INDUCTIVE BIBLE TOPIC STUDY
BETWEEN JESUS' DEATH & RESURRECTION WHAT WAS HE ACCOMPLISHING?
By Dennis Schmidt 3/2007
RETURN TO THE: BIBLE PAPERS HOME PAGE
This paper discusses what could have occurred during the three days between
Jesus death and resurrection. All
scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.
INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:
THEME: The paper points out that Jesus had to go
to Paradise to be with the other person who died on the
cross. I believe he also proclaimed his victory over Satan and the lost souls.
He took the keys of death and Hell. He took the captive Old Testament saints to
a new Paradise in the third Heaven. Jesus won for us
eternal life and gave the believer his power & authority to live that new
life. You too can have his power & authority. Ask Him to be your Savior
& Lord
2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore if any man <be> in Christ, <he is> a new
creature: old things are passed away; behold,
all things are become new."
Ephesians 2:2 "Wherein in
time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh
in the children of disobedience:"
PURPOSE: I believe Jesus
proclaimed his victory over Satan and the lost souls. He took the keys of death
and Hell. He took the captive Old Testament saints to a new Paradise
in the third Heaven.
John 12:31-33 "Now is the
judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
{32} And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all
<men> unto me. {33} This he said, signifying
what death he should die." Satan lost his authority.
Luke 23:40-43 "But the
other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in
the same condemnation? {41} And we indeed justly;
for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done
nothing amiss. {42} And he said unto Jesus,
Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy
kingdom. {43} And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."
Jesus went to Paradise which was in the heart of the
earth. The location of Paradise was Abraham's bosom.
Jesus later moved Paradise up to a heavenly realm. See Luke
16:19-26 next area.
Ephesians 4:8-10 "Wherefore
he saith, When he ascended up on high, he
led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. {9} (Now that he
ascended, what is it but that he also descended
first into the lower parts of the earth? {10} He that descended is the
same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all
things.)"Jesus went down & transferred the Old Testament
believers.
KEY VERSE:
Matthew 12:40 "For as Jonas
was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of
man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." The
inner earth: hell/hades.
WHO: God mainly
by Bible authors Isaiah, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul
TO WHOM:
Elected Christians
WHAT:
Jesus was in the earth three days and evenings.
Matthew 12:40 "For as Jonas
was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of
man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." The
inner earth: hell/hades.
Mark 16:2 "And very
early in the morning the first <day> of the week, they came
unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun."
Mark 16:5-6 "And entering into the sepulchre,
they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white
garment; and they were affrighted. {6} And he
saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth,
which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold
the place where they laid him."
Luke 24:21 "But we
trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel:
and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were
done." Jesus completed a few things the 3 days.
WHY: Jesus removed Satan power. Keys are symbolic of authority,
power & control.
Revelation 1:18
"I <am> he that liveth, and was dead; and,
behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of
death." Jesus proclaimed his authority over all things.
Hebrews 2:14 "Forasmuch
then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise
took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the
power of death, that is, the devil;" Jesus destroyed devils
power of death.
Revelation 3:7 "And to the
angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy,
he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth;
and shutteth, and no man openeth;" Jesus controls the keys.
Isaiah 22:22 "And the
key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open,
and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open."
Keys were large & carried over shoulder
Isaiah 9:6-7 "For unto us a
child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon
his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The
Prince of Peace. {7} Of the increase of <his>
government and peace <there shall be> no end, upon the throne of
David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with
judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD
of hosts will perform this." shoulder=power place.
WAY:
Genesis 3:15
"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed
and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."
It (Jesus death) bruised the head (Satan's authority) and thou (Satan) bruised
his heel (temporary wound to Jesus life/kingdom as the disciples saw him die).
Matthew 28:18 "And Jesus
came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."
Jesus won the power.
John 12:31-33 "Now is the
judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
{32} And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all
<men> unto me. {33} This he said, signifying
what death he should die." Satan lost his authority.
WHEREAS: Jesus
also preached (proclaimed) who He is & what He completed. Not to give the
lost a second chance. Noah had preached righteousness onto them during the time
he built the ark. None of them responded to Noah.
Hebrews 11:7 "By faith
Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared
an ark to the saving of his house; by the which
he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by
faith."
2 Peter 2:5 "And spared not
the old world, but saved Noah the eighth <person>, a preacher
of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the
ungodly;"
Hebrews 9:27
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the
judgment:"
1 Peter 3:18-20 "For Christ
also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might
bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened
by the Spirit: {19} By which also he went and preached unto the spirits
in prison; {20} Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering
of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein
few, that is, eight souls were saved by water."
Luke 16:19-26 "There was a
certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously
every day: {20} And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at
his gate, full of sores, {21} And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell
from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. {22} And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was
carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and
was buried; {23} And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in
torments, and seeth Abraham afar off,
and Lazarus in his bosom. {24} And he cried and said, Father
Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may
dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am
tormented in this flame. {25} But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in
thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise
Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. {26} And beside
all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which
would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that <would
come> from thence." Abraham's Bosom is now in a heavenly Paradise.
A great gulf separate the two areas & both groups
are locked up. Jesus took death & hell keys from Satan.
WHERE:
Israel, hell,
and heaven
Luke 23:40-43 "But the
other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in
the same condemnation? {41} And we indeed justly;
for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done
nothing amiss.
{10} He that descended is the
same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all
things.)"Jesus went down & transferred the Old Testament
believers.
Matthew 27:52-53 "And the graves
were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, {53}
And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into
the holy city, and appeared unto many." Some were allowed to go into the
city, then went to heaven.
2 Corinthians 12:2-4 "I
knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot
tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught
up to the third heaven. {3} And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or
out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) {4} How that he was
caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not
lawful for a man to utter."Paul was transferred
up to Paradise.
Revelation 2:7 "He that
hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give
to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of
God." Paradise is where God's presence is.
WHEN: Jesus death to
resurrection
WHILE:
Provided Eternal life to the believer.
John 3:14-16 "And as Moses
lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted
up: {15} That whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have eternal life. {16} For God so loved the world, that
he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have everlasting life."
Believers have this assurance.
Romans 10:9 "That if
thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in
thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
believers are saved/new life.
1 John 5:13 "These things
have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that
ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the
name of the Son of God."
WANT:
The believer does not have to fear death.
Hebrews 2:14-15 "Forasmuch
then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise
took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the
power of death, that is, the devil; {15} And deliver them who
through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."
1 John 4:18
"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth
out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth
is not made perfect in love." Close our eyes and be in God's presence.
2 Corinthians 5:6-8
"Therefore <we are> always confident, knowing that, whilst we are
at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: {7} (For we walk
by faith, not by sight:) {8} We
are confident, <I say>, and willing rather to be absent from the body,
and to be present with the Lord."
1 John 3:2 "Beloved, now
are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be:
but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him;
for we shall see him as he is."

WHAT JESUS DID DURING
THAT THREE DAY PERIOD:
Matthew 12:40 "For as Jonas
was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of
man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." The
inner earth: hell/hades.
Mark 16:2 "And very
early in the morning the first <day> of the week, they came
unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun."
Mark 16:5-6 "And entering into the sepulchre,
they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white

Luke 24:21 "But we
trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel:
and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were
done." Jesus completed a few things the 3 days.
I) REMOVED SATAN'S POWER
AND AUTHORITY: Satan usurped the earth's realm from Adam and
became the earth's new unjust ruler.
II) SATAN KINGDOM ESTABLISHED:
See my paper: "Jewish
Bible Teachings on Heaven, Hell, & Spirit Beings" for more information on this subject.
Genesis 3:1-7 "Now the serpent
was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.
And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
{2} And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of
the trees of the garden: {3} But of the fruit of the tree which
<is> in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat
of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. {4} And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not
surely die: {5} For God doth know that in the day ye eat
thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods,
knowing good and evil. {6} And when the woman saw that the tree
<was> good for food, and that it <was> pleasant to the eyes,
and a tree to be desired to make <one> wise, she took of the
fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with
her; and he did eat. {7} And the eyes of
them both were opened, and they knew that they <were> naked;
and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons." Satan
usurped earth.
Matthew 4:8-9 "Again, the devil
taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain,
and showeth him all the kingdoms of the
world, and the glory of them; {9} And saith unto him, All these things
will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me." Satan's
domain is shown, in that Satan could offer the his
kingdoms to Jesus.
John 14:30
"Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world
cometh, and hath nothing in me." Prince=Satan
Ephesians 2:2 "Wherein in
time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh
in the children of disobedience:"
III) JESUS CONQUERS SATAN:
Genesis 3:15
"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed
and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."
It (Jesus death) bruised the head (Satan's authority) and thou (Satan) bruised
his heel (temporary wound to Jesus life/kingdom as the disciples saw him die).
Matthew 28:18 "And Jesus
came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."Jesus
won the power.
John 12:31-33 "Now is the
judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
{32} And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all
<men> unto me. {33} This he said, signifying
what death he should die." Satan lost his authority.
IV) JESUS TOOK THE KEYS
FROM SATAN (THE AUTHORITY OF SATAN):
Keys are symbolic of authority, power & control.
See my paper: "God's Plan
and Purpose for the Ages" for more information on this subject.
Revelation 3:7 "And to the
angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy,
he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth;
and shutteth, and no man openeth;" Jesus controls the keys.
V) WENT TO PARADISE FOR OLD TESTAMENT BELIEVERS TO BRING
THEM TO GOD:
See my paper: "Multiple
Raptures" for more
information on this subject.
Luke 23:40-43 "But the
other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in
the same condemnation? {41} And we indeed justly;
for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done
nothing amiss.
{10} He that descended is the
same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all
things.)"Jesus went down & transferred the Old Testament
believers.
Matthew 27:52-53 "And the graves
were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, {53}
VI) JESUS PREACHED
(PROCLAIMED) UNTO THE LOST PEOPLE IN PRISON:
Jesus also preached (proclaimed) who He is & what He completed. Not to
give the lost a second chance. Noah had preached righteousness onto them during
the time he built the ark. None of them responded to Noah.
A) NOAH PREACHED:
Hebrews 11:7 "By faith
Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared
an ark to the saving of his house; by the which
he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by
faith."
2 Peter 2:5 "And spared not
the old world, but saved Noah the eighth <person>, a preacher
of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the
ungodly;"
Hebrews 9:27
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the
judgment:"
B) CHRIST PREACHED:
See my paper: "1 Peter
(3:18-22) Inductive Bible Study" for more information on this subject.
VII) GAVE
EVERLASTING/ETERNAL LIFE TO BELIEVERS:
See my paper: "What is a
Born-Again & How to Become One" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "True Gospel
for Salvation by the Imputed Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Imputed/Reckoned/Counted
Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.
VIII) REMOVED FEAR OF
SATAN AND DEATH FROM BELIEVERS:
1 John 3:2 "Beloved, now
are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be:
but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him;
for we shall see him as he is."
IX) GAVE AUTHORITY TO
BELIEVERS:
Mark 16:17
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name
shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; {18}
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it
shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall
recover." Now we can use the name of Jesus.
John 14:13-14 "And whatsoever
ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be
glorified in the Son. {14} If ye shall ask
any thing in my name, I will do <it>."
X) BELIEVERS WILL HAVE
CHANGED LIVES:
2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore if any man <be> in Christ, <he is> a new
creature: old things are passed away; behold,
all things are become new."
Ephesians 2:2 "Wherein in
time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh
in the children of disobedience:"
The paper pointed out that Jesus had to go to Paradise
to be with the other person who died on the cross. I believe he also proclaimed
his victory over Satan and the lost souls. He took the keys of death and Hell.
He took the captive Old Testament saints to a new Paradise
in the third Heaven. Jesus won for us eternal life and gave the believer his
power & authority to live that new life. You too can have his power &
authority. Ask Him to be your Savior & Lord.
