JESUS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT
By Dennis Schmidt 2/2007
RETURN TO THE: BIBLE PAPERS HOME PAGE
This paper discusses Jesus in the Old Testament. It will show that the Angel of
the Lord, which Old Testament man had seen, is God and Jesus. All scriptures
are from the King James' version Bible.
INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:
THEME:
Jesus is the angel of the Lord in the Old
Testament showing Himself as God many times.
Acts 27:23-25 "For there stood
by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I
serve, {24} Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar:
and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. {25} Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God,
that it shall be even as it was told me." God, the angel of God,
Jesus is who Paul serves and directs him.
PURPOSE: God wants to reveal Himself to His people as a Triunity
Godhead of the Father, Son (Jesus and angel of the Lord), and Holy Spirit
present everywhere at the same time.
Genesis 19:24
"Then the LORD rained upon Sodom
and upon Gomorrah brimstone and
fire from the LORD out of heaven;" Jesus, as the angel of the LORD,
is on earth calling for fire from the Father which is in heaven.
Psalms 45:6-7 "Thy
throne, O God, <is> for ever and ever: the sceptre
of thy kingdom <is> a right sceptre. {7}
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest
wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the
oil of gladness above thy fellows." God the Father calls Jesus God then
says He is God to Jesus. Hebrews 1:8 shows
one God who is both the Father & Jesus.
Hebrews 1:8-9 "But unto the
Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre
of thy kingdom. {9} Thou hast loved righteousness, & hated iniquity; therefore
God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above
thy fellows." The Father
speaks of Himself and Jesus as God.
Psalms 110:1 "A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord,
Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." God the Father calling Jesus His Lord.
KEY VERSE: The angel
of the Lord is shown in both the New and Old Testament
Exodus 23:20-21 "Behold, I
send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring
thee into the place which I have prepared. {21} Beware of him, and obey
his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your
transgressions: for my name <is> in him." The angel of
the Lord is Jesus, God, who alone pardons sins.
Acts 27:23-25 "For there
stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom
I serve, {24} Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar:
and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. {25} Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God,
that it shall be even as it was told me." God, the angel of God,
Jesus is who Paul serves and directs him.
WHO: God
mainly by Bible authors Isaiah, Daniel, Matthew, Luke, John, and Paul
TO WHOM:
Elected Christians
WHAT: Some three hundred Old Testament scriptures
predict events about Jesus.
Deuteronomy 18:15
"The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst
of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall
hearken" Moses: This future prophet will be like Moses.
John 6:14
"Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said,
This is of a truth that prophet that should
come into the world." Jesus fulfilled Deuteronomy
18:15 & other prophecy.
1 Peter 1:10-11 "Of
which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who
prophesied of the grace <that should come> unto you: {11} Searching
what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did
signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the
glory that should follow." Prophets saw little of the Messiah, His
death, glory & time
WHY:
God wants to reveal Himself to His people as a Triunity Godhead of the Father,
Son (Jesus and angel of the Lord), and Holy Spirit present everywhere at the
same time.
Judges 13:16-22
"And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah,
Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread:
and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the
LORD. For Manoah knew not that he
<was> an angel of the LORD. {17} And Manoah
said unto the angel of the LORD, What <is> thy name,
that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?
{18} And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why
askest thou thus after my name, seeing it
<is> secret? {19} So Manoah took a kid with
a meat offering, and offered <it> upon a rock unto the LORD: and <the
angel> did wonderously; and Manoah and his wife looked on. {20} For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven
from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the
altar. And Manoah and his wife
looked on <it>, and fell on their faces to the ground. {21} But the
angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah
and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that
he <was> an angel of the LORD. {22} And Manoah
said unto his wife, We shall surely die,
because we have seen God." Angel of the lord is God. His name is wonderously. This is found in Isaiah 9:6
as name for Jesus.
Isaiah 9:6-7 "For unto us a
child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be
upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting
Father, The Prince of Peace. {7} Of the increase of <his> government and peace
<there shall be> no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his
kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice
from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform
this."
WAY:
The LORD (Jesus), the angel of the
Lord who could pardon sins, was guiding Israel in the desert in the pillar of cloud to the promise land.
Exodus 13:21
"And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to
lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to
go by day & night:" The LORD Jesus was in cloud.
He guided them in the way to the
place He prepared for them.
Deuteronomy 31:15 "And the LORD
appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: and the pillar of
the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle."
WHEREAS: God
(singular) shows Himself as a Triunity Godhead in the Old Testament
Genesis 3:22
"And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to
know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the
tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:"
Isaiah 48:16 "Come ye near
unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning;
from the time that it was, there <am> I: and now the Lord GOD,
and his Spirit, hath sent me." Jesus speaking
here. He was in the beginning and He is eternal. The Lord God and the Spirit are present
with Jesus.
Isaiah 63:8-10 "For he
said, Surely they <are> my people,
children <that> will not lie: so he was their Saviour.
{9} In all their affliction he was afflicted,
and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he
redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of
old. {10} But they rebelled, and vexed his holy
Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, <and> he
fought against them." God, Father, speaking. Jesus the angel of His presence
saved, redeemed, and bared them.
They rebelled and vexed the holy spirit.
WHERE:
Israel
WHEN: All Times
WHILE:
Angel of the LORD is also the LORD
speaking out of heaven to Abraham
Genesis 22:11-16 "And the angel
of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham:
and he said, Here <am> I. {12} And he said, Lay not thine hand upon
the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son,
thine only <son> from me. {13} And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and
looked, and behold behind <him> a ram caught in a thicket by his horns:
and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in
the stead of his son. {14} And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said <to> this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. {15} And the angel
of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, {16} And
said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou
hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only
<son>:"
WANT:
God wants to reveal Himself as both the
angel of the Lord and God at the same time in the same place.
Exodus 3:2-6 "And the
angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a
bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush
burned with fire, and the bush <was> not consumed. {3} And Moses
said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why
the bush is not burnt. {4} And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to
see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said,
Moses, Moses. And he said, Here <am> I.
{5} And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for
the place whereon thou standest <is> holy
ground. {6} Moreover he said, I <am> the God of thy father,
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God." Jesus
confirmed that God spoke from the bush. Exodus 3:2
above says the angle of the Lord was in the bush. The angel of the Lord is God
of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob.
Mark 12:26
"And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book
of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him,
saying, I <am> the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob?"
God spoke in the bush.
Acts 7:30-32
"And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the
wilderness of mount Sina an angel of
the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. {31} When Moses saw <it>, he
wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold <it>, the voice
of the Lord came unto him, {32} <Saying>, I <am> the God of
thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and
the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold." Both the angel of the Lord, Jesus, and
God are speaking from the bush as there is only one God.

II) TRI-UNITY GOD AT CREATION:
See my paper: "Godhead
Relationship" for
more information on this subject.
Genesis 1:26 "And God said,
Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the
cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
III) TRI-UNITY GOD AFTER
MAN HAS SINNED:
Genesis 3:22 "And the LORD
God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil:
and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and
eat, and live for ever:"
IV) JESUS TO ISHMAEL'S
MOTHER HAGAR:
Genesis 16:10-13 "And the angel
of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly,
that it shall not be numbered for multitude. {11} And the angel of the LORD
said unto her, Behold, thou <art> with child, and shalt
bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath
heard thy affliction. {12} And he will be a wild
man; his hand <will be> against every man, and every man's hand
against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. {13} And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest
me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?"
V) JESUS TO ABRAHAM &
SARAH - BABY PROMISED: I = JESUS
Genesis 18:1-3 "And the LORD
appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he
sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; {2} And he lift up his eyes and
looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw <them>,
he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
{3} And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour
in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:" One of three
= Jesus (two others angels)
Genesis 18:10-14 "And he
said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life;
and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard <it> in
the tent door, which <was> behind him. {11} Now
Abraham and Sarah <were> old <and> well stricken in age;
<and> it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. {12}
Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After
I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? {13} And the LORD
said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear
a child, which am old? {14} Is any thing too
hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee,
according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son."
VI) JESUS TO ABRAHAM SODOM DESTRUCTION NEGOTIATED:
Genesis 18:17-23, 32-33
"And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I
do; {18} Seeing that Abraham shall
surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall
be blessed in him? {19} For I know him, that he will command his
children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the
LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that
which he hath spoken of him. {20} And the LORD said, Because the cry of
Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
{21} I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether
according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
{22} And the men turned their faces from thence, and
went toward Sodom: but Abraham
stood yet before the LORD. {23} And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt
thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? {32} And
he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this
once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will
not destroy <it> for ten's sake. {33} And the LORD went his way,
as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his
place."
VII) FATHER TO JESUS - HE
DESTROYED SODOM:
Genesis 19:24 "Then the LORD
rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out
of heaven;"
VIII) JESUS TO HAGAR:
Genesis 21:17-18 "And God
heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of
heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee,
Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the
lad where he <is>. {18} Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine
hand; for I will make him a great nation." I = Jesus
IX) JESUS TO ABRAHAM WHEN
ABRAHAM OFFERED ISAAC:
See my paper: "Justification
of Faith - Old Testament Doctrine" for more information on this subject.
{15} And the angel
of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, {16} And
said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou
hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only
<son>:"
X) JESUS TO JACOB -
PROMISE JACOB THE LAND:
See my paper: "Restoration
of the Kingdom of God to Israel" for more information on this subject.
Genesis 28:12-13, 19-22 "And
he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth,
and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and
descending on it. {13} And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said,
I <am> the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac:
the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it,
and to thy seed; {19} And he called the name of that place Bethel: but
the name of that city <was called> Luz at the first. {20} And Jacob
vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way
that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, {21} So that I
come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: {22}
And this stone, which I have set <for> a pillar, shall be God's
house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto
thee."
Genesis 31:11-13 "And the angel
of God spake unto me in a dream, <saying>,
Jacob: And I said, Here <am> I. {12} And he said, Lift up now thine eyes,
and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle <are> ringstreaked, speckled, and grisled:
for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee. {13} I
<am> the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst
the pillar, <and> where thou vowedst a vow
unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto
the land of thy kindred." Angel of the Lord here = God of Abraham
& Isaac in 28:13.
XI) JESUS TO JACOB WHEN
JESUS CHANGES JACOB'S NAME TO ISRAEL:
Genesis 32:24-30 "And Jacob
was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the
day. {25} And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the
hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he
wrestled with him. {26} And he said, Let me go, for
the day breaketh. And he said,
I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. {27} And
he said unto him, What <is> thy name? And he said, Jacob.
{28} And he said, Thy name shall be called
no more Jacob, but Israel:
for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. {29}
And Jacob asked <him>, and said, Tell
<me>, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore
<is> it <that> thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him
there. {30} And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel:
for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."
Jacob saw God/Angel blessed him
XII) JESUS TO MOSES IN
BURNING BUSH:
Mark 12:26 "And as touching
the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how
in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I
<am> the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God
of Jacob?"
Acts 7:30-32 "And when
forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a
bush. {31} When Moses saw <it>, he wondered at the sight: and as he
drew near to behold <it>, the voice of the Lord came unto him,
{32} <Saying>, I <am> the God of thy fathers, the God of
Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then
Moses trembled, and durst not behold."
XIII) JESUS LEADING
CHILDREN OF ISRAEL IN DESERT:
Exodus 13:21 "And the LORD
went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way;
and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by
day and night:"
Exodus 14:19 "And the angel
of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind
them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood
behind them:" The Lord who is the angel of God was in pillar. They're
the same.
Exodus 23:20-21 "Behold,
I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring
thee into the place which I have prepared. {21} Beware of him, and obey
his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your
transgressions: for my name <is> in him." My name is in
Him = Name of Jesus. Only God can pardon sin.
XIV) JESUS TO MOSES AARON
AND MIRIAM:
Numbers 12:5-8 "And the LORD
came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood <in> the door of the
tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth. {6} And he
said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, <I> the LORD
will make myself known unto him in a vision, <and> will speak unto him
in a dream. {7} My servant Moses
<is> not so, who <is> faithful in all mine house. {8} With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even
apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he
behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant
Moses?" Jesus as angel of the Lord in the cloud.
XV) GOD THEN JESUS TO
BALAAM TO SPEAK ONLY WHAT THEY SAY:
Numbers 22:20, 31, 33, 35
"And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men
come to call thee, rise up, <and> go with them; but yet the word which
I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do. {31} Then the LORD
opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing
in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head,
and fell flat on his face. {32} And the
angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass
these three times? behold, I went out to withstand
thee, because <thy> way is perverse before me: {35} And the
angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word
that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with
the princes of Balak." God & angel of Lord
say the same thing of what words he may say.
XVI) JESUS LEADING
CHILDREN OF ISRAEL IN DESERT:
Deuteronomy 1:32-33 "Yet in
this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God, {33} Who went in the
way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents <in>, in
fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by
day."
XVII) JESUS TO MOSES
ABOUT MOSES DEATH:
Deuteronomy 31:15 "And the LORD
appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: and the pillar of
the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle."
XVIII) JESUS TO JOSHUA
ABOUT JERICHO WALLS FALLING:
Joshua 5:13-15 "And it came
to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked,
and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in
his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him,
<Art> thou for us, or for our adversaries? {14} And
he said, Nay; but <as> captain of the host of the LORD am I now
come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship,
and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his
servant? {15} And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose
thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest <is> holy. And Joshua did so."
Joshua worshipped the angel. The shoe/holy ground incident is similar to what
Moses had experienced in Exodus 3:5 above
at the tree that was not consumed. Joshua saw God and did not die. Angel's
wouldn't allow worship.
Revelation 19:10 "And I
fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See <thou
do it> not: I am thy fellowservant, and
of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the
testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Angel stopped John.
XIX) JESUS TO CHILDREN OF
ISRAEL:
Judges 2:1-3 "And an angel
of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt,
and have brought you unto the land which I sware
unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant
with you. {2} And ye shall make no league with the
inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not
obeyed my voice: why have ye done this? {3} Wherefore I
also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they
shall be <as thorns> in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare
unto you." God used I (6) & my covenant
XX) JESUS TO GIDEON:
Judges 6:22-23 "And when Gideon
perceived that he <was> an angel of the LORD, Gideon said,
Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have
seen an angel of the LORD face to face. {23} And the LORD said unto him,
Peace <be> unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die." Gideon
saw God
XXI) JESUS TO MANOAH
SAMSON'S FATHER AND HIS MOTHER:
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform
this."
XXII) JESUS TO ELIJAH:
2 Kings 1:15 "And the angel
of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of
him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king." Angel of
Lord gives the commands.
2 Kings 1:3 "But the angel
of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise,
go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them,
<Is it> not because <there is> not a God in Israel, <that> ye
go to inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?"
XXIII) JESUS TO DAVID
AFTER DAVID SINNED BY COUNTING ISRAEL SOLDIERS:
1 Chronicles 21:15-17
"And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem
to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he
repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the
angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. {16} And David
lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth
and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over
Jerusalem. Then David and the elders <of Israel>, <who
were> clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. {17} And David
said unto God, <Is it> not I <that> commanded the people to
be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and
done evil indeed; but <as for> these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be
on me, and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they
should be plagued." Angel of Lord, Jesus, is between heaven & the
earth as intercessor for mankind & here David.
2 Samuel 24:16-17 "And when
the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem
to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the
angel that destroyed the people, It is
enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite. {17} And David spake
unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I
have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they
done? let thine hand, I pray thee,
be against me, and against my father's house." Angel of the
Lord is Lord who is Jesus our mediator.

XXV) GOD TO ISAIAH:
Isaiah 6:1-5 "In the year
that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting
upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. {2} Above it stood the seraphims: each
one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered
his feet, and with twain he did fly. {3} And one cried
unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, <is> the LORD of hosts: the
whole earth <is> full of his glory. {4} And the
posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was
filled with smoke. {5} Then said I, Woe <is> me!
for I am undone; because I <am> a man of unclean
lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes
have seen the King, the LORD of hosts."
Isaiah 37:36 "Then the
angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians
a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the
morning, behold, they <were> all dead corpses."

Isaiah 48:16 "Come ye near
unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning;
from the time that it was, there <am> I: and now the Lord GOD,
and his Spirit, hath sent me." Jesus
speaking here. He was in the beginning and He is eternal.
XXVII) JESUS TO GOD THE
FATHER:
Zechariah 1:11-12 "And they
answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees,
and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the
earth sitteth still, and is at rest. {12} Then the angel
of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou
not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast
had indignation these threescore and ten years?"
XXVIII) JESUS TO JOSHUA
(HIGH PRIEST) AND SATAN:
Zechariah 3:1-7 "And he
showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the
LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. {2} And the LORD
said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O
Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem
rebuke thee: <is> not this a brand plucked out of the fire? {3} Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before
the angel. {4} And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him,
saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I
have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with
change of raiment. {5} And I said, Let them set a
fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the
angel of the LORD stood by. {6} And the angel of the LORD protested
unto Joshua, saying, {7} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk
in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge
my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee
places to walk among these that stand by." The Angel of the Lord Godly
authority is shown in verse 4: "I have caused thine iniquity to
pass from thee" and verse 7: "If thou wilt walk in my ways
& Judge my house."
Jesus is the angel of the Lord of the Old Testament. The angel, as also God,
has power to forgive sin as Exodus 23:21
& Zechariah 3:4.
