GOSPEL SHOWN IN THE GENEALOGY OF ADAM

This paper discusses Genesis 5 the book of generations of Adam. This genealogy is also found in 1 Chronicles 1 & Luke 3. In this genealogy is a number of people whose names have meanings when put together in their birth order, presents the gospel message of Jesus. I heard a tape, by Dr. Ray Steadman, on this message and copied the meanings of the names in my Bible. The message is worth teaching. I also showed a time line for each antediluvian patriarch person & scriptures which proves that a year of their life is equal to a year of our life. All scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.

INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:

THEME: God shows the gospel of Jesus.

Dust of the ground <man is> appointed <as> fallen man subject to all kind of evil in soul & body <in his> sorry <and> one that laments <sinful state>, <but the> blessed God shall come down <and> initiated <by the blessed God> his death shall bring despairing <man> comfort & rest <from their sins>.

PURPOSE: To study God's word by which God reveals His secrets of the gospel unto salvation by the imputed righteousness of Jesus.

Deuteronomy 29:29 "The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law." We are to search the scriptures.

Proverbs 25:2 "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter."

Romans 11:33-34 "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! {34} For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?"

John 5:39 "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."

2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Either the person is written in the book of the generations of Adam (man) or in the book of generation of Jesus Christ.

Acts 17:28 "For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." The Christian is united with Jesus for his existence.

Colossians 3:3-4 "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. {4} When Christ, <who is> our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory."

1 Chronicles 1:1-4 "Adam, Sheth, Enosh, {2} Kenan, Mahalaleel, Jered, {3} Henoch, Methuselah, Lamech, {4} Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth." Sheth=Seth; Enosh=Enos; Kenan=Cainan; Jered=Jared; Henoch=Enoch

Genesis 5 Scriptures:

Genesis 5:1-2 "This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; {2} Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created."

God created man in His likeness. Both male and female are created in the likeness of God, and He called both their name Adam. Adam named the animals. After man's fall, he sinned, the female is called Eve since she is the mother of mankind.

Romans 5:12, 17 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: {17} For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)" Adam had two children earlier, Cain and Abel, before Seth. Each of Adam's offspring are in Adam's likeness which includes being born with sin. Mankind, however, is in the image of God.

A) ADAM: Meaning: Dust of the ground; Adam at 130 (birth of Seth) + 800 -> 930 years

Genesis 5:3-5 "And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: {4} And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: {5} And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died." 130 + 800 -> 930 years. Whenever man begets his child, the inner nature of that child is sinful from Adam's seed. All died except Enoch.

B) SETH: Meaning: He set or appointed or replacement or substituted; Seth at 105 (birth of Enos) + 807 -> 912 years

Genesis 5:6-8 "And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos: {7} And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters: {8} And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died." 105 + 807 -> 912 years

Genesis 4:25-26 "And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. {26} And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD."

C) ENOS: Meaning: Mortal man or fallen man or frail or subject to all kind of evil in soul & body; Enos at 90 (birth of Cainan) + 815 -> 905 years

Genesis 5:9-11 "And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan: {10} And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters: {11} And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died." 90 + 815 -> 905 years

D) CAINAN: Meaning: Sorry or lamenter or possessor or purchaser or one that laments; Cainan at 70 (birth of Mahalaleel) + 840 -> 910 years

Genesis 5:12-14 "And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel: {13} And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters: {14} And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died." 70 + 840 -> 910 years

E) MAHALALEEL: Meaning: Blessed God or praise of God; Mahalaleel at 65 (birth of Jared) + 830 -> 895 years

Genesis 5:15-17 "And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared: {16} And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters: {17} And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died." 65 + 830 -> 895 years

F) JARED: Meaning: Shall come down or descent; Jared at 162 (birth of Enoch) + 800 -> 962 years

Genesis 5:18-20 "And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch: {19} And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: {20} And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died." 162 + 800 -> 962 years

G) ENOCH: Meaning: Teaching or dedicated or initiated or disciplined or well regulated; Enoch at 65 (birth of Methuselah) + 300 -> 365 years; Enoch walked with God & did not die; because he please God by faith; God took or translated him

Genesis 5:21-24 "And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: {22} And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: {23} And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: {24} And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him." 65 + 300 -> 365 years; Enoch walked with God after the birth of his son Methuselah because the name means the flood will destroy the earth. Enoch did not die; because he pleased God by faith; God took or translated him to heaven.

Hebrews 11:5 "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God." Enoch was the 1st person that did not die.

2 Kings 2:11 "And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven."Elijah was the 2nd person that did not die.

H) METHUSELAH: Meaning: When he is dead it shall bring or be sent a deluge; Methuselah at 187 (birth of Lamech) + 782 -> 969 years; Methuselah lived the longest of any man.

Genesis 5:25-27 "And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech:

{26} And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters: {27} And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died." 187 + 782 -> 969 years; God's grace is shown by Methuselah living longer than any man since at his death the flood came to destroy the world.

I) LAMECH: Meaning: Despairing or powerful; Lamech at 182 (birth of Noah) + 595 -> 777 years

Genesis 5:28-31 "And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son: {29} And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed. {30} And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters: {31} And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died"182 + 595 -> 777 years

J) NOAH: Meaning: Comfort or rest or motion or wandering; Noah at 500 (birth of Shem) + 100 + Flood + 350 -> 950 years

Genesis 5:32 "And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth." 500 + 100 + Flood + 350 -> 950 years

Genesis 9:28-29 "And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. {29} And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died."

X) A YEAR OF THEIR LIFE IS EQUAL TO A YEAR OF OUR LIFE:

God in Genesis 7:11-12 exactly defines date: 600 year; 2 month; 17 day of Noah's life; flood started; 40 days/nights of rain.

Genesis 7:11-12 "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. {12} And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights."

Again, God in Genesis 8:3-4 defines date: 7 month; 17 day of Noah's life; 150 days flood stopped

Genesis 8:3-4 "And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. {4} And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat."

The Jewish calendar uses lunar or 30 days to a month. The 150 days would equal 5 months as shown in Genesis 8:3.

The 7th month & 17th day is 5 months later than 2nd month & 17th day or 150 days.

This wording shows Adam's years, months, & days are equal to our present years, months, & days.

Also, if we assume their typical person lived 900 years & we live 75 years, this is 1/12 ratio or each of their days would be 2 hours for day/night. This is most unlikely.

XI) CONCLUSION: The years they lived are the same as the years we live; they just lived about twelve times longer.
