INDUCTIVE
COMMENTS:
THEME: An Apostle is one sent by God, with the
power of attorney and authority, to act (with power) in place of sender. He was chosen and ordained to the
position to be a witness of what God showed him. Apostles started many churches and
appointed Elders to the church.
Ephesians 4:11-13 "And
he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and
some, pastors and teachers; {12} For the perfecting of the saints, for the
work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: {13}
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of
the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the
stature of the fulness of Christ:"
PURPOSE:
God called the apostle to
present the gospel with power as witnesses of Jesus ministry to perfect the
Christians to the fullness of Christ.
Mark 3:14-15 "And he
ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might
send them forth to preach, {15} And to have power to heal sicknesses,
and to cast out devils:"
Ephesians 4:11-13 "And
he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and
some, pastors and teachers; {12} For the perfecting of the saints, for the
work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: {13}
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of
the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the
stature of the fulness of Christ:"
KEY VERSE:
1 Corinthians 9:1-14
"Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord? {2} If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to
you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord. {3} Mine
answer to them that do examine me is this, {4} Have we not power to eat and to
drink? {5} Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other
apostles, and <as> the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? {6} Or I only
and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working? {7} Who
goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard,
and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and
eateth not of the milk of the flock? {8} Say I these
things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
{9} For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou
shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth
out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? {10} Or saith he <it>
altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, <this> is written:
that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and
that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker
of his hope. {11} If we have sown unto you spiritual things, <is
it> a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? {12} If others be partakers of <this> power
over you, <are> not we rather? Nevertheless we have not
used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of
Christ. {13} Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live
<of the things> of the temple? and they which
wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? {14} Even so hath the Lord
ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel."

are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the
law; {21} To them that are without law, as without law,
(being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might
gain them that are without law. {22} To the
weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all

be partaker thereof with <you>."

Apostles are defined as apostles 78 times and messengers 2 times in
scriptures. Messenger is used once
for ambassador or apostle.
An Apostle is one sent by God, with the power of attorney and
authority, to act (with power) in place of sender. He was chosen and ordained to the
position to be a witness of what God showed him.
Apostles started many churches and appointed Elders to the church.
See my papers: "Church
Officers and Their Qualifications" for more information on this subject.
II) MESSENGERS:
Messenger = ambassador = apostle

"Whether <any do inquire> of Titus, <he is> my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren <be
inquired of>, <they are> the messengers of the churches,
<and> the glory of Christ."
Philippians 2:25 "Yet I
supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my

persecute:"

not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent
him."

think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed
to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to
men."
IV) APOSTLES WERE SENT TO
PERFECT THE SAINTS:

he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and
some, pastors and teachers; {12} For the perfecting of the saints, for the
work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: {13}
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of
the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the
stature of the fulness of Christ:"

wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's
porch."

of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people."

patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

of Jesus Christ, called <to be> an apostle, separated unto the
gospel of God,"

which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given
commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:"

<him>;"

angels, and to men."
2 Corinthians 1:8-9 "For we
would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia,
that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we
despaired even of life: {9} But we had the sentence of death in
ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:"
2 Corinthians 4:8-12 "<We
are> troubled on every side, yet not distressed; <we are>
perplexed, but not in despair; {9} Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast
down, but not destroyed; {10} Always bearing about in the body
the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made
manifest in our body. {11} For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the
life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. {12} So then death worketh in us, but
life in you."

that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of
his resurrection. {23} And they appointed two, Joseph
called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and
Matthias. {24} And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which

one against another. {7} For who maketh
thee to differ <from another>? and what hast
thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst
receive <it>, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst
not received <it>? {8} Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned
as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign

(being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might
gain them that are without law. {22} To the

things to all <men>, that I might by all means save some. {23} And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might
be partaker thereof with <you>."

Christ: {13} Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge
of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of
the stature of the fulness of Christ: {14}
That we <henceforth> be no more children, tossed to and
fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine,..."
