INDUCTIVE BIBLE TOPIC STUDY
WHAT DOES GOD REALLY WANT?
By: Dennis Schmidt 9/2007
RETURN TO THE: BIBLE PAPERS HOME PAGE
This paper discusses such topics as eating various meats, Sabbaths, and
similar acts of the law (rules) pertaining to what God really wants. All
scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.
INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:
THEME: THE LAW WAS
REPLACED BY FAITH:
Romans 4:3 "For what saith the scripture? Abramham
believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness."
Righteousness = right standing before God.
Romans 4:13
"For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was
not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through
the righteousness of faith."
Hebrews 11:6 "But without
faith it is impossible to please him: for he
that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is
a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
PURPOSE: The
purpose of the law is to show us that we are sinners.
Romans 4:14-15 "For if they
which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none
effect: Because the law worketh wrath: for where no
law is, there is no transgression."
Romans 3:20
"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh
be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of
sin."
Romans 7:7 "What shall we
say then? is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not
known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law
had said, Thou shalt not covet."
Galatians 3:19
"Wherefore then serveth the law?
It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come
to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand
of a mediator."
THE LAW WAS VALID UNTIL THE PROMISE (JESUS)
CAME:
Jesus is the promise seed. The law was completed for believers.
Romans 4:21-25 "And being fully
persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
And therefore it was imputed (Imputed = To
attribute to another) to him for righteousness. Now it was not written
for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom
it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our
Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised
again for our justification." Justification = just as if we never
sinned.
Romans 10:4 "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness
to every one that believeth."
KEY VERSE:
Romans 3:20
"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh
be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of
sin."
Romans 10:4 "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness
to every one that believeth."
WHO: God
mainly by Bible authors Moses, Matthew, Luke, and Paul
TO WHOM:
Elected Christians
WHAT: IN CONCLUSION, WHAT DOES GOD REALLY WANTS?
[1] BELIEVERS DEVELOP TOTAL FAITH IN EVERY AREA
OF THEIR LIFE:
[2] UNBELIEVERS REALIZE THEY NEED TO REPENT OF
THEIR SINS:
Romans 3:10-11 "As it is written, There
is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth,
there is none that seeketh after God."
Romans 3:20 "Therefore by the deeds of the law
there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law
is the knowledge of sin." Any rules set up by us or our
religion of do's and don’ts. Whatever rules we have, we will fail them
some time in: word, through, or deed.
[3] TRUST JESUS AND BELIEVE HE HAS PAID THE
PRICE FOR YOUR SINS.
Romans 3:23-25 "For all have sinned, and come short of the
glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption
that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for
the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;"
[4] CALL UPON THE LORD AND CONFESS JESUS AS OUR
SAVIOR:
Romans 10:9-10 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the
Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised
him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth
unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
[5] IF YOU BELIEVE, YOU SHOULD ATTEND CHURCH
SATURDAY, THEN ATTEND. DON'T MAKE IT A LAW THAT SATURDAY IS THE ONLY DAY TO
ATTEND CHURCH, OR YOU BE FALLING FROM GOD'S GRACE:
Acts 15:24 "Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which
went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls,
saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we
gave no such commandment:"
Galatians 5:3-4 "For I testify again to every man that is
circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law." Christ
is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are
justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." If you believe
that you must tithe, then do it. Don't make it a law to others. If you must
work on Saturday or Sunday, then do it. Christians are free. All of these laws
and deeds can be done, but they are not requirements of God. The early church
gave no law to Gentiles.
[6] I PRAY THAT YOU DO THE ABOVE AND REPENT:
1 John 1:9 "If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
[7] TRUST IN JESUS ONLY AND WHAT HE HAS DONE
FOR YOUR SALVATION. LIVE IN CHRIST JESUS UNTO LIFE ETERNAL AND YOUR CHRISTIAN LIBERTY:
Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast
therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not
entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
WHY:
WHAT ABOUT EATING PORK AND SABBATHS?
Leviticus' explains what the Jew could and could not eat.
Exodus' explains what the Jew could and could not do on Sabbath.
Exodus 31:15-17 "Six days
may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD:
whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall
surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel
shall keep the sabbath, to
observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for
a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel
for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the
seventh day he rested, and was refreshed." Are they both laws? Yes. To
keep these requires the person to keep all the commandments.
Leviticus 11:4 "Nevertheless
these shall ye not eat of them..."
Leviticus 11:7 "And the swine,
though he divide the hoof, and be cloven-footed, yet
he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to
you."
IF YOU KEEP ANY OF THE LAW THEN YOU MUST KEEP
ALL THE LAW:
Exodus 31:17 "It is a sign
between me and the children of Israel
for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the
seventh day he rested, and was refreshed."
Galatians 5:3-4 "For I
testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a
debtor to do the whole law." Christ is become of no effect
unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the
law; ye are fallen from grace and you are a debtor to the whole law."
If you choose pork and Sabbaths why not all the laws of
Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy? These ordinance
were for Israel
and not gentiles believers. This was a sign of their eternal relationship
to God.
WAY: THE LAW IS
COMPLETED (FULFILLED) FOR CHRISTIANS:
Jesus fulfilled every law and Christian's are no longer under the
law.
Matthew 5:18 "For verily I
say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle
shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."
Romans 14:2 "For one
believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak,
eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth not judge him that eateth:
for God hath received him." If one wishes to eat pork, he may; and if one
wishes to not eat, he may also not eat. However, both people are servants of
the Lord's.
Romans 14:23
"And he that doubteth is damned
if he eat, because he eateth
not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith."
Galatians 3:23
"But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up
unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was
our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be
justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no
longer under a schoolmaster." Already mention is love as the
fulfillment of the law. The Christian shouldn't steal, lie, etc. What of eating
pork?
WHEREAS: DID JESUS KEEP THE LAW?
Jesus lived as a Jew, under the law, to fulfill the law for us.
Matthew 5:17
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the
prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."
The law was nailed to the cross with Jesus. Jesus, alone of all mankind, kept
the entire law and fulfill every law.
Colossians 2:14 "Blotting
out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which
was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his
cross;"
WHERE:
Earth
WHEN: All Times
WHILE: IS SATURDAY
OR SUNDAY THE SABBATH?
Saturday is still the Sabbath and it was given to Israel
and not to gentiles.
Acts 20:7 "And upon the first
day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread,
Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his
speech until midnight."
Romans 14:5 "One man
esteemeth one day above another: another
esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully
persuaded in his own mind." The Christian is to worship Jesus every day
and will not be judged by any on meat, drink, or Sabbaths.
1 Corinthians 16:2 "Upon
the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in
store, as God hath prospered him, that there be
no gatherings when I come."
Colossians 2:16
"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in
respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or
of the sabbath days:" The first
church met after sundown and called it the Lord's day. In Judaism, the next day
or Sunday would start at sundown.

AND WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR YOUR SALVATION. LIVE IN CHRIST JESUS UNTO LIFE ETERNAL
AND YOUR CHRISTIAN LIBERTY:
I) THE LAW WAS REPLACED
BY FAITH:
See my paper: "Faith" for more information on this subject.
Romans 4:3 "For what saith the scripture? Abramham
believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness."
Righteousness = right standing before God.
Romans 4:13 "For the promise,
that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his
seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith."
Hebrews 11:6 "But without
faith it is impossible to please him: for he
that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is
a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
II) WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE
OF THE LAW?
The purpose of the law is to show us that we are sinners.
See my paper: "Questions
& Answers on Law, Faith, & liberty" for more information on this subject.
Romans 4:14-15 "For if they
which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none
effect: Because the law worketh wrath: for where no
law is, there is no transgression."
Romans 3:20 "Therefore by

III) THE LAW WAS VALID
UNTIL THE PROMISE (JESUS) CAME:
Jesus is the promise seed. The law was completed for believers.
See my paper: "Jesus Life,
Events, & Identity" for more information on this subject.
Romans 4:21-25 "And being fully
persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
And therefore it was imputed (Imputed = To
attribute to another) to him for righteousness. Now it was not written
for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom
it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our
Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised
again for our justification." Justification = just as if we never
sinned.
See my paper: "Justification"
for more information on
this subject.
Romans 10:4 "For Christ
is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth."
IV) WHAT DOES A CHRISTIAN
DO WITH LAW? FULFILL IT. HOW?
See my paper: "Love" for more information on this subject.
Jesus gave only three commandments in which we fulfill the law.
Matthew 22:36-40 "Master,
which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said unto him, Thou
shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all
thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment. And the second is
like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the
prophets."
John 15:12
"This is my commandment, That ye love
one another, as I have loved you." The only way we can keep the
law is by loving others.
Romans 13:8 "Owe no man any
thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth
another hath fulfilled the law."
Galatians 5:14 "For all
the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
V) WHAT ABOUT EATING PORK
AND SABBATHS?
Leviticus' explains what the Jew could and could not eat.
Exodus' explains what the Jew could and could not do on Sabbath.
See my paper: "Christians
are Not Under Law, But Jews Can Culturally Keep God's Commandments" for more information on this subject.
Exodus 31:15-17 "Six days
may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD:
whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall
surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel

that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not
come to destroy, but to fulfil." The

was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his
cross;"
VIII) THE LAW IS
COMPLETED (FULFILLED) FOR CHRISTIANS:
Jesus fulfilled every law and Christian's are no longer under the

of the sabbath days:" The first
church met after sundown and called it the Lord's day. In Judaism, the next day
or Sunday would start at sundown.
X) IN CONCLUSION, WHAT
DOES GOD REALLY WANTS?
[1] BELIEVERS DEVELOP TOTAL
FAITH IN EVERY AREA OF THEIR LIFE:
See my paper: "What is a
Born-Again & How to Become One" for more information on this subject.
[2] UNBELIEVERS REALIZE THEY
NEED TO REPENT OF THEIR SINS:
See my paper: "Original
Sin & Its Results" for more information on this subject.
Romans 3:10-11 "As
it is written, There is none righteous,
no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there
is none that seeketh after God."
Romans 3:20
"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh
be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge
of sin." Any rules set up by us or our religion of do's and don’ts.
Whatever rules we have, we will fail them some time in: word, through, or deed.
[3] TRUST JESUS AND BELIEVE
HE HAS PAID THE PRICE FOR YOUR SINS.
See my paper: "Jesus in the
Old Testament" for
more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Messianic
Prophecies that Jesus Fulfilled" for more information on this subject.
Romans 3:23-25 "For all
have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely
by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God
hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to
declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the
forbearance of God;"
[4] CALL UPON THE LORD AND
CONFESS JESUS AS OUR SAVIOR:
Romans 10:9-10 "That if
thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the
mouth confession is made unto salvation."
[5] IF YOU BELIEVE, YOU
SHOULD ATTEND CHURCH SATURDAY, THEN ATTEND. DON'T MAKE IT A LAW THAT SATURDAY
IS THE ONLY DAY TO ATTEND CHURCH, OR YOU BE FALLING
FROM GOD'S GRACE:
See my paper: "Church Officiers and Their Qualifications" for more information on this subject.
Acts 15:24 "Forasmuch as we
have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words,
subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and
keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:"
Galatians 5:3-4 "For I
testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a
debtor to do the whole law." Christ is become of no effect unto you,
whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are
fallen from grace." If you believe that you must tithe, then do it. Don't
make it a law to others. If you must work on Saturday or Sunday, then do it.
Christians are free. All of these laws and deeds can be done, but they are not
requirements of God. The early church gave no law to Gentiles.
