RETURN TO THE: BIBLE PAPERS HOME PAGE
This paper discusses God's plan for people for His purpose, and in
particularly Pharaoh's purpose which was to give God glory. The paper will answer the question of
who hardened Pharaoh's heart. All
scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.
INDUCTIVE
COMMENTS:
THEME: God is the Sovereign ruler of the
universe, to do whatever He will, to whomever He wishes, in any way He wants,
and without any input from man.
Romans 9:15-19 "For he saith to Moses, I
will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will
have compassion on whom I will have compassion. {16} So
then it is not of him that willeth, nor of
him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy. {17} For the
scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I
raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee, and that my name
might be declared throughout all the earth. {18} Therefore hath he mercy on
whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
{19} Thou wilt say then unto me, Why
doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?"
PURPOSE: God is sovereign to save, whomsoever he
wants to save, use any sinner as He wishes, and whomsoever he want to be lost is lost. See Romans 9
Ephesians
1:9-11
"Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according
to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: {10} That in the
dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather
together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and
which are on earth; even in him: {11} In whom also
we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the
purpose of him who worketh all things after the
counsel of his own will:"
KEY VERSE:
Romans 9:20-21 "O man, who art
thou that repliest against God? Shall the
thing formed say to him that formed it, Why
hast thou made me thus? {21} Hath not the potter power over the clay,
of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour,
and another unto dishonour?"

& glorification.
Romans 8:29-30 "For whom he did

of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
{30} Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom
he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them
he also glorified." God does it all without man’s efforts.
Foreknow->Predestinate->To Jesus
image->Called->Justified->Glorified
WHEREAS: Christians should enjoy God’s love
& live their life in praises and thanks
Romans 8:31 "What
shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can
be against us?" God
chooses who to save and no one can succeed against God’s Elect
WHERE: Heaven, earth, and hell for the
unbelievers
WHEN: Before the foundation of the world,
after the creation, and forever

1 Corinthians 1:29 "That no flesh should glory in his presence."
Romans 9:11 "(For <the
children> being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil,
that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of
works, but of him that calleth;)"
Romans 9:17 "For the scripture
saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up,
that I might show my power in thee, and that my name might be
declared throughout all the earth." Pharaoh wanted to do evil. God
predestined his wish for His power.
Ephesians 1:11
"In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated
according to the purpose of him who worketh all
things after the counsel of his own will" God works all things out.
Ephesians 3:11
"According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our
Lord:" God is eternally in control.
2 Timothy 1:9 "Who hath
saved us, and called <us> with an holy calling, not
according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which
was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began," Our salvation was
part of God's plan for our life.
II) NATURAL MAN
SINFULNESS:
Before being re-born we have no power over sin. It is God who selects some people for
glory and others for destruction.
See my paper: "Born with
Sin/Father is the Devil (Prior to Re-birth)" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Original
Sin and Its Results" for
more information on this subject.
Psalms 14:2-3 "The LORD
looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any
that did understand, <and> seek God. {3} They
are all gone aside, they are <all> together become filthy:
<there is> none that doeth good, no, not one."
Corrupted
Ecclesiastes 7:20
"For <there is> not a just man upon earth, that doeth good,
and sinneth not." No one just except Jesus.
Isaiah 53:6 "All we like
sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and
the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." Man is self centered
& does what he wants.
Romans 3:10-18 "As it is
written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
{11} There is none that understandeth, there
is none that seeketh after God. {12} They are all
gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is
none that doeth good, no, not one. {13} Their throat <is> an
open sepulchre; with their tongues they have
used deceit; the poison of asps <is> under their lips: {14} Whose mouth
<is> full of cursing and bitterness: {15} Their feet <are>
swift to shed blood: {16} Destruction and misery <are> in their
ways: {17} And the way of peace have they not known: {18} There is no
fear of God before their eyes." Totally depraved.
III) PUNISHMENT FOR SIN:
All of us should be punished for our sins. God's grace (un-merited flavor) &
love forgives the believer of his sins.
See my paper: "Judgments
of believer and un-believer" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Grace" for more information on this subject.
Ezekiel 18:4 "Behold, all
souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine:
the soul that sinneth, it shall die."
God's punishment is for all sinner's.
Romans 5:12 "Wherefore, as by
one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so
death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" All men sin
& therefore deserve death.
IV) GOD HAS PLANS FOR MEN
& NATIONS:
God closed Israel's
hearts.
See my paper: "Israel in
Jewish People in God’s Plans" for more information on this subject.
Isaiah 6:9-10 "And he said,
Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not;
and see ye indeed, but perceive not. {10} Make the heart of this
people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see
with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with
their heart, and convert, and be healed." God
to the prophet Isaiah to go against Israel.
V) JESUS REJECTS MEN ALSO:
He used parables so they would not understand and believe.
See my paper: "Is Free
Will Biblical?" for
more information on this subject.
Matthew 13:10,
15 "And the disciples came, and said
unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in
parables? {15} For this people's heart is waxed gross, and
<their> ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have
closed; lest at any time they should see with <their> eyes and
hear with <their> ears, and should understand with <their>
heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them."
Luke 8:10
"And he said, Unto you it is
given to know the mysteries of the kingdom
of God: but to others
in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they
might not understand."
John 12:37-40 "But though he
had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
{38} That the saying of Esaias
the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake,
Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath
the arm of the Lord been revealed? {39} Therefore they could not believe,
because that Esaias said again, {40} He hath
blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should
not see with <their> eyes, nor understand with <their> heart,
and be converted, and I should heal them." Also Paul in Acts
28:25-27.
VI) JESUS CRUCIFIXION WAS
BY GOD'S DETERMINATE WILL, BUT THEY DID IT:
The Jewish leadership & Roman's were guilty of murdering Jesus. God did not force them. They were evil & just did their
natural thing.
Acts 2:23
"Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of
God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:"
God predestine it, but they were guilty.
VII) ASSYRIAN'S
DETERMINATE WILL WAS USED BY GOD FOR HIS PURPOSE:
Assyria did what she wanted but God used them for His
own purpose. Later God punished Assyria
for the evil she did. God uses
nations for his purposes.
Isaiah 10:5-6 "O Assyrian,
the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is
mine indignation. {6} I will send him against an
hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him
a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down
like the mire of the streets."
VIII) GOD HARDEN PHARAOH'S
HEART FOR HIS OWN GLORY:
God sent 10 plagues against Egypt. Pharaoh heart was hardened after each
one. Each plagues
was against an Egyptian god to show them that God has the true power. Moses did not go in to evangelize
pharaoh. God did not go against
Pharaoh's will. Pharaoh did exactly what he wanted to do. God guarantee that his signs and wonders
would be shown in Egypt
by harden Pharaoh's heart. God's
glory was shown in that the Egyptians gave their wealth to the Jews when they
left.
Exodus 3:20-21 "And I will
stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt
with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he
will let you go. {21} And I will give this people favour
in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye
go, ye shall not go empty:"
IX) SCRIPTURE EXAMPLES OF
PHARAOH'S HEART HARDEN: Read Romans 9:10-26
Scripture examples of God
hardening Pharaoh Heart:
See others examples: Exodus 7:13-14, 9:12, 10:20,
10:27, & 11:27
Exodus 4:21 "And the LORD said
unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see
that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in
thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let
the people go."
Exodus 7:3 "And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my
signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt."

and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon
all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I <am> the LORD.
And they did so."

LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt,
and he pursued after the children of Israel:
and the children of Israel
went out with an high hand."
Exodus 14:17
"And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of
the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon
his chariots, and upon his horsemen."
Scripture examples of pharaoh
hardening his own heart:
Exodus 8:15 "But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he
hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had
said."
Exodus 8:32
"And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would
he let the people go."
Exodus 9:34
"And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were
ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and
his servants."
Either God or Pharaoh
harden: See also Exodus 7:22, 9:7, & 9:35
Exodus 8:19
"Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This <is> the
finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened
not unto them; as the LORD had said."
X) DOES GOD FORESEE MAN'S
GOODNESS AND REWARD HIM WITH ETERNAL LIFE?:
See my paper: "What Does
God Really Want?" for
more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Questions
& Answers on Law, Faith, & Liberty" for more information on this subject.
These scriptures show man is only evil and can
not do good.
Man is born a sinner and then
will sin as his natural self and his evil will does. How can evil do not good? How can an omniscient God look down the
ages to see some one who will believe except He intervene with changing the
person by His grace?
Psalms 14:1-3 "To
the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable
works, there is none that doeth good {2} The LORD looked down from heaven
upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and
seek God. {3} They are all gone aside, they
are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth
good, no, not one."
Psalms 53:1-3 "To the chief Musician upon Mahalath,
Maschil, A Psalm of David. The
fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt
are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none
that doeth good. {2} God looked down from heaven upon the children of
men, to see if there were any that did understand,
that did seek God. {3} Every
one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there
is none that doeth good, no, not one."
Isaiah 53:6 "All we
like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his
own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."
Isaiah 64:6-8 "But we
are all as an unclean thing, and all
our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;
and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the
wind, have taken us away. {7} And there
is none that calleth upon
thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold
of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of
our iniquities. {8} But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are
the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work
of thy hand."
Romans 3:10-18 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no,
not one: {11} There is none that understandeth,
there is none that seeketh after God.
{12} They are all gone out of the way, they are together
become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no,
not one. {13} Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit;
the poison of asps is under their lips: {14} Whose mouth is
full of cursing and bitterness: {15} Their feet are swift to
shed blood: {16} Destruction and misery are in their ways:
{17} And the way of peace have they not known: {18} There is no fear
of God before their eyes."
The men who can not follow God are doing their natural
evil, self-centered, and fleshly acts which is because of their being born with
sin and are sinners. They can not
do good because the scriptures show they are evil.
John 8:44-47 "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was
a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because
there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a
lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a
liar, and the father of it. {45} And because
I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. {46} Which of you convinceth
me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not
believe me? {47} He that is of God heareth
God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are
not of God."
The order to follow
God is you can hear God's words and believe on Jesus. This applies
to making a choice for good for God or having faith which is
from God to man just as grace is from God to man.
2
Corinthians 4:3-4
"But if our gospel be
hid, it is hid to them that are lost: {4} In whom the god of this
world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light
of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine
unto them."
Scriptures show man's total depravity. Grace is one way from God towards
man. We can only receive the gift
when God send it.
Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace
are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
gift of God: {9} Not of works, lest any man should
boast."
XI) OTHER SCRIPTURES OF
PEOPLE THAT GOD & JESUS HARDEN THEIR HEARTS:
Deuteronomy 2:30 "But Sihon king of Heshbon would not
let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made
his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as <appeareth> this day."
Mark 6:52
"For they considered not <the miracle> of the loaves: for
their heart was hardened." The Jews of Jesus day.
Mark 8:17
"And when Jesus knew <it>, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread?
perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?" Maybe to disciples.
John 12:40
"He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that
they should not see with <their> eyes, nor understand with
<their> heart, and be converted, and I should heal them."
XII) PURPOSE OF GOD HARDENING
PHARAOH'S HEART:
He is sovereign. God harden
Pharaoh's heart to show that is runs the universe. His power & glory through these
judgments show He is God alone.
See my paper: "Some
Saved and Some Lost God's Sovereignty" for more information on this subject.
1 Corinthians 1:29 "That no flesh should glory in his presence."
Exodus 7:1-5 "And the LORD
said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron
thy brother shall be thy prophet. {2} Thou shalt speak all that I command
thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh,
that he send the children of Israel
out of his land. {3} And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and
multiply my signs and my wonders in the land
of Egypt. {4} But Pharaoh
shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring
forth mine armies, <and> my people the children of Israel, out
of the land of Egypt by great judgments. {5} And the Egyptians shall
know that I <am> the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt,
and bring out the children of Israel
from among them."
Romans 9:15-21 "For he
saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I
will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have
compassion. {16} So then <it is> not of
him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth
mercy. {17} For the scripture saith unto
Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I
might show my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout
all the earth. {18} Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will <have
mercy>, and whom he will he hardeneth.
{19} Thou wilt say then unto me, Why
doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? {20} Nay
but, O man, who art thou that repliest against
God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed <it>, Why hast thou made me thus? {21} Hath not
the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto
honour, and another unto dishonour?"
XIII) LET GOD BE GOD:
What God does is right. It is
not morally wrong for God to harden sinner's hearts. Really the sinner does it.
See my paper: "Man's
Greatest Need - Relationship with God" for more information on this subject.
Ezekiel 36:26 "A new
heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you:
and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will
give you an heart of flesh."
XIV) CONCLUSION:
Man because of his sin deserves death, eternal punishment, and separation
from God. It is God who created man
to have fellowship with him. God's
love and grace has allowed some of us to be saved from hell. We do not know who God elected for
eternal life. We are to tell everyone of God's love and mercy. He will save the ones according to His
plan.
See my paper: "True Gospel
for Salvation by the Imputed Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "What is a
Born-Again & How to Become One?" for more information on this subject.
Psalms 95:8 "Harden not
your heart, as in the provocation, <and> as <in> the day
of temptation in the wilderness:"
Hebrews 3:15
"While it is said, To day if ye will
hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation."
2 Corinthians 6:2 "(For he
saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation
have I succoured thee: behold, now <is>
the accepted time; behold, now <is> the day of salvation.)"
HOW TO BE SAVED:
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life."
Romans 3:23-25 "For all
have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; {24} Being justified freely
by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: {25}
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in
his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are
past, through the forbearance of God;"
Romans 3:27-28 "Where is
boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. {28} Therefore we
conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law."
Romans 10:9-10 "That if
thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. {10} For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation."
Romans 10:13
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved."
Man deserves death and punishment, separation from God, for sin. God's love
and grace has saved some and all other's will be lost.
Those that are the saved, will repent (change) of their sins and will call
upon the Lord. They will pray to
Jesus something like this: Father,
I know I am a sinner. I asked for
your forgiveness and help me to repent.
Come in to my life and be my Lord.
Help me to speak to others about your paying for my sins on the
cross. In Jesus name I ask
this. Amen.
If you prayed that pray and trusting in the promises of God's word, the
Bible, you are one of the called, elected, and chosen.
