This paper discusses the book of Galatians. The book of Galatians has been compared with the Magna Charta. In this case, the church gets its liberty. The epistle has been written against the teachings of the Judaizer’s who insist that Gentiles (Galatians 1:6-8, 2:16, 5:1-4) must keep the ceremonial laws for their salvation. All scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.

LOCATION:

Galatia:  A region in Asia Minor, settled by an ancient tribes Gaul, from which it derives its name.  Caesar Augustus established the Roman province of Galatia, annexing a number of cities to the province.

WHO: PAUL, AN APOSTLE

Galatians 1:1 "Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by M Jesus M T Christ T, and /\ God /\ the /\ Father /\, who raised T him T from the dead)"

Paul: Saul means asked for and Paul means little or small. Apostles started many churches and appointed Elders to the church. He care for the church is of more importance.

Apostle: An Apostle is one sent by God, with power of attorney and authority, to act (with power) in place of sender. He was chosen and ordained to the position to be a witness of what God shows him.

1 Corinthians 9:1-2 "Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord? {2} If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord."

2 Corinthians 12:12 "Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

Galatians 2:8 "(For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)"

Jesus Christ and God the Father: God is a triunity. God can not be divided. Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are the way the one God reveals himself. If one sees Jesus, he also sees the Father and the Holy Spirit at the same time since God can not be separated (Colossians 1:15). Jesus is perfect man and God.

Galatia: French invaded Greece in Asia Minor and the land was a mixture of many races including Jews. Paul made his second missionary journey to the area & helped form the Galatians church.

Galatians 1:3 "[ Grace ] <be> to you and peace from /\ God /\ the /\ Father /\, and <from> our /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M T Christ T," Opening prayer Galatians 1:3-5

Grace: Getting what we do not deserve as compared with mercy: not getting what we deserve.

Peace: Hebrew word Shalom used for hello, goodbye & God bless you. Only God gives peace to ones spirit of forgiveness & restoration.

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Philippians 4:7 "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Peace the opposite to anxiety. Tranquillity & worry free.

Present evil world:

Galatians 1:9 "As we said before, so say I now again, If any <man> preach any other [ gospel ] unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." Accused also means eternally condemned.

Galatians 1:10 "For do I now persuade men, or /\ God /\? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of T Christ T."

Do I now persuade men, or God or do I seek to please men?:

1 Corinthians 10:33 "Even as I please all <men> in all <things>, not seeking mine own profit, but the <profit> of many, that they may be saved."

Galatians 1:11 "But I certify you, brethren, that the [ gospel ] which was preached of me is not after man."

The gospel which was preached of me:

Romans 10:14 "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?"

Galatians 1:12 "For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught <it>, but by the revelation of M Jesus M T Christ T."

Received not by man or was taught by man but by revelation of Jesus

Ephesians 3:2-6 "If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: {3} How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, {4} Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) {5} Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; {6} That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:" Church = mystery of Old Testament

I persecuted the church of God:

Acts 9:21 "But all that heard <him> were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?" Saul's prior reputation.

Acts 26:4-5 "My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;"

Acts 26:10-11 "Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against <them>. {11} And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled <them> to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted <them> even unto strange cities."

Galatians 1:14 "And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers." Traditions may not have been from God.

Matthew 15:2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

Philippians 3:4-7 "Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: {5} Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, <of> the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; {6} Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. {7} But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ."

James is the author of the first book of New Testament written in 45 AD. Galatians was second book written. James was a leader of Church. James is from Greek form Hebrew Jacob & means supplanter.

James 1:1 "James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting."

Jesus had brothers and sisters:

Matthew 13:55-57 "Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? {56} And his sisters, are they not all with us? Galatians 2:1 "Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with <me> also." See Acts 15:1-29

Barnabas: His name means son of encouragement or consolation. He is Mark's uncle. He had boldness to bring Paul to disciples.

Acts 4:36 "And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, <and> of the country of Cyprus,"

Acts 9:27 "But Barnabas took him, and brought <him> to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus."

Acts 12:25 "And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled <their> ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark."

Titus: Paul wrote the epistle of Titus to him. His name means honorable. He was an apostle with the task of ordaining elders. He was a gentile Greek who Paul did not have circumcised.

Acts 14:23 "And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed."

2 Corinthians 8:23 "Whether <any do inquire> of Titus, <he is> my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren <be inquired of>, <they are> the messengers of the churches, <and> the glory of Christ." Messengers = apostles. See my paper on apostles.

John: One of the twelve disciples. John means lord of grace. He wrote the books of John, 1st - 3th John, and Revelation. John, in his books, refers to himself as the elder. He was exiled to Palmos. This is the only mention of John in Paul's epistles.

Revelation 1:9 "I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ."

3 John 1: "The elder unto the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth." Truth = Jesus (John 14:6)

Colossians 2:16-17 "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath <days>: {17} Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body <is> of Christ." Christian is to worship everyday.
