"
Revelation 19:10 "And I
fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See <thou
do it> not: I am thy fellowservant, and
of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the
testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Angel stopped John.
Further scriptures to prove who the angel of the Lord is, are Genesis
18; Judges 13 and Genesis
22:11-12, 15-17. The last scripture is Gideon's encounter
with God and feared he would die.
Judges 6:22-23 "And when Gideon
perceived that he <was> an angel of the LORD, Gideon said,
Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have
seen an angel of the LORD face to face. {23} And the LORD said unto him,
Peace <be> unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die."
Acts 27:23 "For there stood
by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I
serve," Paul served Jesus (angel of God).
Galatians 4:14 "And my
temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me
as an angel of God, <even> as Christ Jesus." Paul says
the angel of God is Jesus.
VI) GOD'S NAME: JESUS
See my paper: "Jesus Life,
Events, & Identity" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Jesus Two
Comings as King" for
more information on this subject.
Exodus 23:20-21 "Behold, I
send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into
the place which I have prepared. {21} Beware of him, and obey his
voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your
transgressions: for my name <is> in him."
Only God can pardon transgressions. God's name (Jesus) is in him.
John 17:11 (New International
version Bible) "I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still
in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by
the power of your name - The name you gave me - so that they may be
one as we are one."
What is the name of the Father? Jesus
VII) THE UNITED ONE GOD
IS PRESENT IN EVERY GODLY ACTION
See my paper: "Godhead
Relationship" for
more information on this subject.
A) CREATION:
Job 33:4 "The spirit of
God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life."
Holy Spirit & Father are creators.
Colossians 1:16 "For by
him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth,
visible and invisible, whether <they be> thrones, or dominions, or
principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"
Jesus is creator.
B) WITHIN A BORN AGAIN
CHRISTIAN:
See my paper: "What Is a
Born-Again & How to Become One?" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "One-In-Christ"
for more information on
this subject.
John 14:23
"Jesus answered and said unto him, If a
man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we
will come unto him, and make our abode with him."
Acts 1:5 "For John truly
baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not
many days hence." Since the Triunity Godhead can't be separated, the
Godhead is in a Christian.
Acts 1:8 "But ye shall
receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye
shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem,
and in all Judaea, and in Samaria,
and unto the uttermost part of the earth." They were Baptized
with the Holy Spirit on Pentecost when the Spirit came within them in a second
encounter. 50 days earlier, Jesus breathed on them the Holy Spirit and they
were saved/born again since Jesus was now the risen
Lord.
John 20:22 "And when he had
said this, he breathed on <them>, and saith unto them, Receive
ye the Holy Ghost:"
VIII) THE UNITED ONE GOD
PRESENTED IN TWO OLD TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES:
Isaiah 63:8-10 "For he
said, Surely they <are> my people,
children <that> will not lie: so he was their Saviour.
{9} In all their affliction he was afflicted,
and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he
redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old. {10}
But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit:
therefore he was turned to be their enemy, <and> he fought against
them." The Father is calling them his children. Jesus is the angel who
saved and redeemed them. The Holy Spirit is vexed by them.
Isaiah 48:16 "Come ye near
unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning;
from the time that it was, there <am> I: and now the Lord GOD,
and his Spirit, hath sent me."
Jesus is speaking. The Father and the Holy Spirit have sent Jesus. Presented was the united one God in his
three manifestations. How do we describe the one God? Below, is shown a further
insight into the Godhead.
IX) THE TRIUNITY OF GOD
(NOT TRINITY). THE UNDIVIDED GODHEAD-NOT THREE GODS:
See my paper: "Triunity -
Father, Son, & Holy Spirit" for more information on this subject.
Colossians 1:19 "For it pleased
<the Father> that in him should all fulness
dwell;" What fulness is Paul speaking of? All Godhead.
Colossians 2:9 "For in
him dwelleth all the fulness
of the Godhead bodily." The entire Godhead of
Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
Therefore, seeing Jesus is seeing all of God. No, Jesus is not the Father or
Holy Spirit, but Jesus is God. You can not divide God, saying there are three
persons. This is not found in the scriptures. You can not compare God to a leaf
or three states of water. God is one. To see Jesus is to see all of the Godhead
bodily. If a person could see the Father or Spirit, he would see Jesus also.
God is omni-present: in all places at the same time.
John 14:8-9 "Philip
saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. {9} Jesus saith unto him, Have I
been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?
he that hath seen me hath seen the Father;
and how sayest thou <then>, Show us the
Father?" Jesus says you see me you see the Father or Triunity God.
John 17:22 "And the glory
which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may
be one, even as we are one:" So let us say what the Bible says.
Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit are one. The fullness of Jesus included
the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the rod out of Jesse and Branch who
has all seven spirits of the Holy Spirit shown in Is 11:1-2 & Rev
1:4.
Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the
Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a
son, and shall call his name Immanuel." Immanuel means God with us.
The entire Godhead.
Luke 1:31 "And, behold,
thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his
name JESUS." Jesus means savior and healer. Jesus has Holy Ghost seed
from birth Luke 1:35.
X) SUMMARY:
The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob says his name
from all eternity is Jesus. He has showed himself as the angel of the Lord in
the Old Testament and as the man Jesus in the New Testament. God says in Hebrews
1:2-3:
Hebrews 1:2-3 "Hath in
these last days spoken unto us by <his> Son, whom he hath
appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; {3}
But, the only name we know God by is
Jesus.
Colossians 3:17 "And whatsoever
ye do in word or deed, <do> all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Doing anything for
Jesus is doing it for the Father & God.
I pray this paper would remove the three God images that the world sees in
many Christians. God would enlighten you and give you an encounter with who
Jesus really is. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ.
