BODY, SOUL, & SPIRIT

This paper discusses body, soul, and spirit of man. Man alone has a spiritual & moral nature made in the image of God. His spirit was God breathed. Man & animals each have bodies, spirits, and are souls. What distinguishes man from animal is that both can think, but only man can reason. God created man to have fellowship, but animals could not offer that fellowship. Eve was created to give Adam that fellowship, whereas all the animals could not give Adam the fellowship. All scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.

INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:

THEME: Soul = life. The soul did not pre-exist. The person became a living person (soul) after the breath of life came in.

Genesis 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man <of> the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."

PURPOSE: The person’s soul which is the person’s life is worth everything to that individual.

Matthew 16:26 "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"

KEY VERSE: Man is a spirit within a body that makes the person a living soul individual

Isaiah 26:9 "With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments <are> in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness."

Luke 1:46-47 "And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, {47} And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour."

1 Corinthians 6:20 "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God <is> quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and <is> a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

WHO: God written mostly by Bible authors Moses, John, and Paul.

TO WHOM: Elected Christians

WHAT: Soul = life. The soul did not pre-exist. The person became a living person (soul) after the breath of life came in.

The Greek's taught a soul was imprisoned in a body. The Hebrew's teaching is that the person is a soul and it contains a spirit within the body. This paper shows God saved the soul or person.

WHY: The person has a spiritual & moral nature which can reason. The spirit lives in the body which makes him a soul.

Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his <own> image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

WAY: The breath of god gave the person life.

Job 33:4 "The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life."

WHEREAS: A living creature life is equal to the soul of that creature.

Genesis 1:24 "And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so."

Genesis 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man <of> the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."

Genesis 2:19 "And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought <them> unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that <was> the name thereof."

Ecclesiastes 3:21 "Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?"

Ecclesiastes 12:7 "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it."

WHILE: The daughter died and Jesus healed her. Upon her healing, her spirit returned to her.

Luke 8:49 "While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's <house>, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master."

Luke 8:55 "And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat."

I) SOUL: BODY + SPIRIT = SOUL; GOD NOR MAN CAN BE DIVIDED.

II) MAN MADE IN GOD'S IMAGE: HE HAS A SPIRITUAL & MORAL NATURE WHICH CAN REASON. THE SPIRIT LIVES IN THE BODY WHICH MAKES HIM A SOUL.

James 3:8-9 "But the tongue can no man tame; <it is> an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. {9} Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God." WE = PERSONS; SIMILITUDE = IMAGE

III) MAN HAS A BODY OF FLESH (HE IS CREATED FROM DUST OF GROUND)

HE BECAME A LIVING PERSON (SOUL) AFTER THE BREATH OF LIFE CAME IN.

IV) MAN'S SOUL: MAN IS A SOUL BEING WHICH CONTAINS A SPIRIT. THE SOUL IS THE CENTER OF: PERSON, LIFE, EMOTIONAL, DESIRES & APPETITES.

Genesis 46:18 "These <are> the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob, <even> sixteen souls." SOUL = PEOPLE (LIVES)

Deuteronomy 12:20 "When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, whatsoever thy soul lusteth after." PERSON'S DESIRES

1 Kings 11:37 "And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign according to all that thy soul desireth, and shalt be king over Israel." SOUL = EMOTIONAL DESIRES

Psalms 23:3 "He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." SOUL = LIFE

V) SOUL'S VALUE

Matthew 16:26 "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" SOUL = MAN'S LIFE

VI) SPIRIT: GOD IS A SPIRIT. HE IS EVERYWHERE AT ONCE. GOD LIMITS HIS ANGELS WHO ARE SPIRIT BEINGS. ALSO CALLED INNER MAN OR HEART.

VII) MAN'S SPIRIT: WORSHIP GOD IN BODY: PSALMS 95:6 & SPIRIT: JOHN 4:24

1 Corinthians 2:11 "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God." THRU SPIRIT KNOW OF GOD.

1 Corinthians 6:20 "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

THROUGH THE SPIRIT, IN US, WE CAN GLORIFY & WORSHIP GOD IN SPIRIT.

Luke 24:39 "Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have." JESUS HAS FLESH & BONES, BUT NO BLOOD (1 COR 15:50).

X) ANGELS ARE SPIRITS: GOD AT TIMES GIVES THEM BODIES (ANGELS SEEN)

XIII) ANIMAL SPIRIT: BEAST = ANIMAL

Genesis 1:30 "And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein <there is> life, <I have given> every green herb for meat: and it was so." THERE IS LIFE (IN NIV: BREATH OF LIFE).

Psalms 104:30 "Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth." THEY = ANIMALS

Ecclesiastes 3:21 "Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?"

Genesis 46:26 "All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob's sons' wives, all the souls <were> threescore and six;" SOUL'S = PERSONS. THE WHOLE PERSON IS IN THE CONCEPTION. GOD CEASED CREATING ON SEVENTH DAY.

ABORTION IS THEREFORE MURDER AS BABY HAS SPIRIT & IS A SOUL. A PERSON CAN NOT BE DIVIDED. HE IS COMPLETE UNTIL DEATH.

Hebrews 7:7-9 "And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. {8} And here men that die receive tithes; but there he <receiveth them>, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth. {9} And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham." ABRAHAM PAID TITHES TO MELCHISEDEC. LEVI, HIS GRANDSON, WHO NOT YET BORN WAS WITHIN ABRAHAM PAYING THE TITHES.

James 2:26 "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

XX) MAN A TWO/THREE PART PERSON?: SPIRIT + BODY = SOUL (WHOLE PERSON).

Matthew 22:37 "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." HEART = INNER MAN (SPIRIT); SOUL = IF THIS IS EMOTION, DESIRES, FEELINGS, & APPETITES THEN WHAT IS MIND?

WE (SOUL) ARE TO GLORIFY GOD WITH BODY AND SPIRIT (SOUL).

2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man <be> in Christ, <he is> a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." THE MAN, HE, WAS CHANGED, NOT JUST THE SPIRIT.

Ephesians 4:24 "And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." NEW PERSON OR MAN.

Colossians 3:10 "And have put on the new <man>, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:" MAN OR SOUL.

Hebrews 10:39 "But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul."

Hebrews 12:23 "To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect," MEN = SOULS

1 Peter 1:9 "Receiving the end of your faith, <even> the salvation of <your> souls."

Luke 8:55 "And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat." SPIRIT RETURNED UPON HEALING.

Luke 23:46 "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost." JESUS SPIRIT/GHOST LEFT HIM UPON DEATH.

Acts 5:10 "Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying <her> forth, buried <her> by her husband." GHOST = SPIRIT

XXV) THOSE WHO DIE BEFORE HIS COMING: HE LIVE UN-NATURALLY WITHOUT BODY.

2 Corinthians 5:1-4 "For we know that if our earthly house of <this> tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. {2} For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: {3} If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. {4} For we that are in <this> tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life."

1 Corinthians 15:44 "It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body." MAN WILL BE SPIRITUAL (BODY + SPIRIT) NOT SPIRIT, BEING.

1 Corinthians 15:52-53 "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. {53} For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal <must> put on immortality." DEAD, PRIOR TO RAPTURE, GET NEW BODY.

The Greek's taught a soul was imprisoned in a body. The Hebrew's teaching is that the person is a soul and it contains a spirit within the body. This paper shows God saved the soul or person.

The resurrected body will be part of the soul. The body is needed to replace the sinful body of flesh and blood. The resurrected body will be flesh and bone.
