LOCATED:

Philippi in New Testament times was a Roman colony and chief city of a district of Macedonia (whose capital was Thessalonica) located in Northern Greece near the coast (Neapolis served as port).  It was annexed by Rome in 168 B.C.  It was visited by Paul on his second missionary journey and was the first European city to receive the Gospel of Christ.  Paul also went there on his third missionary journey.

SCRIPTURE RELATIVE VERSES:

Acts 16:9-15 " And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. {10} And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them. {11} Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis; {12} And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days. {13} And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither. {14} And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. {15} And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us." Paul started the Philippians’ church on his second missionary trip.

Acts 19:21-22  "After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. {22} So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season."

Acts 20:1, 6  "And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia. {6} And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days."

2 Corinthians 7:5  "For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears."

1 Thessalonians 1:7-8  "So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. {8} For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing."

1 Thessalonians 2:2  "But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention."

1 Timothy 1:3  "As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,"

I) SALUTATION & INTRODUCTIONS: {PHILIPPIANS 1:1-2}

WHOM: Paul and Timotheus TO WHO: Philippi saints, bishops, and deacons

Philippians 1:1 "Paul and Timotheus, the servants of M Jesus M T Christ T, to all the saints in T Christ T M Jesus M which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:"

Paul: Saul: means asked for and Paul: means little or small. Paul is in Rome in prison and certainly needs the comfort and help of Onesimus, but he care for the church is of more importance. He does ask for pray and that a room be set aside from Philemon 22 so that he could come to Philemon's home.

See my paper: "Apostles" for more information on this subject.

Timothy (Timotheus): Means worship of God. He was as a son to Paul. He was to carry on Paul's ministry after Paul departed. His father was a Greek and mother was a Jew (Acts 16:1). His mother was Eunice and grandmother was Lois, both of whom were Christians (2 Timothy 1:5). Paul's letters (send with regards from Timothy) include: 2 Corinthians 1:1, Philippians 1:1, Colossians 1:1, 1&2 Thessalonians, Philemon 1 & Hebrews 13:23. Paul writes to Timothy in his 2 books. Paul addresses his ministry in 1 Corinthians 16:10 & 1 Timothy 4:11-4:16. His apostleship is shown in 1 Thessalonians 1:1/2:6.

2 Timothy 1:4-6 "Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; {5} When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. {6} Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands." Paul's last testament from prison is to his spiritual son

Saints: Sanctified one, set apart, by God, for His purpose.

Psalms 50:5 "Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice."

Hebrews 10:10 "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once <for all>."

Philippi: A Roman colony of retired solders with few Jews. Lydia (seller of purple) & her family, and Jailer & his family are saved.  Paul & Silas on the 2nd missionary journey, Acts 16:12-40 were put into jail. Paul visits in Acts 20:1-6 on his 3rd mission journey.

Acts 16:12 "And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, <and> a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days."

Acts 16:21 "And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans." Roman customs vs 1 God

Bishops: Shepherd's & teacher's the flock for perfecting of saints.

The Church officers of Elder, Overseer, Presbyter, Bishop, Pastor and Shepherd are all similar positions. One may study Bible more.

See my paper: " Church Officers & their Qualifications" for more information on this subject.

Acts 20:17 "And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church." Paul refers to them in 20:28 as overseers.

Acts 20:28 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." (1 Peter 5:2: feed - shepherd and oversight - overseer)

Overseer is the same Greek word Bishop used in Philippians 1:1, 1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:7 and 1 Peter 2:25. Also called Elder in Acts 14:23 which is the same position as Bishop and Presbyters as found in 1 Timothy 4:14 and 1 Timothy 5:17. "To feed" is the same Greek word as shepherd. Pastor is found in Ephesians 4:11 and is the Greek word for shepherd. The shepherd is the one into whose care the sheep (flock) have been committed for feeding, caring, and protection for growth to maturity. The purpose of the different words are as follows: Elder indicates a mature spiritual experienced person in a position of authority. Bishop indicates the character of the work undertaken as overseer or guardian. Shepherd or Pastor indicates the function or responsibility of watching, teaching, and guiding the flock.

DEACONS: Reliable & spiritual men who serve the body of Christ in many ways as the needs arise.

The work of the Deacon is not explained in the Bible. It has been assumed that Acts 6:1-4 is that work. The definition of the word deacon is servant. The deacon is not ruler in church but a helper. Although, seven Deacons are found in Acts 6:3, this number was needed for the Jerusalem church of 5000 plus. The average church probably could use a maximum of one deacon.

Acts 6:1-4 "And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. {2} Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples <unto them>, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. {3} Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. {4} But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word."

The Bible gives examples of two of the seven, Stephen and Philip. Stephen became the first martyr as described in Acts 6:5 to 8:2. Philip, is an Evangelist as described in Acts 21:8. He has a ministry among the Samaritans as described in Acts 8:1 to 8:40. Nothing is stated about either of their Deacon ministries.

Philippians 1:2 "Grace <be> unto you, and peace, from /\ God /\ our /\ Father /\, and <from> the /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M T Christ T."  See grace in Philippians 1:7

Grace: Getting what we do not deserve as compared with mercy: not getting what we deserve.

Peace: Hebrew word Shalom used for hello, goodbye & God bless you. Only God gives peace to ones spirit of forgiveness & restoration.

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Philippians 4:7 "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Peace the opposite to anxiety. Tranquillity & worry free.

God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: God is a Triunity. God can not be divided. Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are the way the one God reveals himself. If one sees Jesus, he also sees the Father and the Holy Spirit at the same time since God can not be separated (Colossians 1:15). Jesus is perfect man and God.

See my paper: "Triunity" for more information on this subject.

Isaiah 48:16  "Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me."Jesus speaks

John 1:1, 14  "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. {14} And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." Jesus is perfect God and man at the same time.

John 14:9-10 "Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou <then>, Show us the Father? {10} Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."

2 Corinthians 13:14  "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen." Triunity Godhead presented as equals.

Colossians 2:9 "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." Jesus is the fullness of the Godhead in Himself.

WANT: THE PEOPLE TO HAVE THEIR LOVE ABOUND IN MORE KNOWLEDGE AND JUDGMENT

See my paper: "Love" for more information on this subject.

Do not cease to pray for you: Paul made similar prayers to Philippians 1:9-11 in several of his books such as:

Romans 15:5-6, 13 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13

Ephesians 1:17-20 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the LORD <is> the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy <is> understanding."

1 Thessalonians 3:12 "And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all <men>, even as we <do> toward you:"

1 John 2:27 "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."

Philippians 1:11 "Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by M Jesus M T Christ T, unto the glory and praise of /\ God /\."

WAY: THE PEOPLE BE FILLED WITH FRUITS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS BY JESUS TO GLORY OF GOD

Being filled with the fruits of righteousness by Jesus Christ:

See my paper: "Imputed/Reckoned/Counted Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.

Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, {23} Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

III) PAUL'S PERSONAL EXPERIENCES: {PHILIPPIANS 1:12-26} Paul is in prison for Jesus

Philippians 1:12 "But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things <which happened> unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the [ gospel ];"

Gospel:

Romans 1:16-17 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. {17} For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith."

1 Corinthians 15:1-4  "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; {2} By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. {3} For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; {4} And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

See my paper: "What is a Born-Again & How to Become One?" for more information on this subject.

Philippians 1:13 "So that my bonds in T Christ T are manifest in all the palace, and in all other <places>;"

My bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace: Preached to king

Acts 26:27-29 "King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest. {28} Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. {29} And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds."

Philippians 1:14 "And many of the brethren in the /\ Lord /\, waxing [ confident ] by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear."

Many seeing grow confident by my bonds & speck gospel without fear:

Acts 4:29 "And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,"

Acts 28:30-31 "And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him, {31} Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him."

Philippians 1:15 "Some indeed preach T Christ T even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:" Possibly Judaziers.

Some preach Christ in envy and strife in contention to hurt me:

1 Corinthians 3:3 "For ye are yet carnal: for whereas <there is> among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?"

1 Corinthians 6:6 "But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers."

Philippians 1:16 "The one preach T Christ T of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:"

Supposing to add affliction to my bonds:

Job 16:4  "I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you."

Philippians 1:17 "But the other of [ love ], [ knowing ] that I am set for the defence of the [ gospel ]."

Other preaches of love & knowing I am set for gospel:

1 Corinthians 9:16-17 "For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! {17} For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation <of the gospel> is committed unto me."

(1) What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. {Philippians 1:18}

(2) That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again. {Philippians 1:26}

(3) Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. {17} Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all. {18} For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me. {Philippians 2:16-18}

(4) I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. {Philippians 2:28}

(5)  Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. {3} For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. {Philippians 3:1, 3}

(6) Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. {Philippians 4:4}

(7) But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. {Philippians 4:10}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philippians 1:18 "What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, T Christ T is preached; and I therein do [ rejoice ], yea, and will [ rejoice ]."

Whether in pretence ... in truth, Christ is preached:

See my paper: "Man's Greatest Need - Relationship with God" for more information on this subject.

Mark 12:40 "Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation."

1 Corinthians 15:11 "Therefore whether <it were> I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed."

Philippians 1:19 "For I [ know ] that this shall turn to my salvation through your [ prayer ], and the supply of the /\ Spirit /\ of M Jesus M T Christ T," Salvation = freedom from prison.

Spirit of Jesus Christ:

See my paper: "God the Holy Spirit or Ghost Scriptures & Notes" for more information on this subject.

Isaiah 11:1-2 "And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: {2} And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;" 7 fold Spirit of Rev. 5:6.

John 15:26 "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, <even> the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:"

1 Peter 1:10-11 "Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace <that should come> unto you: {11} Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow."

Revelation 5:6 "And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth."

Philippians 1:20 "According to my earnest expectation and <my> hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but <that> with all boldness, as always, <so> now also T Christ T shall be magnified in my body, whether <it be> by [ life ], or by death."

Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death:

Romans 14:8 "For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's."

Philippians 1:21 "For to me to live <is> Christ, and to die <is> gain."

For to me to live is Christ ... to die is gain:

Galatians 2:20 "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

2 Corinthians 5:6,8 "Therefore <we are> always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: {8} We are confident, <I say>, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

1 Thessalonians 2:1, 13  " For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain: {13}  For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe."

Philippians 1:24 "Nevertheless to abide in the flesh <is> more needful for you."

To abide in the flesh <is> more needful for you: We have a choice by the will of God. Paul decided to stay.

Acts 20:29-31  "For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. {30} Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. {31} Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears."

IV) EXHORTATIONS: {PHILIPPIANS 1:27-2:18}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 KEY WORD: MIND {PHILIPPIANS 1:27-4:2}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; {Philippians 1:27}

(2) Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. {Philippians 2:2}

(3) Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. {Philippians 2:3}

(4) Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: {Philippians 2:5}

(5) Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. {Philippians 3:16}

(6) Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) {Philippians 3:19}

(7) I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. {Philippians 4:2}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philippians 1:27 "Only let your conversation be as it becometh the [ gospel ] of T Christ T: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one [ mind ] striving together for the [ faith ] of the [ gospel ];" One mind & spirit see Philippians 2:2.

Striving for the faith:

See my paper: "Faith" for more information on this subject.

Philippians 1:29 "For unto you it is given in the behalf of T Christ T, not only to believe on M him M, but also to [ suffer ] for M his M sake;"

It give unto you to not only believe, but suffer for Him:

Acts 14:22 "Confirming the souls of the disciples, <and> exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God."

2 Timothy 3:12 "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution."

Philippians 2:1 "If <there be> therefore any consolation in T Christ T, if any comfort of [ love ], if any [ fellowship ] of the /\ Spirit /\, if any bowels and mercies," i.e. Since men can count on Christ, then:

Philippians 2:2 "Fulfil ye my [ joy ], that ye be [ likeminded ], having the same [ love ], <being> of one accord, of one [ mind ]."

Being of one accord, of one mind: See also Philippians 3:15.

Romans 15:5 "Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:"

Romans 12:16 "<Be> of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits."

Philippians 2:3 "<Let> nothing <be done> through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of [ mind ] let each esteem other better than themselves."

WHAT: LOWLINESS OF MIND LET EACH ESTEEM OTHER BETTER THAN THEMSELVES

Nothing be done through strife or vainglory ... esteem others better:

See my paper: "Walk as Jesus Walked" for more information on this subject.

Romans 12:10 "<Be> kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;"

Philippians 2:4 "Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others."

Every man also on the things of others:

Romans 15:1 "We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISCELLANEOUS: MIND OF CHRIST BE OUR EXAMPLE {PHILLIPPIANS 2:5-2:11}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1)  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: {Philippians 2:5}

(2) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: {Philippians 2:6}

(3) But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: {Philippians 2:7}

(4) And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. {Philippians 2:8}

(5) Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: {Philippians 2:9}

(6) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; {Philippians 2:10}

(7) And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. {Philippians 2:11}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philippians 2:5 "Let this [ mind ] be in you, which was also in T Christ T M Jesus M:"

Mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

1 Peter 2:21  "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:"

WAY: LET THIS MIND BE IN YOU, AS IS IN CHRIST JESUS BEING FORM OF GOD EQUAL GOD

Philippians 2:6 "M Who M, being in the form of /\ God /\, thought it not robbery to be equal with /\ God /\:" Form = nature

To be equal with God:

John 10:30  "I and my Father are one."

John 14:9  "Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?"

See my paper: "The One God - The Shama" for more information on this subject.

Philippians 2:7 "But made M himself M of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:"

Philippians 2:8 "And being found in fashion as a man, M he M humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."

The same mind as Jesus ... form of servant ... obedient unto death:

Mark 10:44-45  "And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. {45} For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."

John 17:5 "And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was."

2 Corinthians 8:9 "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich."

See my paper: "Jesus Life, Events, & Identity" for more information on this subject.

Even the death of the cross:

Deuteronomy 21:23  "His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance."

Galatians 3:13 "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed <is> every one that hangeth on a tree:"

Philippians 2:9 "Wherefore /\ God /\ also hath highly exalted M him M, and given M him M a name which is above every name:"

God has highly exalted him & given him a name which is above every name:

Ephesians 1:21-22  "Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: {22} And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,"

Colossians 1:18  "And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence."

WHILE: GOD HAS HIGHLY EXALTED HIM, AND GIVEN HIM A NAME ABOVE EVERY NAME

See my paper: "Jesus Two Comings as King" for more information on this subject.

Philippians 2:10 "That at the name of M Jesus M every knee should bow, of <things> in heaven, and <things> in earth, and <things> under the earth;"

Philippians 2:11 "And <that> every tongue should confess that M Jesus M T Christ T <is> /\ Lord /\, to the glory of /\ God /\ the /\ Father /\."

WHY: EVERY TONGUE CONFESS JESUS CHRIST IS LORD TO GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER

Jesus name above all others ... every knee to bow ... confess He is Lord:

See my paper: "Just Who is God?" for more information on this subject.

Isaiah 45:23 "I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth <in> righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear."

Revelation 4:10-11 "The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, {11} Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."

Philippians 2:12 "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling: fear = respect

See my paper: "What Does God Really Want?" for more information on this subject.

Not in doubt/anxiety, but in absolute purpose to go on to maturity.

Matthew 24:13 "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." Christian walk is an ongoing life time process.

2 Peter 1:5-8 "And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; {6} And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; {7} And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. {8} For if these things be in you, and abound, they make <you that ye shall> neither <be> barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Philippians 2:13 "For it is /\ God /\ which worketh in you both to will and to do of /\ <his> /\ good pleasure."

WAIT: GOD WORKS IN YOU BOTH TO WILL AND DO HIS GOOD PLEASURE

It is God working in you to will and do His good pleasure: Spirit

See my paper: "Questions & Answers on Law, Faith, & Liberty" for more information on this subject.

Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

Philippians 2:14 "Do all things without murmurings and disputings"

Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

Philippians 4:11  "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."

Philippians 2:15 "That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;"

WANT: YOU BE BLAMELESS AND HARMLESS, THE SONS OF GOD, IN MIDDLE OF EVIL PEOPLE

Philippians 2:16 "Holding forth the word of [ life ]; that I may [ rejoice ] in the [ day of ] T Christ T, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain."

The Word of Life:

1 Peter 1:23  "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."

See my paper: "God's Word/Bible/Scriptures" for more information on this subject.

I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain:

1 Thessalonians 2:19 "For what <is> our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? <Are> not even ye in the presence of our /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M T Christ T at his coming?"

Philippians 2:17 "Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your [ faith ], I [ joy ], and [ rejoice ] with you all."

I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith:

2 Timothy 4:6-8 "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. {7} I have fought a good fight, I have finished <my> course, I have kept the faith: {8} Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

Rejoice with you all: See also Philippians 4:12

2 Corinthians 6:10 "As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and <yet> possessing all things."

Philippians 2:18 "For the same cause also do ye [ joy ], and [ rejoice ] with me."

V) PAUL'S ASSOCIATES: {PHILIPPIANS 2:19-30}

Philippians 2:19 "But I trust in the /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I [ know ] your state."

Philippians 2:20 "For I have no man [ likeminded ], who will naturally care for your state."

Philippians 2:21 "For all seek their own, not the things which are M Jesus M T Christ's T."

Philippians 2:22 "But ye [ know ] the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the [ gospel ]."

Son with the father:

Matthew 23:9 "And call no <man> your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." Father as equal to God.

1 Corinthians 4:17 "For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church."

1 Timothy 1:2 "Unto Timothy, <my> own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, <and> peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord."

Gospel:

Philippians 4:3  "And I entreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life."

Philippians 2:24 "But I trust in the /\ Lord /\ that I also myself shall come shortly." see also Philippians 1:24-25.

I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly:

Philippians 1:13 "So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other <places>;"

Bonds or prison. Nevertheless, Paul shows his faith that he will be released to go to Philippi and Colosse.

Philemon 22 "But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you."

MISCELLANEOUS: CHRISTIANS CAN BECOME SICK, BUT GOD IS DELIVERER {PHILLIPPIANS 2:25-2:30}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. {Philippians 2:26}

(2) For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. {Philippians 2:27}

(3) Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me. {Philippians 2:30}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philippians 2:25 "Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and [ fellowsolder ], but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants."

Epaphroditus: His name means agreeable and handsome. Philippians 4:18 is the only Biblical references. He came with gifts from Philippi and helped Paul. Paul is sending him back.

Philippians 4:18  "But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God."

See my paper: "Apostles" for more information on this subject.

Companion in labour ... fellowsoldier ... your messenger:

2 Corinthians 8:23 "Whether <any do inquire> of Titus, <he is> my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren <be inquired of>, <they are> the messengers of the churches, <and> the glory of Christ." Messenger = ambassador = apostle. See apostle paper.

Philippians 2:26 "For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick."

Philippians 2:27 "For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but /\ God /\ had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow."

He was sick: Christians can get sick, because of their sin, overworked in Gospel, or God's purpose. God's promises should be exercised to get them healed.

See my paper: "Why Do the Righteous Suffer - Book of Job" for more information on this subject.

Matthew 8:17 "That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare <our> sicknesses." Esaias = Isaiah 53; Healing is in the atonement.

1 Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He was whipped for our infirmities & sicknesses.

James 5:14-15 "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: {15} And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him." Christians can be sick, but Jesus will heal them that believe in his healing work of Isaiah 53.

Philippians 2:28 "I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may [ rejoice ], and that I may be the less sorrowful."

Philippians 2:29 "Receive him therefore in the /\ Lord /\ with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:"

Philippians 2:30 "Because for the work of T Christ T he was nigh unto death, not regarding his [ life ], to supply your lack of service toward me."

For work of Christ ... sick unto death ... to supply your service:

A person can be sick from doing the work of Christ. If he does not take rests, average one day per week.

VI) WARNING AGAINST JUDAIZERS: {PHILIPPIANS 3:1-4:1}

CONCLUSION: FINALLY REJOICE IN THE LORD

Philippians 3:1 "Finally, my brethren, [ rejoice ] in the /\ Lord /\. To write the same things to you, to me indeed <is> not grievous, but for you <it is> safe." Rejoice: See Philippians 4:4

Philippians 3:2 "Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision." Concision = mutilators for circumcision sake.

WATCH: BEWARE OF DOGS, BEWARE OF EVIL WORKERS, BEWARE OF THE CONCISION

Beware of dogs: The same thing the Jews called the gentiles.

Matthew 15:26-27 "But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and cast <it> to dogs. {27} And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."

THEME OF PHILIPPIANS: WORSHIP GOD IN SPIRIT & REJOICE IN CHRIST JESUS

Philippians 3:3 "For we are the circumcision, which worship /\ God /\ in the /\ spirit /\, and [ rejoice ] in T Christ T M Jesus M, and have no [ confidence ] in the flesh."

WHAT: WE WORSHIP GOD IN SPIRIT, REJOICE IN CHRIST, & HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN FLESH

We are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit:

See my paper: "Circumcision" for more information on this subject.

John 4:24 "God <is> a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship <him> in spirit and in truth." CORRECT MEANS OF WORSHIP.

Deuteronomy 30:6 "And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live."

Romans 2:29 "But he <is> a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision <is that> of the heart, in the spirit, <and> not in the letter; whose praise <is> not of men, but of God."

Ephesians 2:11 "Wherefore remember, that ye <being> in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;" FLESH = WORKS

Colossians 2:11-17 "In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: {12} Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with <him> through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. {13} And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; {14} Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; {15} <And> having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. {16} Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath <days>: {17} Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body <is> of Christ."

CIRCUMCISION FOR GENTILES SHOULD NOT BE OBSERVED OR FORCED, SINCE JESUS COMPLETED ALL THE LAW ON THE CROSS.  GENTILE, MAY BE CIRCUMCISED FOR HEALTYH REASONS IF THEY WISH.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(5) Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, {Philippians 3:8}

(6) And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: {Philippians 3:9}

PAUL'S EXPERIENCES BEFORE HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS:

Philippians 3:4 "Though I might also have [ confidence ] in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:"

Philippians 3:5 "Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, <of> the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;"

Circumcised eighth day ... tribe of Benjamin ... touching the law:

See my paper: "Israel & Jewish People in God's Plan" for more information on this subject.

Genesis 17:10-12 "This <is> my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. {11} And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. {12} And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which <is> not of thy seed."

Pharisees: Legalistic & separatistic group that kept the laws of Moses (613) and written traditions. They were also Rabbi’s and teachers of the law in synagogues.

See my paper: "Questions & Answers on Law, Faith, & Liberty" for more information on this subject.

Matthew 15:2 "Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread."

Mark 2:16 "And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?"

Philippians 3:6 "Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless."

Persecuting the church: Jewish zeal not according to God's word.

Galatians 1:13 "For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:"

Acts 7:52 "Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:"

1 Thessalonians 2:14-15 "For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they <have> of the Jews: {15} Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:"

1 Thessalonians 3:3-4 "That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. {4} For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know."

See my paper: "Sermon on the Mount" for more information on this subject.

(5) Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. {Philippians 3:12}

(7) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. {Philippians 3:14}

(11)  (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: {Philippians 3:18}

(12) Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) {Philippians 3:19}

(13) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: {Philippians 3:20}

(14) Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. {Philippians 3:21}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All things loss/dung ... know Jesus and win Christ:

Romans 3:1-2 "What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit <is there> of circumcision? {2} Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God."

Romans 10:1-4 "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. {2} For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. {3} For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. {4} For Christ <is> the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth."

Philippians 3:9 "And be found in /\ him /\, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the [ faith ] of T Christ T, the righteousness which is of /\ God /\ by faith:"

WAY: BE FOUND IN CHRIST, NOT HAVING OUR OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS, BY LAW, BUT BY FAITH

Be found in Him ... not my righteousness, which is of the law ... faith:

See my paper: "True Gospel for Salvation by the Imputed Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.

Philippians 3:10 "That I may [ know ] /\ him /\, and the power of his resurrection, and the [ fellowship ] of his [ suffering ], being made conformable unto his death;"

WANT: YOU KNOW CHRIST IN THE POWER OF HIS SUFFERINGS, DEATH, & RESURRECTION

That I may know Him ... power of His resurrection ... His sufferings:

See my paper: "Resurrection" for more information on this subject.

John 17:3 "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead:

See my paper: "Between Jesus Death & Resurrection What did He Accomplish?" for more information on this subject.

Revelation 20:4-6 "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and <I saw> the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received <his> mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. {5} But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This <is> the first resurrection. {6} Blessed and holy <is> he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." Few resurrected

Philippians 3:12 "Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of T Christ T M Jesus M."

WHILE: NOT AS I ATTAINED OR ALREADY PERFECT, BUT I FOLLOW AFTER TO APPREHEND

Not as I had already attained ... I follow after ... that I may apprehend

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 "Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. {25} And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they <do it> to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. {26} I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: {27} But I keep under my body, and bring <it> into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway."

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. {13} There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God <is> faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear <it>."

1 Thessalonians 2:12 "That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory."

2 Timothy 4:7-8 "I have fought a good fight, I have finished <my> course, I have kept the faith: {8} Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

Philippians 3:13 "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but <this> one thing <I do>, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,"

Philippians 3:14 "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of /\ God /\ in T Christ T M Jesus M." Prize = eternal life with God

Philippians 3:15 "Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus [ minded ]: and if in any thing ye be otherwise [ minded ], /\ God /\ shall reveal even this unto you." Perfect = mature

One thing I do, forget past ... reach forward ... price of Christ calling

See my paper: "Salvation Biblical Word Glossary" for more information on this subject.

Isaiah 43:25 "I, <even> I, <am> he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins."

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us <our> sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Philippians 3:16 "Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us [ mind ] the same thing." see 2:2.

Let us walk by the same rule:

Colossians 2:6  "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:"

See my paper: "Christian Growth" for more information on this subject.

Philippians 3:17 "Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample." Mark = note

Philippians 3:18 "(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, <that they are> the enemies of the cross of Christ:" Walk = life

Philippians 3:19 "Whose end <is> destruction, whose /\ God /\<is their> belly, and <whose> glory <is> in their shame, who [ mind ] earthly things.)"

Philippians 3:20 "For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M T Christ T:"

Our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for savior:

Conversation = citizenship

See my paper: "Jesus in the Old Testament" for more information on this subject.

Ephesians 1:3 "Blessed <be> the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly <places> in Christ:"

Philippians 3:21 "Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself."

Who shall change our vile body ... like unto His glorious body:

See my paper: "Body, Soul, & Spirit" for more information on this subject.

1 Corinthians 15:51-52 "Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, {52} In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."

Philippians 4:1 "Therefore, my brethren, dearly beloved and longed for, my [ joy ] and crown, so stand fast in the /\ Lord /\, <my> dearly beloved." Paul had a very close relationship to this church.

WHILE: STAND FAST IN THE LORD

My joy and crown:

1 Thessalonians 2:19-20 "For what <is> our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? <Are> not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? {20} For ye are our glory and joy."

VII) EXHORTATION: {PHILIPPIANS 4:2-9}

Philippians 4:2 "I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same [ mind ] in the /\ Lord /\." Same mind & agree

Euodias: Her name means sweet scent or smell. This is the only Biblical reference.

They be of the same mind:

1 Corinthians 1:10 "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and <that> there be no divisions among you; but <that> ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." Also see Philippians 2:2 and Philippians 3:16.

Syntyche: Her name means good luck or fortune. This is the only Biblical reference.

Philippians 4:3 "And I entreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the [ gospel ], with Clement also, and <with> other my [ fellowlabourers ], whose names <are> in the book of [ life ]."

Woman which laboured with me in the gospel: Yokefellow = equals.  Included in Romans 16 are several women in various ministries also.

Romans 16:1-2 "I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: {2} That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also."

Acts 21:9 "And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy." One of the woman ministries was prophesy.

Clement: His name means mild, good, modest, and merciful. This is the only Biblical reference. He wrote an epistle to Corinthians.

Philippians 4:4 "[ Rejoice ] in the /\ Lord /\ alway: <and> again I say, Rejoice."

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say rejoice:

Psalms 16:11 "Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence <is> fulness of joy; at thy right hand <there are> pleasures for evermore."

John 16:24 "Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full."

Romans 14:17 "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIST: CHRISTIAN'S VIEWPOINTS {PHILIPPIANS 4:5-4:8}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. {Philippians 4:5}

(2) Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. {Philippians 4:6}

(3) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. {Philippians 4:7}

(4) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. {Philippians 4:8}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philippians 4:5 "Let your moderation be [ known ] unto all men. The /\ Lord /\ <is> at hand."

Let your moderation be know unto all men: Moderation = gentleness

Titus 3:2 "To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, <but> gentle, showing all meekness unto all men."

James 3:17 "But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, <and> easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy."

Philippians 4:6 "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by [ prayer ] and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made [ known ] unto /\ God /\." Careful for nothing = be anxious about nothing.

WAY: IN EVERYTHING IN PRAYER, SUPPLICATION, & THANKSGIVING BY REQUESTS TO GOD

In everything by prayer in thanksgiving let your request be to God:

Ephesians 6:18 "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"

1 Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray without ceasing."

See my paper: "Prayer" for more information on this subject.

Philippians 4:7 "And the peace of /\ God /\, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and [ minds ] through T Christ T M Jesus M." Peace: see Philippians 1:2.

WHY: PEACE OF GOD KEEP YOUR HEARTS & MINDS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS

See my paper: "Preservation & Perseverance of the Elect" for more information on this subject.

Peace of God, pass all understanding, keep your hearts in Christ:

Isaiah 26:3 "Thou wilt keep <him> in perfect peace, <whose> mind <is> stayed <on thee>: because he trusteth in thee."

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Ephesians 3:19 "And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God."

CONCLUSION: FINALLY

Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things <are> honest, whatsoever things <are> just, whatsoever things <are> pure, whatsoever things <are> lovely, whatsoever things <are> of good report; if <there be> any virtue, and if <there be> any praise, think on these things."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WANT: WHAT THINGS ARE TRUE, HONEST, JUST, PURE, GOOD, & LOVELY THINK ON THESE

Whatsoever things are true, just, pure.. think on these things:

2 Peter 1:5-10 "And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; {6} And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; {7} And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. {8} For if these things be in you, and abound, they make <you that ye shall> neither <be> barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. {9} But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. {10} Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIST: PAUL'S CARES & NEEDS {PHILIPPIANS 4:9-4:13}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. {Philippians 4:9}

(2) But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. {Philippians 4:10}

(3) Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. {Philippians 4:11}

(4) I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. {Philippians 4:12}

(5) I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. {Philippians 4:13}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philippians 4:9 "Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the /\ God /\ of peace shall be with you." Paul's example is what we should follow.

VIII) CONCLUSIONS: {PHILIPPIANS 4:10-23}

Philippians 4:10 "But I [ rejoiced ] in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity."

Philippians 4:11 "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, <therewith> to be content."

I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, there to be content:

1 Thessalonians 5:18 "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

1 Timothy 6:8 "And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."

Philippians 4:12 "I [ know ] both how to be abased, and I [ know ] how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to [ suffer ] need."

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through T Christ T which strengtheneth me."

WAIT: I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHICH STRENGTHEN ME

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me:

See my paper: "Faith" for more information on this subject.

John 15:5 "I am the vine, ye <are> the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. {10} Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."

Philippians 4:14 "Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction."

Philippians 4:15 "Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the [ gospel ], when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only."

In the beginning of the gospel:

2 Corinthians 11:8  "I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service."

See my paper: "Gospel in the Genealogy of Adam" for more information on this subject.

No church communicated with me as concerning giving & receiving:

2 Corinthians 8:2-4 "How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. {3} For to <their> power, I bear record, yea, and beyond <their> power <they were> willing of themselves; {4} Praying us with much entreaty that we would receive the gift, and <take upon us> the fellowship of the ministering to the saints."

Philippians 4:16 "For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity." They sent gifts to Paul at least twice before.

Even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity:

2 Corinthians 9:7 "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, <so let him give>; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."

Philippians 4:17 "Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account."

Fruit that may abound to your account: Store in heavenly account.

2 Corinthians 5:10 "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things <done> in <his> body, according to that he hath done, whether <it be> good or bad."

Philippians 4:18 "But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things <which were sent> from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to /\ God /\."

Epaphroditus: His name means agreeable and handsome. Philippians has the only Biblical reference.  See Philippians 2:25 also.

Philippians 2:25  "Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants."

Philippians 4:19 "But my /\ God /\ shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by T Christ T M Jesus M."

WHAT: MY GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL YOUR NEED ACCORDING TO CHRIST RICHES IN GLORY

My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory:

Romans 2:4 "Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?"

2 Corinthians 9:8 "And God <is> able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all <things>, may abound to every good work:"

Philippians 4:20 "Now unto /\ God /\ and our /\ Father /\<be> glory for ever and ever. Amen."

Philippians 4:21 "Salute every saint in T Christ T M Jesus M. The brethren which are with me greet you." Saints: see Philippians 1:1.

Saint in Christ Jesus:

See my paper: "In-Christ" for more information on this subject.

Philippians 4:22 "All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar's household." Caesar's household = slaves/employees

Philippians 4:23 "The grace of our /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M T Christ T<be> with you all. Amen." Grace: see Philippians 1:2.
