RETURN TO THE: BIBLE PAPERS HOME PAGE:
This paper discusses the book of Ephesians. Ephesians' is the first of
Paul's prison epistles with Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon being the

mystery in Ephesians: the church. All scriptures are from the King James'
version Bible.
EPHESIAN'S THEME:
- GOD GATHERS TOGETHER IN ONE ALL THINGS IN
CHRIST IN HEAVEN & ON EARTH.
Ephesians 1:10 "That
in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might
gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven,
and which are on earth; even in him:"
- PERFECT SAINTS FOR MINISTRY & UNITY OF
THE FAITH.
Ephesians 4:12-13 "For
the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the
edifying of the body of Christ: {13} Till we all come in the unity of
the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect
man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness
of Christ:"

SCRIPTURE REFERENCES
Acts 18:19
"And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the
synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. {20} When
they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;
{21} But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this
feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but
I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus."
Acts 19:1-6, "And it came to
pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the
upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, {2} He
said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
And they said unto him, We have not so much
as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. {3} And
he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto
John's baptism. {4} Then said Paul, John verily
baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that
they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on
Christ Jesus. {5} When they heard this, they
were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. {6} And
when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and
they spake with tongues, & prophesied."
Acts 19:8-13, 17-19, 26, 34
"And he went into the
synagogue, and spake boldly for the
space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning
the kingdom of God. {9} But when divers were hardened, and believed
not, but spake evil of that way before the
multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples,
disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
{10} And this continued by the space of two years;
so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
{11} And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: {12} So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs
or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil
spirits went out of them. {13} Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists,
took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord
Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. {17} And this
was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the
Lord Jesus was magnified. {18} And many
that believed came, and confessed, and showed their deeds. {19}
Many of them also which used curious arts
brought their books together, and burned them before all men:
and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces
of silver. {26} Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at
Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded
and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which
are made with hands: {34} But when they knew that he was a Jew, all
with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of
the Ephesians."
Acts 20:16-18 "For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for
he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
{17} And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. {18} And when
they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first
day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all
seasons,"
Revelation 2:1-6 "Unto
the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks {2} I
know thy works, and thy labour, and thy
patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou
hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and
hast found them liars: {3} And hast borne, and hast patience, and for
my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not
fainted. {4} Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because
thou hast left thy first love. {5} Remember therefore from whence thou
art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I
will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his
place, except thou repent. {6} But this thou hast, that
thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes,
which I also hate."
LOCATION
Ephesus: An important Roman
city in western Asia minor, now Turkey. The city had a major banking area and had the temple of Antemis (Diana: the bright one). It was a magnificent structure
ranked as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The figure also was on the Roman coins.
In Revelation 2:1-2:7
Jesus said they lost their first love. Their have done good
also: works, labor, patience, not faint, can not bear evil men, hate Nicolatitians & tried apostles who are fakes. God told
them to repent & do 1st works, they eat of tree of life in midst of
paradise of God; or he remove candlestick.

Paul: Saul: means asked for, and Paul: means little or small. Paul is
in Rome in prison, but his care for
the church is of most importances. He does believe he
will leave the prison as he said that he be coming to them in Philemon
22 & Philippians 1:26 & 2:24. Paul had never been in Colosse
and on his fourth missionary journey he finally went there. Paul had been to Ephesus
a few times and spent two years there (Acts 19:10)
on his third missionary journey.
Apostle: An Apostle is one sent by God, with power of
attorney and authority, to act (with power) in place of sender. He
was chosen and ordained to the position to be a witness of what
God shows him.

Ephesians 1:2 "[ Grace ] <be>
to you, and [ peace
], from /\ God /\ our /\ Father /\, and <from> the /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M T Christ T."
Grace: Getting what we do not deserve. It is a gift (Romans 5:15).
We are saved by grace (Acts 15:11).
It is given freely by God (Psalms 84:11). Grace grows by knowledge of Jesus (2
Peter 3:18) & humility (James
4:6 & 1 Peter 5:5).
James 4:6 "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth
grace unto the humble."

KEY WORD: GRACE {EPHESIANS
1:2-6:24}
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) Grace be to you,
and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus
Christ. {Ephesians 1:2}
(2) To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein
he hath made us accepted in the beloved. {Ephesians 1:6}
(3) In whom we have redemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
{Ephesians 1:7}
(4) Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened
us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
{Ephesians 2:5}
(5) That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding
riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
{Ephesians 2:7}
(6) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
{Ephesians 2:8}
(7) If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of
God which is given me to you-ward: {Ephesians 3:2}
(8) Whereof I was made a minister, according to the
gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
{Ephesians 3:7}
(9) Unto me, who am less than the least of all
saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the
Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
{Ephesians 3:8}
(10) But unto every one of us is given grace according to
the measure of the gift of Christ. {Ephesians 4:7}
(11) Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your
mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may
minister grace unto the hearers. {Ephesians 4:29}
(12) Grace be
with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.
{Ephesians 6:24}
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
mercy: not getting what we deserve.
It is not earned.
Titus 3:5 "Not by works
of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved
us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"
Peace: Hebrew word Shalom used for hello, good-bye & God bless
you.
Only God gives peace to ones spirit of forgiveness & restoration.
John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as
the world giveth, give I
unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be
afraid."
Philippians 4:7 "And the peace
of God, which passeth all understanding, shall
keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Peace the opposite
to anxiety. Tranquillity & worry free.
God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: God is a Triunity. God can
not be divided. Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are the way the one God reveals
himself. If one sees Jesus, he also sees the Father and the Holy Spirit at the
same time since God can not be separated (Colossians 1:15). Jesus is perfect man and perfect God.
See my paper: "Triunity -
Father, Son, & Holy Spirit" for more information on this subject.
John 14:9-10 "Jesus
saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you,
and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he
that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest
thou <then>, Show us the Father? {10} Believest
thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the
words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."
Colossians 2:9 "For in
him dwelleth all the fulness
of the Godhead bodily."
1 John 2:22-23 "Who is a
liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ?
He is antichrist, that denieth
the Father and the Son. {23} Whosoever denieth
the Son, the same hath not the Father: <(but>)
<he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father
also>."

LIST: GOD'S
PLAN FOR THE CHRISTIAN {EPHESIANS 1:3-14}
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in
heavenly places in Christ {Ephesians 1:3}
(2) According as he hath chosen us in him before the
foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before
him in love: {Ephesians 1:4}
(3) Having predestinated us unto the adoption of
children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his
will, {Ephesians 1:5}
(4) To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein
he hath made us accepted in the beloved. {Ephesians 1:6}
(5) In whom we have redemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; {Ephesians
1:7}
(6) Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom
and prudence; {Ephesians 1:8}
(7) Having made known unto us the mystery of his will,
according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
{Ephesians 1:9}
(8) That in the dispensation of the fulness
of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both
which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in
him: {Ephesians 1:10}
(9) In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being
predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh
all things after the counsel of his own will: {Ephesians 1:11}
(10) That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. {Ephesians 1:12}
(11) In whom ye also trusted, after
that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in
whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, {Ephesians 1:13}
(12) Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the
redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
{Ephesians 1:14}
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
II) BELIEVER'S POSITION: CHOSEN, SEALED, SAVED, UNITED, EQUAL: {EPHESIANS 1:3-3:21}
A) CHOSEN AND SEALED:
{EPHESIANS 1:3-23}
Chosen by God, not from any good in us (Psalms 14:1-3, Isaiah 53:6, 64:6, Romans 3:10-11) but of His grace
to choose (Ephesians 2:8-9). He did not look down the ages to see who
would understand or response to his grace since we are all equally sinners
(Romans 3:9, James 2:10).
It is not our works but of His will (Ephesians 1:4-5
also see the entire Romans 9 chapter). Man
deserves death and hell with separation from God for his sins. God's love and grace
has saved some. The saved will repent (change from sins),
call upon the Lord (Ephesians 2:4-7). They will ask Jesus into their lives and
believe (Acts 13:48).
Ephesians 1:3

Philippians 3:20

Colossians 3:1-2 "If ye

are above, where Christ sitteth on the right
hand of God. {2} Set your affection on
things above, not on things on the earth."

buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed
how he buildeth thereupon. {11} For other foundation can no man lay than that is
laid, which is Jesus Christ."
See my paper:
"Apostles" for

Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone: Temple
is equated to Jesus as Lord. He is the head of the Church and directs its members.
We as Christians are part of his body.

also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion
a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that
believeth on him shall not be confounded. {7} Unto
you therefore which believe <he is> precious: but unto them
which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the

F) BELIEVER'S LIFE TO HIS
HOME LIFE: {EPHESIANS 5:22-6:4}
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COMPARISON: FAMILY
& CHRIST TO CHURCH {EPHESIANS 5:22-29}
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) Wives, submit yourselves unto your own
husbands, as unto the Lord. {Ephesians 5:22}
(2) For the husband is the head of the wife, even
as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour
of the body. {Ephesians 5:23}
(3) Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so
let the wives be to their own
husbands in every thing. {Ephesians 5:24}
(4) Husbands, love your wives, even as
Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; {Ephesians 5:25}
(5) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the
washing of water by the word, {Ephesians 5:26}
(6) That he might present it to himself a glorious church,
not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it
should be holy and without blemish. {Ephesians 5:27}
(7) So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies.
He that loveth his wife loveth
himself. {Ephesians 5:28}
(8) For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it,
even as the Lord the church: {Ephesians 5:29}
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ephesians 5:22
"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto
the /\ Lord
/\."
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord:
1 Corinthians 14:34-36 "Let
your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto
them to speak; but <they are commanded> to be under obedience,
as also saith the law. {35} And if they will learn
any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame
for women to speak in the church. {36} What? came
the word of God out from you? or came it unto you
only?"
Colossians 3:18
"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord."
1 Timothy 2:11 "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection."
Titus 2:5 "<To be>
discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands,
that the word of God be not blasphemed."
1 Peter 3:1-2 "Likewise, ye
wives, <be> in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any
obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation
of the wives; {2} While they behold your chaste conversation
<coupled> with fear."
Ephesians 5:23
"For the husband is the head of the wife, even as T Christ T is the head of the [ church ]: and M
he M
is the saviour of the [
body ]."
Husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is head of the church:
1 Corinthians 11:3 "But I
would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the
head of the woman <is> the man; and the head of Christ <is>
God."
[ CONCLUSION ]
THEREFORE
Ephesians 5:24
" [ Therefore ] as the [ church ] is
subject unto T Christ
T, so <let> the wives
<be> to their own husbands in every thing."
Church is subject unto Christ, so wives to their own husband:
Colossians 1:18
"And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the
beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all <things> he might have
the preeminence."
Ephesians 5:25
"Husbands, love your wives, even as T Christ T also [ loved ] the [ church ], and gave T
himself T
for it;"
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also
loved the church:
Colossians 3:19 "Husbands, love <your> wives, and be
not bitter against them."
See my paper: "Man's
Relationship with his Wife, Family, & Friends" for more information on this subject.
Ephesians 5:26
"That M he M
might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,"
He might sanctify & cleanse it with washing of water by the word:
John 17:17
"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."
John 14:6 "Jesus saith
unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me."
Hebrews 13:12
"Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with
his own blood, suffered without the gate."
See my paper: "God's
Word/Bible/Scriptures" for more information on this subject.
Ephesians 5:27 "That
M he
M might present it to M himself M a
glorious [
church ], not
having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy
and without blemish." Holy = consecrated & set apart
He might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot:
Colossians 1:22
"In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in
his sight:"
Ephesians 5:28
"So ought men to [
love ] their wives as their own
bodies. He that [
love ] his wife [ loveth ] himself."
Men to love their wives as their own bodies..love wife, love self:
Colossians 3:19 "Husbands, love <your> wives, and be not
bitter against them."
Ephesians 5:29
"For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth
and cherisheth it, even as the /\ Lord /\ the [ church ]:"
Ephesians 5:30
"For we are members of his [ body ], of his
flesh, and of his bones."
We are members of his body, his flesh, and his bones:
John 17:22 "And the glory
which thou gavest me I have given them; that they
may be one, even as we are one: {23} I in them, and thou
in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may
know that thou hast sent me, & hast loved them, as thou..loved me."
Romans 12:5 "So we, <being>
many, are one body in Christ, and every one members
one of another."
1 Corinthians 12:27
"Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular."
Colossians 1:24
"Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which
is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which
is the church:"
Colossians 2:19 "And not holding the Head, from which all the body
by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God."
Ephesians 5:31
"For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall
be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be [ One ] flesh."
A man leave his father and mother..shall
be joined unto his wife.. two shall be one flesh:
Genesis 2:24
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall
cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?"

which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two,
saith he, shall be one flesh."
See my paper: "Marriage,
Divorce, & Re-marriage" for more information on this subject.
Ephesians 5:32
"This is a great [
mystery ]: but I speak concerning T Christ T and the [ church ]."
This is a great mystery..I
speak concerning Christ and the church:
Colossians 1:27
"To whom God would make known what <is> the riches of the glory
of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope
of glory:"
1 Timothy 3:16 "And without
controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in
the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto
the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."
Ephesians 5:33
"Nevertheless let every [ One ] of you in particular so [ love ] his wife even
as himself; and the wife <see> that she reverence <her>
husband."

shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It
is even a vapour, that appeareth
for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
{15} For that ye ought to say, If
the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that."

against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places
{Ephesians 6:12}
(3) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in
the evil day, and having done all, to stand. {Ephesians 6:13}
(4) Stand therefore, having your loins girt
about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
{Ephesians 6:14}

of the gospel of peace; {Ephesians 6:15}
(6) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith
ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. {Ephesians

(7) And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: {Ephesians 6:17}
(8) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in
the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and
supplication for all saints; {Ephesians 6:18}

Ephesians 6:12
"For (2) we wrestle not
against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high <places>."

rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness:
1 Corinthians 15:50
"Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and
blood cannot inherit the kingdom
of God; neither doth
corruption inherit incorruption."

which passeth all understanding, shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Ephesians 6:16

wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."
Shield of faith:

word of God <is> quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing
