This paper discusses Mary the mother of Jesus.
The Roman Catholic Church almost worships her. This paper shows her to be just like any
other human, but blessed because she was the mother of the man Jesus. Mary is not the mother of God. God does not have a mother. God through Jesus created Mary. All scriptures are from the King James'
version Bible.
INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:
THEME:
Mary is Jesus’ mother who God chose
to give birth and raise Jesus
Matthew 1:16 "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary,
of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ" Jesus birth by Mary
not Joseph
Luke 1:27 "To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was
Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name <was>
Mary." Both Joseph & Mary are from David tribe. Later Joseph
marries Mary.
PURPOSE: Mary is Jesus mother who God chose to give birth and
raise Jesus. Joseph was Jesus’ earthly
father. Joseph, as father, assumed leadership & authority. He
was first told in a dream to leave. Mary did not have dream (communicate nor
intercede with God).
Matthew 2:20-21 "Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go
into the land of Israel:
for they are dead which sought the young child's life. {21} And
he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel." Jesus
knows His true father, but as a human child humble
Himself to His earthly mother and father.
Luke 2:41-51
"Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. {42} And when he was twelve years old, they
went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. {43} And when they had
fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind
in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not <of it>. {44}
But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they
sought him among <their> kinsfolk and acquaintance. {45} And when
they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
{46} And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple,
sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking
them questions. {47} And all that heard him were astonished at his
understanding and answers. {48} And when they saw him, they were
amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou
thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
{49} And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's
business? {50} And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. {51} And he
went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother
kept all these sayings in her heart." Jesus was about His Father work.
KEY
VERSE:
Matthew 1:16 "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary,
of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ" Jesus birth by Mary not
Joseph
Luke
1:27 "To
a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David;
and the virgin's name <was> Mary." Both Joseph & Mary are
from David tribe. Later Joseph marries Mary.
WHO: God mainly
by Bible authors Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul
TO WHOM:
Elected Christians
WHAT: Mary is Jesus mother who God chose to give birth and
raise Jesus.
Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a
sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and
shall call his name Immanuel." Immanuel means God with us. The virgin
was Mary.
WHY:
God came to earth to be born
as a man and live among sinners teaching God’s truth and dying for man’s
sins. Mary was the mother of that man
Jesus and Joseph was his earthly father.
Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a
sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and
shall call his name Immanuel." Immanuel means God with us. The virgin
was Mary.
Luke 1:48 "For he hath regarded the low estate of his
handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me
blessed" Mary is thankful to God for her great opportunity.
Luke 1:49-56 "For he that is mighty hath done to me great
things; and holy <is> his name. {50} And his mercy
<is> on them that fear him from generation to generation. {51} He
hath showed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the
imagination of their hearts. {52} He hath put down the mighty from
<their> seats, and exalted them of low degree. {53} He hath
filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
{54} He hath holpen his servant Israel, in
remembrance of <his> mercy; {55} As he spake
to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. {56}
And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own
house." Mary's statement shows a strong belief in God.
WAY: God selected the woman to be the earthly
mother and father to raise His son. The
Holy Spirit produced the seed for Mary to become the mother of Jesus.
Luke 1:28-33 "And the angel came in unto her, and said,
Hail, <thou that art> highly favored, the Lord
<is> with thee: blessed <art> thou among women. {29} And
when she saw <him>, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind
what manner of salutation this should be. {30} And the angel said unto
her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. {31}
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son,
and shalt call his name JESUS. {32} He shall be great, and shall be
called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the
throne of his father David: {33} And he shall reign over the house of
Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end." Mary
is granted the honor of giving birth to & raising Jesus who is God's son. Mary
is not the mother of God, only true human Jesus.
Luke 1:34-38 "Then said Mary unto the angel, How
shall this be, seeing I know not a man? {35} And the angel
answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and
the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that
holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. {36}
And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her
old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. {37} For with
God nothing shall be impossible. {38} And Mary said, Behold the
handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel
departed from her." The Holy Spirit is true father of Jesus. God performs
miracles for both of them.
WHEREAS: Joseph, as father, assumed leadership and authority of
the family. He was first told in a dream
to leave. Mary did not have the dream (communicate
nor intercede with God).
Matthew 2:11-13 "And when they were come into the house, they saw
the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him:
and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts;
gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. {12} And being warned of God in a dream that
they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another
way. {13} And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take
the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou
there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy
him" The wise man came to worship Jesus (God) and to offer Him gifts not
Mary.
Matthew 2:20-21 "Saying, Arise, and take the young child and
his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which
sought the young child's life. {21} And he arose, and took the young
child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel."
WHERE:
Israel
WHEN: Jesus birth
WHILE:
Jesus was the firth born
child to the virgin Mary. Mary had other children
Luke 2:5-7 "To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife,
being great with child. {6} And so it was, that, while they were there, the
days were accomplished that she should be delivered. {7} And she brought
forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him
in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn." Firstborn of
several children.
Matthew 13:55-56 "Is
not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his
brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon,
and Judas? {56} And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence
then hath this <man> all these things?" Jesus had brethren=brothers
WANT:
Mary and her other children
believed Jesus to be mad or crazy. They
wanted to take Him home to be safe from the religious people.
Mark 3:21-23 "And when his friends heard <of it>,
they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside
himself. {22} And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath
Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he
out devils. {23} And he called them <unto him>, and said unto them in
parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?" They believe Jesus to be beside
himself or be mad or crazy. In Mark 3:31-35
His mother & family concurred.
Acts 26:24 "And as he thus spake
for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself;
much learning doth make thee mad." Thou art beside thyself = mad
John 7:2-11 "Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.
{3} His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works
that thou doest. {4} For <there is> no man <that> doeth any
thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be
known openly. If thou do these things, show thyself to the world.
{5} For neither did his brethren believe in him. {6} Then Jesus said
unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. {7} The world cannot hate you; but me
it hateth, because I testify of it, that
the works thereof are evil. {8} Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet
unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come. {9} When he had said
these words unto them, he abode <still> in Galilee. {10} But
when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast,
not openly, but as it were in secret. {11} Then the Jews sought him
at the feast, and said, Where is he?" Jesus brothers wanted Him to be
killed by Jews.

TO BE MOTHER OF JESUS & HER HUSBAND, JOSEPH, BECOMES JESUS ADOPTED EARTHLY
FATHER:
See my paper: "God's Plan
and Purpose for the Ages" for more information on this subject.
Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a
sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and
shall call his name Immanuel." Immanuel means God with us. The virgin
was Mary.
Matthew 1:16 "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary,
of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ" Jesus birth was by
Mary not Joseph. Mary is Jesus mother
who God chose to give birth & raise Jesus.
Luke 1:27 "To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was
Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name <was>
Mary." Both Joseph & Mary are from David tribe. Later Joseph
marries Mary.

& BLESSED BY GOD:
See my paper:"Triunity - Father, Son, & Holy Spirit"
for more information on this subject.
Luke 1:28-33 "And the
angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, <thou that art> highly
favored, the Lord <is> with thee: blessed <art> thou among
women. {29} And when she saw
<him>, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner
of salutation this should be. {30} And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. {31} And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring
forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. {32} He shall be
great, and shall be
called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him
the throne of his father David: {33} And
he shall reign over
the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no
end." Mary is granted the honor of giving birth to
& raising Jesus who is God's son. Mary is not the mother of God, only true human Jesus.
III) MARY IS OBEDIENT TO GOD'S MIRACLE VIRGIN BIRTH:
See my paper: "Virgin" for more
information on this subject.
Luke 1:34-38 "Then said
Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know
not a man? {35} And the angel answered and said unto
her, The Holy Ghost
shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that
holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. {36} And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth
month with her, who was called barren. {37} For with God nothing shall be
impossible. {38} And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me
according to thy word. And the angel departed from
her." The Holy Spirit is true father of Jesus. God performs miracles for both
of them.
Luke 1:39-45 "And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with
haste, into a city of Juda; {40} And entered into the house of Zacharias,
and saluted Elisabeth. {41} And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation
of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy
Ghost: {42} And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed <art> thou among women, and blessed
<is> the fruit of thy womb. {43} And whence <is> this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come
to me? {44} For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy
salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. {45} And blessed <is> she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from
the Lord." Both received miracles of super-natural births from God. Jesus and John, the Baptist, as babies where
cousins who sensed each other presents. Elisabeth
praised Mary who would be blessed by Jesus birth, life & death.
IV) MARY'S NEED FOR A SAVIOR FROM HER SINS:
See my paper: "What is a Born-Again & How to Become One?" for more
information on this subject.
See my paper: "True Gospel of Salvation by the Imputed Righteousness
of Jesus" for more information on this subject.
Luke 1:46 "And Mary
said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, {47} And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour." Mary, like us, needed
Jesus as savior for our sins. Mary knew
the scripture of the coming Messiah and thanked God for His soon arrival.
V) MARY IS THANKFUL TO GOD AND HUMBLE BY HER BLESSING:
Luke 1:48 "For he
hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations
shall call me blessed" Mary is thankful to God for
her great opportunity.
Luke 1:49-56 "For he
that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy <is> his name. {50} And his mercy <is> on them that fear him from generation
to generation. {51} He hath showed strength with his arm; he hath
scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. {52} He hath
put down the mighty from <their> seats, and exalted them of low degree. {53} He hath
filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. {54} He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance
of <his> mercy; {55} As he spake
to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. {56} And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her
own house." Mary's statement shows a strong belief in God.
VI) MARY HAD SEVERAL OTHER CHILDREN:
See my paper: "Disciples & Others of Jesus Family" for more
information on this subject.
Luke 2:5-7 "To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. {6} And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were
accomplished that she should be delivered. {7} And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because
there was no room for them in the inn." Jesus was the firstborn of several
children.
Matthew
13:55-56 "Is not this the
carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his
brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? {56} And his
sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this
<man> all these things?" Jesus had brethren=brothers
VII) WISE MEN VISIT JESUS. JOSEPH, NOT MARY, HEARS FROM GOD:
Matthew
2:11-13 "And when they were come
into the house, they saw
the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down,
and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. {12} And
being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they
departed into their own country another way. {13} And when they were departed,
behold, the angel of
the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the
young child to destroy him" The wise man came to worship Jesus (God) and
to offer Him gifts not Mary.
VIII) JOSEPH TAKES JESUS & MARY TO EGYPT: Joseph, as father, assumed leadership &
authority. He was first told in a dream to leave. Mary did not have dream
(communicate nor intercede with God).
Matthew
2:20-21 "Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the
young child's life. {21} And
he arose, and took the
young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel."
IX) MARY & JOSEPH LEARN OF JESUS TRUE HEAVENLY FATHER (GOD): Jesus
knows His true father, but as a human child humbled Himself.
See my paper: "Just Who Is God" for more
information on this subject.
Luke 2:41-51 "Now his
parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. {42} And
when he was twelve
years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. {43} And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child
Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and
his mother knew not <of it>. {44} But they,
supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among <their>
kinsfolk and acquaintance. {45} And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. {46} And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the
midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. {47} And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and
answers. {48} And when they saw him, they were
amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. {49} And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? {50} And they understood not the saying which he spake
unto them. {51} And he went down with
them, and came to Nazareth, and was
subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart." Jesus was about His Father work.
X) JESUS CLAIMED HIMSELF THE MESSIAH & MEN HAD THIS
RESPONSE:
Mark 6:3-4 "Is not
this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. {4} But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his
own kin, and in his own house." Family
XI) JESUS FIRST MIRACLE IS AT WEDDING WITH MARY ATTENDING ALSO:
John 2:1-5 "And the third day there was a marriage in Cana
of Galilee; and the
mother of Jesus was there: {2} And both Jesus was called, and
his disciples, to the marriage. {3} And when they
wanted wine, the
mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. {4} Jesus
saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. {5} His mother
saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do <it>." Mary is put down by Jesus.
XII) JESUS COMPARES DISCIPLES WITH HIS MOTHER
& FAMILY:
Matthew
12:46-50 "While he yet talked to
the people, behold, <his>
mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. {47} Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. {48} But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is
my mother? and who are my brethren? {49} And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my
mother and my brethren! {50} For
whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother." Jesus puts mother, brothers & sisters in secondary place
compared to kingdom people.
XIII) JESUS MOTHER AND BROTHERS THINK JESUS IS MAD:
Mark 3:21-23 "And when his
friends heard <of it>, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside
himself. {22} And the scribes which
came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. {23} And he
called them <unto him>, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan
cast out Satan?" They believe Jesus to be beside himself or be mad or
crazy. In Mark 3:31-35 His mother & family concurred.
Acts 26:24 "And as he thus spake for himself, Festus
said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad." Thou art beside thyself = mad
XIV) JESUS BROTHERS WANT JESUS TO BE KILLED:
John 7:2-11 "Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand. {3} His brethren therefore said unto
him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy
disciples also may see the works that thou doest. {4} For <there is> no man <that> doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, show thyself to the world. {5} For neither
did his brethren believe in him. {6} Then Jesus said unto them, My time
is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. {7} The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works
thereof are evil. {8} Go ye
up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet
full come. {9} When he had said these words unto them, he abode
<still> in Galilee. {10} But when his brethren were gone up, then went he
also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
{11} Then the Jews
sought him at the feast, and said, Where
is he?" Jesus brothers wanted Him to be killed by Jews.
XV) MARY AT JESUS CROSS:
John
19:25-27 "Now there stood by the cross of Jesus
his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the
<wife> of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. {26} When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the
disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! {27} Then
saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took
her unto his own <home>" Care for Jesus mother
was important to Him before His death.
Before
Pentecost: Mary was included with the group waiting for the
baptism of the Holy Spirit to do the works of God with power.
Acts 1:14 "These all
continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the
mother of Jesus, and with his brethren." This was
just prior to receiving the Holy Spirit
XVI) SOME OF MARY'S OTHER CHILDREN BECAME
CHRISTIANS:
Two of Mary's
other children (Jesus half brothers) were part of the ministry as leaders in
the Christian church.
A) JAMES: Mary's next oldest
(Mary's second child) to Jesus.
Mark 6:3-4 "Is not
this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. {4} But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his
own kin, and in his own house." James is
first name which probably means next oldest to Jesus wrote the N.T. book of
James and was the leader in church (see Acts 15).
Acts 12:1-2 "Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth <his> hands to vex
certain of the church. {2} And he killed James the brother of John with the sword" James here is not Jesus brother. James died before Act 15 in which
Paul deals with Jesus brother.
1
Corinthians 15:4-7 "And that he was buried, and that he
rose again the third day according to the scriptures: {5} And
that he was seen of Cephas, then of the
twelve: {6} After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen
asleep. {7} After
that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles." Jesus brother
Galatians 1:19 "But other
of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother."
B) JUDE: Another of Mary's
children writes the next to last New Testament book.
Jude 1:1 "Jude, the servant of
Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are
sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, <and>
called:" Jude (Juda) the brother of Jesus.
Mary was blessed and we are to call her blessed but not to make her a god as the Catholic's have done. She was a human just like us.
