SUPERIORITY OF THE PERSON OF CHRIST: {HEBREWS 1:1-4:16}
I) CHRIST IS SUPERIOR TO THE PROPHETS: {HEBREWS 1:1-3}
WHO: God WHOM: Fathers by prophets WHEN: In times past
Hebrews 1:1 "/\ God /\, /\ who /\ at sundry times & in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets," Progressive revelation
came from small (Obadiah: 1 chapter) to large (Isaiah: 66 chapters) or (Psalms: 150 Chapters) scripture over one thousands years period by ways (angels, kings, patriarchs, priests, prophets, and shepherds) in forms (laws, prophecies, types, visions, & writings).
Spake in time past by the prophets: See my paper: "Zephaniah" for a true & false prophet test. Receives both direct revelation and inspiration, from God, on behalf of the body. They were preachers of righteousness that foretell the future, edified, encourage, and strengthen. These spokesman, for God to people, presented messages that they are to live morally sound lives. Other names are Man of God, Messenger of Lord, and Seer (to see).
Acts 15:32 "And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed <them>."
1 Corinthians 14:29-32 "Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. {30} If <any thing> be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. {31} For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. {32} And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets."
1 Peter 1:10 "Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace <that should come> unto you:"
2 Peter 1:21 "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake <as they were> moved by the Holy Ghost." Prophets speak by the Holy Spirit's inspiration.
WHEN: Last days
Hebrews 1:2 "Hath in these last days spoken unto us by </\ his /\> M Son M , /\ whom /\ /\ he /\ hath appointed heir of all things, by M whom M also /\ he /\ made the worlds;" The last days included Jesus life on earth 2000 year ago.
See my paper: "End Time Events - Day of the Lord" for more information on this subject.
Last days: Refers to consummation of history and divine judgment. Here it is God's final triumph over evil. See also Hebrews 9:26.
Deuteronomy 4:30 "When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, <even> in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;"
Spoken unto us by his Son:
See my paper: "Jesus in the Old Testament" for more information on this subject.
John 3:30 "He must increase, but I <must> decrease." John saying Jesus (Jesus from New Testament) must increase, I (John from Old Testament) decrease.
Appointed heir of all things:
Psalms 2:8 "Ask of me, and I shall give <thee> the heathen <for> thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth <for> thy possession."
Romans 8:17 "And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with <him>, that we may be also glorified together."
By whom also he made the worlds: Jesus, God, is the creator.
See my paper: "Just Who is God?" for more information on this subject.
John 1:3 "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."
Colossians 1:16 "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether <they be> thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"
WHAT: God's Son who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person
Hebrews 1:3 " M Who M being the brightness of </\ his /\> { glory }, and the express image of /\ his /\ person, and upholding all things by the word of /\ his /\ power, when M he M had by M himself M purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the /\ Majesty /\ on high;"
Express image of his person: Person = substance which is the same Greek word found in Hebrews 11:1. This is the only reference to God as persons. God is spirit..
Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith and Jesus are real.
II) CHRIST IS SUPERIOR TO THE ANGELS: {HEBREWS 1:4-2:18}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY WORD: BETTER {Hebrews 1:4 - 12:24}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(4) For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did {Hebrews 7:19}
(5) By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament {Hebrews 7:22}
(6) A more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises {Hebrews 8:6}
(7) Patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these {Hebrews 9:23}
(8) Knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance {Hebrews 10:34}
(9) But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city {Hebrews 11:16}

(12) Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. {Hebrews 12:24}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hebrews 1:4 "Being made so much [ better ] than the [ angels ], as M he M hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they."
Made so much better than the angels: The Jew held the angels in high regards. The angel of the Lord, angel in giving the law, and Michael were the standards. Jesus as God is much better.
See my paper: "Jesus Life, Events, & Identity" for more information on this subject.
More excellent name than they: The Jewish name stood for the character of the person. See my papers: "Names of God" and "Just Who is God" for more information. Many names were changed to reflex the new person. Jesus name means savior in it is God's name.
Exodus 23:20-21 "Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. {21} Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name <is> in him." God's name is in Him (Jesus). Only God can pardon sins.
John 17:11 (New International version Bible) "I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name - The name you gave me - so that they may be one as we are one."
What is the name of the Father? Jesus
John 5:43 "I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive." Jesus came in His Father's name, Jesus, compared with other in his name.

(4) For men verily swear by the greater: & an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife {Hebrews 6:16}
(5) Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. {Hebrews 7:4}
(6) Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest {Hebrews 8:11}
(7) But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands {Hebrews 9:11}
(8) Remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions {Hebrews 10:32}
(9) Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward {Hebrews 10:35}
(10) Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had {Hebrews 11:26}
(11) Seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin {Hebrews 12:1}
(12) Brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant {Hebrews 13:20}

WHAT: How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first spoken by the Lord
Hebrews 2:3 "How shall we escape, if we neglect so [ great ] salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the /\ Lord /\, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard <M him M>;"
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation:
Matthew 22:5 "But they made light of <it>, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:"
2 Peter 1:12 "Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know <them>, and be established in the present truth."
WAY: God also bearing them witness, with signs, wonders, divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost
Hebrews 2:4 "/\ God /\ also bearing <them> witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the /\ Holy /\ /\ Ghost /\, according to /\ his /\ own will?"
God bearing them witness with signs & wonders, divers miracles:
1 Corinthians 12:10 "To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another <divers> kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:"
2 Corinthians 12:12 "Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds."
Gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will:
See my paper: "Holy Spirit Baptism " for more information on this subject.
1 Corinthians 12:11 "But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will."
See my paper: "God the Holy Spirit / Ghost Scriptures & Notes" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 2:5 "For unto the [ angels ] hath /\ he /\ not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak."
See my paper: "Jewish Bible Teachings on Heaven, Hell, & Spirit Beings" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 2:6 "But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the M son M of man, that thou visitest M him M?"
What is man .. thou art mindful of him .. Son of man .. thou visit him:
Psalms 8:4-6 "What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? {5} For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. {6} Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all <things> under his feet:"
Hebrews 2:7 "Thou madest M him M a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst M him M with { glory } and honour, and didst set M him M over the works of /\ thy /\ hands:"
Made him a little lower than the angels: Man is lower than the angels in the created order. Jesus was made in our likeness to die.
Philippians 2:7-8 "But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: {8} And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
Hebrews 2:8 "/\ Thou /\ hast put all things in subjection under M him M feet. For in that /\ he /\ put all in subjection under M him M, /\ he /\ left nothing <that is> not put under M him M. But now we see not yet all things put under /\ him /\."
Hebrews 2:9 "But we see M Jesus M, /\ who /\ was made a little lower than the [ angels ] for the suffering of death, crowned with { glory } and honour; that M he M by the [ grace ] of /\ God /\ should taste death for every man."
Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for death:
Romans 8:3 "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:"
Taste death for every man: Jesus died only for the Christians.
See my paper: "Is Free Will Biblical?" for more information on this subject.
Isaiah 53:11-12 "He shall see of the travail of his soul, <and> shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. {12} Therefore will I divide him <a portion> with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Only giving to those that believe.
WHY: Jesus brings many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect
Hebrews 2:10 "For it became M him M, for M whom M <are> all things, and by M whom M <are> all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation [ perfect ] through sufferings."
In bringing many sons unto glory:
See my paper: "Man's Greatest Need - Relationship with God" for more information on this subject.
Romans 8:29-30 "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate <to be> conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. {30} Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."
To make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings:
Perfect = mature or completed by trials, sufferings & growth.
Joshua 5:14 "And he said, Nay; but <as> captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?"
Hebrews 5:8-9 "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; {9} And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;"
Hebrews 2:11 "For both M he M that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified <are> all of one: for which cause M he M is not ashamed to call them brethren,"
Sanctified (holy): A person set apart for particular purpose.
2 Timothy 2:21 "If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, <and> prepared unto every good work."
All of one:
John 17:21-23 "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, <art> in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. {22} And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: {23} I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me."
Hebrews 2:12 "Saying, M I M will declare /\ thy /\ name unto M my M brethren, in the midst of the church will M I M sing praise unto /\ thee /\."
Hebrews 2:13 "And again, M I M will put my trust in him. And again, Behold M I M and the children which /\ God /\ hath given me."
WHILE: Through death Jesus destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil
Hebrews 2:14 "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, M he M also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death M he M might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;"
Children are partakers of flesh & blood, he took part of the same:
See my paper: "What is a Born-Again, & How to Become One?" for more information on this subject.
Matthew 16:17 "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed <it> unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven."
John 3:6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."
Hebrews 2:15 "And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."
Fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage:
Psalms 55:4 "My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me."
1 Corinthians 15:26 "The last enemy <that> shall be destroyed <is> death."
1 Corinthians 15:55-56 "O death, where <is> thy sting? O grave, where <is> thy victory? {56} The sting of death <is> sin; and the strength of sin <is> the law."
Hebrews 2:16 "For verily M he M took not on <M him M the nature of> [ angels ]; but M he M took on <M I M> the seed of Abraham."
He took on him the seed of Abraham:
See my paper: "Israel & Jewish People in God's Plan" for more information on this subject.
Genesis 4:25 "And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, <said she>, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew."
Genesis 9:9 "And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;"
Genesis 22:18 "And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice."
Hebrews 2:17 "Wherefore in all things it behoved M him M to be made like unto <M his M> brethren, that M he M might be a merciful and [ faithful ] high [ priest ] in things <pertaining> to /\ God /\, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people."
He might be a merciful and faithful high priest:
Mercy: Not getting what we deserve. It is not earned.
Ephesians 2:4 "But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,"
Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"
High Priest: The priest was a mediator between man and God. The High Priest would go alone, only on the day of atonement, into the Holy of Holies with a sacrifice for all Israel. He came from the family of Levi's of which Aaron was the first High Priest.
Zechariah 3:1 "And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him."
Hebrews 2:18 "For in that M he M M himself M hath suffered being tempted, M he M is able to succour them that are tempted."
III) CHRIST IS SUPERIOR TO MOSES: {HEBREWS 3:1-6}
Hebrews 3:1 "Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the [ heavenly ] calling, consider the Apostle and High [ priest ] of our profession, T Christ T M Jesus M;"
Apostle: An Apostle is one sent by God, with power of attorney and authority, to act (with power) in place of sender. He was chosen and ordained to the position to be a witness of what God shows him.
See my paper: "Apostles" for more information on this subject.
John 8:29 "And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him."
Hebrews 3:2 "M Who M was [ faithful ] to /\ him /\ that appointed M him M, as also Moses <was faithful> in all his house."
Moses: Moses was God's leader of Israel to bring them out of Egypt to the promise land. God gave him 10 miracles against Pharaoh. He was the law giver and writer of the first five books of the Old Testament.
See my paper: "Jesus as Prophet, Priest, & King" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 3:3 "For this <M man M> was counted worthy of more { glory } than Moses, inasmuch as M he M who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house."
Hebrews 3:4 "For every house is builded by some <man>; but /\ he /\ that built all things <is> /\ God /\."
Built house of all things is God:
See my paper: "The One God - The Shama" for more information on this subject.
1 Corinthians 8:6 "But to us <there is but> one God, the Father, of whom <are> all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom <are> all things, and we by him."
Colossians 1:17 "And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."
Hebrews 3:5 "And Moses verily <was> [ faithful ] in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;"
Hebrews 3:6 "But T Christ T as a M Son M over M his M own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end."
Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we:
The Christian shares in the life of Jesus by means of God dwelling in us and conforming us to his image. We share in Jesus life, sufferings, death, resurrection, glory, virtue, and godliness.
Acts 17:28 "For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."
Romans 6:3-5 "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? {4} Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. {5} For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also <in the likeness> of <his> resurrection:"
Ephesians 3:19 "And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God."
IV) CHRIST IS SUPERIOR IN HIS MINISTRY: {HEBREWS 3:7-4:16}
Hebrews 3:7 "Wherefore (as the /\ Holy /\ /\ Ghost /\ saith, To day if ye will hear M his M voice," Forty year punishment to Israel.
WHY: Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness
Hebrews 3:8 "Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:"
Harden not your hearts: See also Hebrews 3:15 & Hebrews 4:7.
See my paper: "Apostasy" for more information on this subject.
Exodus 17:7 "And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?"
Psalms 95:7-11 "For he <is> our God; and we <are> the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, {8} Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, <and> as <in> the day of temptation in the wilderness: {9} When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. {10} Forty years long was I grieved with <this> generation, and said, It <is> a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: {11} Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest."
Hebrews 3:9 "When your fathers tempted me, proved /\ me /\, and saw /\ my /\ works forty years."
Your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years:
The Jewish nation left Egypt by seeing the 10 plagues miracles of God. They also cross the red sea by a miracle of it parting. The people continued to murmured against God, Aaron and Moses. God granted them their death statement wish.
Numbers 14:2 "And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!"
Numbers 26:65 "For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun."
Hebrews 3:10 "Wherefore /\ I /\ was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in <their> heart; and they have not known /\ my /\ ways."
Hebrews 3:11 "So /\ I /\ sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into /\ my /\ rest.)"
They shall not enter into my rest:
God rested on the seventh day of creation. He gave a weekly rest Sabboth on Saturdays. He promises a rest from our labor, which is His completing the atonement for us. See also Hebrews 4:3-5.
Genesis 2:2-3 "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. {3} And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."
WHAT: Take heed, brother, if there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God
Hebrews 3:12 "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living /\ God /\."
WAY: Exhort one another daily, each day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin
Hebrews 3:13 "But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."
Hardened through the deceitfulness of sin:
See my paper: "Unpardonable Sin" for more information on this subject.
James 1:14-15 "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. {15} Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." Hardened starts with a temptation that could lead to death.
WAIT: We are made partakers of Christ
Hebrews 3:14 "For we are made partakers of T Christ T, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;"
We are made partakers of Christ:
Galatians 2:20 "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
2 Peter 1:4 "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."
Hebrews 3:15 "While it is said, To day if ye will hear /\ his /\ voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation." See Hebrews 3:8
Hebrews 3:16 "For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses."
Hebrews 3:17 "But with whom was /\ he /\ grieved forty years? <was it> not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?"
WHILE: To whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not
Hebrews 3:18 "And to whom sware /\ he /\ that they should not enter into /\ his /\ rest, but to them that believed not?"
Hebrews 3:19 "So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief."
We see that they could not enter in because of unbelief:
John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."
2 Corinthians 4:4 "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE
Hebrews 4:1 "[ Let us ] therefore fear, lest, a promise being left <us> of entering into /\ his /\ rest, any of you should seem to come short of it."
Hebrews 4:2 "For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with [ faith ] in them that heard <it>."
See my paper: "True Gospel for Salvation by the Imputed Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.
WHAT: we which have believed do enter into rest .. the works were finished from the foundation of the world
Hebrews 4:3 "For we which have believed do enter into rest, as /\ he /\ said, As I have sworn in /\ my /\ wrath, if they shall enter into /\ my /\ rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world."
We which believed do enter into rest; As I sworn my wrath: Heb 3:5
Joshua 1:13 "Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land."
Psalms 95:11 "Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest."
The works were finished from the foundation of the world:
See my paper: "Is Free Will Biblical?" for more information on this subject.
Ephesians 1:4 "According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:"
See my paper: "Some Saved and Some Lost God's Sovereignty" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "God Plans for His Purpose. Who Harden Pharaoh's Heart?" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 4:4 "For /\ he /\ spake in a certain place of the seventh <day> on this wise, And /\ God /\ did rest the seventh day from all his works."
God did rest the seventh day from all his works: See Hebrews 3:11
Hebrews 4:5 "And in this <place> again, If they shall enter into /\ my /\ rest."
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE
Hebrews 4:6 "Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:"
Hebrews 4:7 "Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear /\ his /\ voice, harden not your hearts." See Hebrews 3:8
Hebrews 4:8 "For if M Jesus M had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day."
If Jesus given them rest, would he not have spoken of another day:
Jesus here is Joshua of the Old Testament as in Joshua 1:13 above.
The another day is when Jesus came and fulfilled the law for us.
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE
Hebrews 4:9 "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of /\ God /\."
WAY: He that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did
Hebrews 4:10 "For he that is entered into /\ his /\ rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as /\ God /\ <did> from /\ his /\ ."
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE
Hebrews 4:11 "[ Let us ] labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief."
Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of /\ God /\ <is> quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and <is> a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
Word of God is quick, powerful, sharper than twoedged sword:
See my paper: "God's Word / Bible / Scriptures" for more information on this subject.
John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." The Word is Jesus.
1 Peter 1:23 "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
See my paper: "Bible Study & Interpretation Guideline" for more information on this subject.
Piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit: A person, soul, without a spirit is dead. The soul = body + spirit.
See my paper: "Body, Soul, & Spirit" for more information on this subject.
Luke 1:46-47 "And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, {47} And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour."
1 Corinthians 6:20 "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."
Hebrews 4:13 "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in /\ his /\ sight: but all things <are> naked and opened unto the eyes of /\ him /\ with whom we have to do."
WHY: That we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus, let us hold our profession.
Hebrews 4:14 "Seeing then that we have a [ great ] high [ priest ], that is passed into the [ heavens ], M Jesus M the M Son M of /\ God /\, [ let us ] hold fast <our> profession."
Hebrews 4:15 "For we have not an high [ priest ] which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as <we are>, <yet> without sin."
High priest cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities:
Philippians 2:7-8 "But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: {8} And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
In all points tempted like as we are yet without sin:
1 Peter 2:22 "Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:"
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE
Hebrews 4:16 "[ Let us ] therefore come boldly unto the throne of [ grace ], that we may obtain mercy, and find [ grace ] to help in time of need."
WHILE: Let us come boldly to the throne of grace, to obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need
Come boldly unto the throne of grace .. we may obtain mercy:
Grace: Getting what we do not deserve as compared with mercy: not getting what we deserve.
Lamentations 3:22 "<It is of> the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not."
Micah 7:18 "Who <is> a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth <in> mercy."
Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then <is it> no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if <it be> of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."
2 Corinthians 8:9 "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich."
Titus 3:7 "That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."
CHRIST PRIESTHOOD IS SUPERIOR TO ALL PRIESTS: {HEBREWS 5:1-10:39}
V) CHRIST IS SUPERIOR IN HIS QUALIFICATIONS: {HEBREWS 5:1-6:19}
WHILE:
Hebrews 5:1 "For every high [ priest ] taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to /\ God /\, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:"
See my paper: "Forgiveness of Sins" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 5:2 "Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity."
Hebrews 5:3 "And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins."
Hebrews 5:4 "And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of /\ God /\, as was Aaron."
WHAT: Thou art my M Son M, to day have I begotten thee
Hebrews 5:5 "So also T Christ T { glorified } not M himself M to be made an high [ priest ]; but /\ he /\ that said unto M him M, Thou art my M Son M, to day have I begotten thee."
Thou art my Son, today have I begotten thee: See Hebrews 1:5
Matthew 3:17 "And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Romans 1:4 "And declared <to be> the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:" Begotten (brought forth) Jesus in His resurrection.
WAY: Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec
Hebrews 5:6 "As he saith also in another place, Thou art a [ priest ] for ever after the order of [ Melchisedec ]."
Thou art a priest for ever after order of Melchisedec:
See my paper: "Melchisedec / Melchizedek" for more information on this subject.
See also Hebrews 5:10, 6:20, 7:1, 7:10-11, 7:15, 7:17 & 7:21
Genesis 14:18 "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God."
Psalms 110:4 "The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek."
WHEN: In the days of Jesus flesh
Hebrews 5:7 "Who in the days of M his M flesh, when M he M had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto /\ him /\ that was able to save M him M from death, and was heard in that M he M feared;"
Hebrews 5:8 "Though M he M were a Son, yet learned M he M obedience by the things which M he M suffered;"
Yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered:
Philippians 2:8 "And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, & became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross"
WHY: Being made perfect, Jesus became the author of eternal salvation
Hebrews 5:9 "And being made [ perfect ], M he M became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey M him M;"
Being made perfect: See Hebrews 2:10. Doing God's will which is the purpose of existing. Perfect = mature/complete through trials.
He became the author of eternal salvation unto all that obey him:
John 10:28 "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any <man> pluck them out of my hand."
Hebrews 5:10 "Called of /\ God /\ an high [ priest ] after the order of [ Melchisedec ]."
Hebrews 5:11 "Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing."
Hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing:
Matthew 13:13-15 "Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. {14} And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: {15} For this people's heart is waxed gross, and <their> ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with <their> eyes and hear with <their> ears, and should understand with <their> heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them."
Acts 28:27 "For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with <their> eyes, and hear with <their> ears, and understand with <their> heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them."
Hebrews 5:12 "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of /\ God /\; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat."
Ye ought to be teachers:
1 Corinthians 3:3 "For ye are yet carnal: for whereas <there is> among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?"
First principles of God .. need of milk, and not strong meat:
1 Corinthians 3:2 "I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able <to bear it>, neither yet now are ye able."
1 Peter 2:1-2 "Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, {2} As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:"
Hebrews 5:13 "For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of [ righteousness ]: for he is a babe."
See my paper: "Imputed / Reckoned / Counted Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 5:14 "But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE
Hebrews 6:1 "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of T Christ T, [ let us ] go on unto [ perfection ]; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of [ faith ] toward /\ God /\,"
Leaving the principles of doctrine of Christ .. go on to perfection:

Not laying foundation of repentance from dead works & of God faith:
Romans 3:21-22 "But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; {22} Even the righteousness of God <which is> by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:"

Hebrews 6:2 "Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment."
Doctrine of baptisms: One Baptism: 1 Corinthians 12:13 / Ephesians 4:5
See my paper: "Apostles Baptism" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Holy Spirit Baptism" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Many Baptisms Presented in the Bible" for more information on this subject.
The Bible refers to several baptisms: such as being baptized into Moses, Paul, John, Apollos, Jesus (Christ, body & Lord), and Holy Ghost (Spirit) baptisms. The Bible also refers to a baptism of fire and suffering. It alludes to a baptism for dead people. Webster's defines baptism to be an admittance, initiation, identification, experience, trial or test.
To baptize means to be immersed into or covered over with a substance. The person would go under the water to identify with Jesus' death and burial followed by His resurrected from the dead to a new life. This required a complete immersed washing not just a sprinkling.
Luke 12:50 "But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!" Jesus Baptism for His work.
Acts 1:5 "For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence." Two Baptisms
1 Corinthians 10:2 "And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;" Baptism into Moses ministry; See 1 Corinthians 1:12-13.
Laying on of hands:
Acts 6:6 "Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid <their> hands on them."
1 Timothy 4:14 "Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery." See also 2 Timothy 1:6

1 Corinthians 15:22 "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."
2 Corinthians 4:14 "Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present <us> with you."

Hebrews 9:27 "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"
Hebrews 6:3 "And this will we do, if /\ God /\ permit."
This will we do, if God permit:
See my paper: "Some Saved and Some Lost God's Sovereignty" for more information on this subject.
Acts 18:21 "But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus."
1 Corinthians 16:7 "For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit."
WHAT: It is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit
Hebrews 6:4 "For <it is> impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the [ heavenly ] gift, and were made partakers of the /\ Holy /\ /\ Ghost /\,"
It's impossible for those who enlightened, tasted of heavenly gift:
See my paper: "Unpardonable Sin" for more information on this subject.
See also Hebrews 10:26-29.
2 Peter 2:20 "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning."
2 Peter 2:21 "For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known <it>, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them."
Made partakers of the Holy Spirit: See my paper: "Holy Spirit Baptism" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Holy Spirit Baptism" for more information on this subject.

WHILE: Tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come
Hebrews 6:5 "And have tasted the good word of /\ God /\, and the powers of the world to come,"
Tasted the good word of God and powers of the world to come:
Psalms 34:8 "O taste and see that the LORD <is> good: blessed <is> the man <that> trusteth in him."
Revelation 2:26-27 "And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: {27} And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father."
WHY: If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance
Hebrews 6:6 "If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the M Son M of /\ God /\ afresh, and put <M him M> to an open shame."
WAY: Seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put <him> to an open shame
If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance:
1 Timothy 4:1 "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; {2} Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;"
Hebrews 6:7 "For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from /\ God /\:"
Hebrews 6:8 "But that which beareth thorns and briers <is> rejected, and <is> nigh unto cursing; whose end <is> to be burned."
NEW SUBJECT:
Hebrews 6:9 "But, beloved, we are persuaded [ better ] things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak."
WHAT: we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation
See my paper: "What is a Born-Again, and How to Become One?" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Justification" for more information on this subject.
WHILE: God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love
Hebrews 6:10 "For /\ God /\ <is> not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have showed toward /\ his /\ name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister."
See my paper: "Love" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 6:11 "And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:"
WAY: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith
Hebrews 6:12 "That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through [ faith ] and patience inherit the promises."
See my paper: "Preservation and Perseverance of the Elect" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 6:13 "For when /\ God /\ made promise to Abraham, because /\ he /\ could swear by no [ greater ], /\ he /\ sware by /\ himself /\,"
God could swear by no greater, he sware by himself:
Genesis 22:16-18 "And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only <son>: {17} That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which <is> upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; {18} And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice."
Hebrews 6:14 "Saying, Surely blessing /\ I /\ will bless thee, and multiplying /\ I /\ will multiply thee."
Hebrews 6:15 "And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise."
Hebrews 6:16 "For men verily swear by the [ greater ]: and an oath for confirmation <is> to them an end of all strife."
WHY: God willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel
Hebrews 6:17 "Wherein /\ God /\, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of /\ his /\ counsel, confirmed <it> by an oath:"
Hebrews 6:18 "That by two immutable things, in which <it was> impossible for /\ God /\ to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:"
Two immutable things: God promise (His word) and His oath
Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."
Impossible for God to lie:
Numbers 23:19 "God <is> not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do <it>? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"
Titus 1:2 "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;"
Hebrews 6:19 "Which <hope> we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;"
See my paper: "Entry into the Holy of Holies" for more information on this subject.
VI) CHRIST IS SUPERIOR IN HIS PRIEST ORDER: {HEBREWS 6:20-8:5}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY WORD: MELCHISEDEC {Hebrews 5:6 - 7:21}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec {Hebrews 5:6}
(2) Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec {Hebrews 5:10}
(3) Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec {Hebrews 6:20}
(4) For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him {Hebrews 7:1}
(5) For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him {Hebrews 7:10}
(6) What further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? {Hebrews 7:11}
(7) And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest {Hebrews 7:15}
(8) For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec {Hebrews 7:17}
(9) The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec {Hebrews 7:21}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hebrews 6:20 "Whither the forerunner is for us entered, <even> M Jesus M, made an high [ priest ] for ever after the order of [ Melchisedec ]."
WHAT: Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham & blessed him
Hebrews 7:1 "For this [ Melchisedec ], king of Salem, [ priest ] of the most high /\ God /\, M who M met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;"
Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God:. See also Hebrews 5:6, 5:10, 6:20, 7:1, 7:10-11, 7:15, 7:17 & 7:21
See my paper: "Melchisedec / Melchizedek" for more information on this subject.
Melchisedec is a 7 fold type of Christ: 1) Genealogy (Hebrews 7:3, 6); 2) Sacrifice; 3) Endless Priesthood (Psalms 110 & Hebrews 5:10, 6:20, 7:3, 7:17, 7:21, & 7:23-28); 4) King Priest (Hebrews 7:1); 5) Greater than Abraham (John 8:55-59 & Hebrews 7:4-8); 6) King of Righteousness (Hebrews 7:2); & 7) King of Peace (Hebrews 7:2)
Genesis 14:18 "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God."
Zechariah 6:12-13 "And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name <is> The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: {13} Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both." Judaism had the Levi tribe for priests & Judah tribe for kings. Jesus was born out of Judah.
Hebrews 7:2 "To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of [ righteousness ], and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;"
Abraham gave a tenth part of all: The tithe is strongly suggested my many churches as a minimum for each person to give. This is law.
Giving to get is works. We give out of love and guidance from God.
God wants our all. He is Lord of our life & will direct his church.
Genesis 14:18-20 "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he <was> the priest of the most high God. {19} And he blessed him, and said, Blessed <be> Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: {20} And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all." The tithe & sacrifice was before Moses.
Exodus 22:29 "Thou shalt not delay <to offer> the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me."
Malachi 3:10-11 "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that <there shall> not <be room> enough <to receive it>. {11} And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts."
Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." Liberty from the law & love above all other things.
WAY: Having no beginning of days, nor end of life made like unto the Son of God abides a priest continually
Hebrews 7:3 "Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the M Son M of /\ God /\; abideth a [ priest ] continually."
Without father, mother, descent .. neither beginning or end of days:
Only God and Adam meet this scripture statement.
Micah 5:2 "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, <though> thou be little among the thousands of Judah, <yet> out of thee shall he come forth unto me <that is> to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth <have been> from of old, from everlasting."
Revelation 22:13 "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last."
Abideth a priest continually: See also Hebrews 6:20
Psalms 110:4 "The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek."
Hebrews 7:4 "Now consider how [ great ] this M man M was>, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils."
How great this man was:
John 8:56-58 "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw <it>, and was glad. {57} Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? {58} Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."
Hebrews 7:5 "And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the [ priesthood ], have a [ commandments ] to take tithes of the people according to the [ law ], that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:"
Hebrews 7:6 "But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed M him M that had the promises."
Son of Levi who gave tithes by Abraham: See Hebrews 7:9 below.
Romans 5:12-14 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: {13} (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. {14} Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come." The character & benefits pass through genes.
Hebrews 7:7 "And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the [ better ]." Melchizedek (Jesus) is greater than Abraham.
Hebrews 7:8 "And here men that die receive tithes; but there M he M <receiveth them>, of whom it is witnessed that M he M liveth."
Hebrews 7:9 "And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham."
Hebrews 7:10 "For he was yet in the loins of his father, when [ Melchisedec ] met M him M."
Levi, who received tithes, payed tithes in Abraham .. He was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him: See Hebrews 7:6
Numbers 14:18 "The LORD <is> longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing <the guilty>, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth <generation>." Carry by the genes.
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE
Hebrews 7:11 "If therefore [ perfection ] were by the Levitical [ priesthood ], (for under it the people received the [ law ],) what further need <was there> that another [ priest ] should rise after the order of [ Melchisedec ], and not be called after the order of Aaron?"
WHY: If perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, what further need was there that another priest
Hebrews 7:12 "For the [ priesthood ] being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law."
Hebrews 7:13 "For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar."
Hebrews 7:14 "For <it is> evident that our /\ Lord /\ sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning [ priesthood ]."
Our Lord sprang out of Juda .. nothing concerning priesthood:
Isaiah 11:1 "And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:" See Hebrews 7:1
Matthew 2:6 "And thou Bethlehem, <in> the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
Hebrews 7:15 "And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of [ Melchisedec ] there ariseth another [ priest ],"
Hebrews 7:16 "Who is made, not after the [ law ] of a carnal [ commandment ], but after the power of an endless life."
See my paper: "Questions and Answers on Law, Faith, & Liberty" for more information on this subject.

Hebrews 7:18 "For there is verily a disannulling of the [ commandment ] going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof."
Hebrews 7:19 "For the [ law ] made nothing [ perfect ], but the bringing in of a [ better ] hope <did>; by the which we draw nigh unto /\ God /\."
The law made nothing perfect: Perfect = mature or completed

Romans 10:4 "For Christ <is> the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth."
Galatians 3:23-25 "But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. {24} Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster <to bring us> unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. {25} But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster."
Hebrews 7:20 "And inasmuch as not without an oath <M he M was made> [ priest ]:"
Hebrews 7:21 "(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by /\ him /\ that said unto M him M, The /\ Lord /\ sware and will not repent, Thou <art> a [ priest ] for ever after the order of [ Melchisedec ]:)"
WHY: By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament
Hebrews 7:22 "By so much was M Jesus M made a surety of a [ better ] [ testament ]."
Jesus made a surety of a better testament:

Hebrews 8:5 "M Who M serve unto the example and shadow of [ heavenly ] things, as Moses was admonished of /\ God /\ when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith /\ he /\, <that> thou make all things according to the pattern showed to thee in the mount."Exodus 25:40
VII) CHRIST IS SUPERIOR IN HIS NEW COVENANT: {HEBREWS 8:6-10:39}
Hebrews 8:6 "But now hath M he M obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also M he M is the mediator of a [ better ] [ covenant ], which was established upon better promises."
He obtained a more excellent ministry:
See my paper: "God's Dispensation & Covenant Plans" for more information on this subject.
2 Corinthians 3:6-9 "Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. {7} But if the ministration of death, written <and> engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which <glory> was to be done away: {8} How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? {9} For if the ministration of condemnation <be> glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory."
He is mediator of a better covenant upon better promises: Hebrews 12:24
1 Timothy 2:5 "For <there is> one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;"
WHY: If that first <covenant> had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second
Hebrews 8:7 "For if that first <covenant> had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second."
WHAT: The days come when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah

WAY: I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
Hebrews 8:10 "For this <is> the [ covenant ] that /\ I /\ will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the /\ Lord /\; /\ I /\ will put my [ laws ] into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and /\ I /\ will be to them a /\ God /\, and they shall be to me a people:"

Micah 7:19 "He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea."
WHEN: A new covenant God has made the first old that decays and waxs old <is> ready to vanish away
Hebrews 8:13 "In that /\ he /\ saith, A new < [ covenant ] >, /\ he /\ hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old <is> ready to vanish away."

Leviticus 16:33-34 "And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation. {34} And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses."
WHERE: The way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while the first tabernacle was yet standing

WHAT: But Christ being come an high priest of good things by a greater & more perfect tabernacle, not made
Hebrews 9:11 "But T Christ T being come an high [ priest ] of good things to come, by a [ greater ] and more [ perfect ] tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;"
Christ become high priest .. more perfect tabernacle not made by hand
More perfect tabernacle is heaven. See Hebrews 8:2 & Hebrews 9:24
Hebrews 9:12 "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by M his M own blood M he M entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption <for us>."
Not blood of goats, but by his own blood he entered into holy place
1 Peter 1:18-19 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, <as> silver and gold, from your vain conversation <received> by tradition from your fathers; {19} But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:"
Hebrews 9:13 "For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:"
WAY: The blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God

1 Peter 4:1 "Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;"
WHY: He is the mediator of the new testament, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions
Hebrews 9:15 "And for this cause M he M is the mediator of the new [ testament ], that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions <that were> under the first [ testament ], they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance."
Hebrews 9:16 "For where a testament <is>, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator." Similar to will for dead.

Hebrews 9:22 "And almost all things are by the [ law ] purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission."
Almost all things purge .. without shedding of blood is no remission:
Leviticus 17:11 "For the life of the flesh <is> in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood <that> maketh an atonement for the soul"
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE
Hebrews 9:23 "<It was> therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the [ heavenly ] things themselves with [ better ] sacrifices than these."
WHILE: Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, the figures of the true into heaven itself
Hebrews 9:24 "For T Christ T is not entered into the holy places made with hands, <which are> the figures of the true; but into [ heaven ] itself, now to appear in the presence of /\ God /\ for us:"
Christ is not entered into holy place made with hands but heaven:
Exodus 25:8-9 "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. {9} According to all that I show thee, <after> the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make <it>."
Hebrews 9:25 "Nor yet that M he M should offer M himself M often, as the high [ priest ] entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;"
The high priest entered holy place every year with blood of others:
Animal sacrifice for the sins of the people.
WHEN: But now once in the end of the world hath M he M appeared to put away sin
Hebrews 9:26 "For then must M he M often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath M he M appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of M himself M" Hebrews 4:3

It is appointed unto men once to die, after this the judgment:
See my paper: "Judgments of Believer & Unbeliever" for more information on this subject.

Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many:
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
WHY: Law having a shadow of good things to come, with those sacrifices offered year by year make perfect
Hebrews 10:1 "For the [ law ] having a shadow of good things to come, <and> not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto [ perfect ]."
Law having a shadow of good things to come & not the very image:
Romans 7:4 "Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, <even> to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God."
Romans 8:2-4 "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. {3} For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: {4} That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
Hebrews 10:2 "For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins."
No more conscience of sins:
2 Corinthians 3:17 "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord <is>, there <is> liberty."

Hebrews 10:3 "But in those <sacrifices there is> a remembrance again <made> of sins every year."
Hebrews 10:4 "For <it is> not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins."
Yearly sacrifices of blood of bulls not possible take away sins:
The Jew was forgiven of his sin. Only Jesus sacrifice removed sin.
Hosea 6:6 "For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Hebrews 10:5 "Wherefore when M he M cometh into the world, M he M saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared M me M:"

Hebrews 10:9 "Then said M he M, Lo, M I M come to do /\ thy /\ will, O /\ God /\. /\ He /\ taketh away the first, that /\ he /\ may establish the second."
WAY: By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all
Hebrews 10:10 "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of M Jesus M T Christ T once <for all>."
WHILE: Every priest stands daily ministering & offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins
Hebrews 10:11 "And every [ priest ] standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:" See Hebrews 10:4
Hebrews 10:12 "But this man, after M he M had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of /\ God /\;"
Hebrews 10:13 "From henceforth expecting till /\ his /\ enemies be made /\ his /\ footstool."
See my paper: "Messianic Prophecies that Jesus Fulfilled" for more information on this subject.
WHAT: By one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified
Hebrews 10:14 "For by one offering M he M hath [ perfected ] for ever them that are sanctified."
By one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified:
The term sanctify means to be set apart, consecrated, dedicated and separated for a special purpose, function or use. A derived (not scriptural) meaning is to be holy and pure. In the Old Testament the word was used with prostitutes as set apart for evil. Sanctified is what a believer is; perfected is what he is to be.
John 19:30 "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
1 Thessalonians 4:3 "For this is the will of God, <even> your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:"
Hebrews 10:15 "<Whereof> the /\ Holy /\ /\ Ghost /\ also is a witness to us: for after that /\ he /\ had said before,"
See my paper: "God the Holy Spirit / Ghost Scriptures & Notes" for more information on this subject.
WHEN: This <is> the covenant I will make with them after those days when I will put my laws into their hearts
Hebrews 10:16 "This <is> the [ covenant ] that /\ I /\ will make with them after those days, saith the /\ Lord /\, I will put my [ laws ] into their hearts, and in their minds will /\ I /\ write them;"
Hebrews 10:17 "And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more." See also Hebrews 8:12
Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more: Jeremiah 31:34

Micah 7:19 "He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea." See also Hebrews 8:12
Hebrews 10:18 "Now where remission of these <is>, <there is> no more offering for sin."
Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin:
Romans 10:4 "For Christ <is> the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." Nothing else is required, but faith.
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE
Hebrews 10:19 "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of M Jesus M,"
See my paper: "Entry into the Holy of Holies" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 10:20 "By a new and living way, which M he M hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, M his M flesh;"

Hebrews 10:22 "[ Let us ] draw near with a true heart in full assurance of [ faith ], having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water."
Our hearts sprinkled .. our bodies washed with pure water:
See my paper: "Faith" for more information on this subject.
John 13:8-10 "Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. {9} Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also <my> hands and <my> head. {10} Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash <his> feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all."
Hebrews 10:23 "[ Let us ] hold fast the profession of <our> [ faith ] without wavering; (for he <is> [ faithful ] that promised;)"
NEW SUBJECT:
Hebrews 10:24 "And [ let us ] consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:"
WHEN: As you see the day approaching
Hebrews 10:25 "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some <is>; but exhorting <one another>: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves:
Acts 2:42 "And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." 2 Timothy 4:16 "At my first answer no man stood with me, but all <men> forsook me: <I pray God> that it may not be laid to their charge."
WHAT: If we sin wilfully, after we receive the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins
Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"
If we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge:
This is a sin of apostasy. An example could be Judas Iscariot.
Numbers 15:30-31 "But the soul that doeth <ought> presumptuously, <whether he be> born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. {31} Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity <shall be> upon him."

Matthew 27:4-5 "Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What <is that> to us? see thou <to that>. {5} And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself." WAY: A certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries
Hebrews 10:27 "But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries."
Hebrews 10:28 "He that despised Moses' [ law ] died without mercy under two or three witnesses:"
Under two or three witnesses: Related are Numbers 35:30 & Job 33:14

2 Corinthians 13:1 "This <is> the third <time> I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established."
1 Timothy 5:19 "Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses."
WHY: Much sorer punishment who has trodden under foot the Son of God & counted covenant an unholy thing
Hebrews 10:29 "Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the /\ Son /\ of /\ God /\, and hath counted the blood of the [ covenant ], wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the /\ Spirit /\ of [ grace ]?"
Who has trodden under foot the Son of God: See also Hebrews 6:6

2 Peter 2:20-21 "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. {21} For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known <it>, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them."
Hebrews 10:30 "For we know him that hath said, Vengeance <belongeth> unto me, /\ I /\ will recompense, saith the /\ Lord /\. And again, The /\ Lord /\ shall judge /\ his /\ people."
Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord:
See my paper: "Judgment of Believer & Unbeliever" for more information on this subject.

See my paper: "Jesus Two Comings as King" for more information on this subject.
Hebrews 10:38 "Now the just shall live by [ faith ]: but if <any man> draw back, /\ my /\ soul shall have no pleasure in him."
The just shall live by faith:
See my paper: "Justification of Faith - Old Testament Doctrine" for more information on this subject.
Just: How can a righteous, holy God forgive sinners and accept them as if they never sinned? God performed a legal and formal acquittal from guilt to the believer. He declared us to be righteous by imputation.
Imputed: God reckon to us, account us, & attributed to us
See my paper: "Imputed / Reckoned / Counted Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.
His righteous. It does not imply a transfer of moral qualities but credits us with Jesus righteous as our innocent substitute. Jesus fulfilled the law & His payment of our debt was reckon to us.

Romans 3:27-28 "Where <is> boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. {28} Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." The law shows sin. The faithful man is imputed righteous.
Galatians 3:11 "But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, <it is> evident: for, The just shall live by faith."
Hebrews 10:39 "But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul."

VIII) CHRIST IS SUPERIOR IN FAITHFULNESS: {HEBREWS 11:1-12:4}
Chapter 11 is the faith chapter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY WORD: FAITH {Hebrews 4:2 - 13:7}

WHY: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen
Hebrews 11:1 "Now [ faith ] is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, evidence of unseen:
Faith: Faith is not the same as hope. Hope is wishing for something. Faith is having it in a faith dimension. When God reveals (manifests) it to this dimension is up to Him. We are to believe, when we pray, that the answer has already occurred. Future prayers are thanksgiving & praise for God's gift we already have in faith.
Mark 11:22-24 "And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. {23} For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. {24} Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive <them>, and ye shall have <them>."
Romans 14:23 "And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because <he eateth> not of faith: for whatsoever <is> not of faith is sin."
The just shall live by his faith: The correct Hebrew is:
"The righteous man shall live by his faithfulness"
The results of faith:
Genesis 15:6 "And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness." 1st he = Abraham/us & 2nd he = God.
Psalms 106:31 "And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore." His faith is counted as right.
Romans 4:2-3 "For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath <whereof> to glory; but not before God. {3} For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness."
James 2:17-18 "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. {18} Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works."
James 2:23 "And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God."
Hebrews 11:2 "For by it the elders obtained a good report."
WAY: Through faith by the word of God things which are seen were not made of things which do appear
Hebrews 11:3 "Through [ faith ] we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of /\ God /\, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." Creation was done by God's word.
Hebrews 11:4 "By [ faith ] Abel offered unto /\ God /\ a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was [ righteous ], /\ God /\ testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh." Abel being dead yet his offering speaketh.
Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain:

And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: {5} But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell."
Hebrews 11:5 "By [ faith ] Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because /\ God /\ had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased /\ God /\."
Enoch was translated that he should not see death:
