Paul is writing from a prison cell in Rome nearing his death for Christ:
Paul's two prison stays are in a Rome prison first house arrest then in a cold cell:
2nd Timothy, written in 67 AD, was the last letter Paul wrote just before his death. Paul was imprisoned, in Rome twice. The first time, 62 AD, in a rented house. The second time in a cold cell before his execution for the faith of Jesus.
Acts 28:30-31 "And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him, {31} Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him."
He was released and went on his fourth missionary journey:
The second prison time Paul is in a cold cell in Rome:
2 Timothy 2:8-9 "Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; {9} Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound."
2 Timothy 4:6-7 "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. {7} I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:"
I) SALUTATIONS: {1st TIMOTHY 1:1-2}
See my paper: "Godhead Relationship" for more information on this subject.
WHO: Paul
1 Timothy 1:1 "Paul, an apostle of M Jesus M T Christ T by the commandment of /\ God /\ our T Saviour T, and /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M T Christ T, <which is> our hope;"
Paul: Saul means asked for and Paul means little or small. Paul is in Rome in prison and certainly needs the comfort and help of Timothy, but he care for the church is of more importance. Paul's apostleship is shown in (1 Corinthians 9:1-2, 15:9-10). Paul has had plenty & little (Phil. 4:12). He does ask for cloak, books, parchments (4:13); in addition to Timothy's presents (4:9 & 4:21).
Apostle: An Apostle is one sent by God, with power of attorney and authority, to act (with power) in place of sender. He was chosen and ordained to the position to be a witness of what God shows him.
See my paper: "Apostles" for more information on this subject.
Apostles started many churches and appointed Elders to the church.
Sent my God-see my paper on: Church Offices & Their Qualifications.
1 Corinthians 9:1-2 "Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord? {2} If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord."
2 Corinthians 12:12 "Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.
Galatians 2:8 "(For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)"
By the commandment of God:
Luke 11:49 "Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and <some> of them they shall slay and persecute:" Jesus is the one to send the apostles, not man.
1 Corinthians 1:1 "Paul, called <to be> an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes <our> brother,"
Hope: Wishing and desire. Not knowing for sure. Depending upon.
Romans 5:4-5 "And patience, experience; and experience, hope: {5} And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us."
Romans 8:24-25 "For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? {25} But if we hope for that we see not, <then> do we with patience wait for <it>."
WHOM: Timothy my son in the faith
1 Timothy 1:2 "Unto Timothy, <my> own son in the [ faith ]: Grace, mercy, <and> peace, from /\ God /\ our /\ Father /\ and M Jesus M T Christ T our /\ Lord /\."
Timothy (Timotheus): Means worship of God. He was as a son to Paul. He was to carry on the ministry after Paul departed. His father was a Greek and mother was a Jew (Acts 16:1). His mother was Eunice and grandmother was Lois, both of whom were Christians (2 Timothy 1:5). Paul's letters send with regards from Timothy include: 2 Corinthians 1:1, Philippians 1:1, Colossians 1:1, 1&2 Thessalonians, Philemon 1 & Hebrews 13:23. Paul writes to Timothy in his 2 books. Paul addresses his ministry in 1 Cor 16:10 & 1 Timothy 4:11-4:16. His apostleship in 1 Thessalonians 1:1/2:6.
2 Timothy 1:4-6 "Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; {5} When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. {6} Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands."Paul's last testament from prison is to his spiritual son
My own son in the faith:
2 Timothy 1:2 "To Timothy, <my> dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, <and> peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord."
Titus 1:4 "To Titus, <mine> own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, <and> peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour."
Grace: Getting what we do not deserve. It is a gift (Romans 5:15). We are saved by grace (Acts 15:11 & Ephesians 2:8). It is given freely by God (Psalms 84:11). Grace grows by knowledge of Jesus (2 Peter 3:18) & humility (1 Peter 5:5).
James 4:6 "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."
Mercy: Not getting what we deserve. It is not earned (Titus 3:5).
Peace: Hebrew word Shalom used for hello, goodbye & God bless you.
Only God gives peace to ones spirit of forgiveness & restoration.
John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
Philippians 4:7 "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Peace the opposite to anxiety. Tranquillity & worry free.
God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: God is a triunity. God can not be divided. Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are not three separate persons. They are the way the one God manifests & reveals himself. If one sees Jesus, he also sees the Father and the Holy Spirit at the same time since God can not be separated
See my paper: "Triunity - Father, Son, & Holy Spirit" for more information on this subject.
Colossians 1:15). Jesus is perfect man and God.
Colossians 2:9 "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."
John 14:9-10 "Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou <then>, Show us the Father? {10} Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."
II) DOCTRINE INSTRUCTIONS: {1st TIMOTHY 1:3-20}
FALSE DOCTRINE: {1st TIMOTHY 1:3-11}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY WORD: TEACH {1 TIMOTHY 1:3-6:3}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) {1:3} Teach no other doctrine
(2) {1:7} Desiring to be teachers of the law not understanding what they say nor do
(3) {2:7} Paul, an apostle, speaks the truth in Christ, and I am not lying as teacher of the Gentiles in faith
(4) {2:12} Paul suffers a woman not to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be silence
(5) {3:2} bishop are to be blameless, have of one wife, vigilant, sober, good behaviour, hospitalable, & apt to teach
(6) {4:11} These things command and teach that Jesus is the living God who is savior of any men that believe
(7) {6:2} Teach & exhort the believing masters not despise the brothers; but do them service as faithful & beloved
(8) {6:3} If any man teach otherwise to Jesus words & to the doctrine which is according to godliness he is proud
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHERE: Ephesus
1 Timothy 1:3 "As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they [ teach ] no other [ doctrine ]," Macedonia visit not in book of Acts. This probably occurred after Paul's first imprisonment.
WHY: Teach no other doctrine
Teach no other doctrine:
Galatians 1:6-7 "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: {7} Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ."
WAY: Give heed to fables & endless genealogies which minister questions and not godly edifying in faith
1 Timothy 1:4 "Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than [ godly ] edifying which is in [ faith ]: <so do>."
Give heed to fables and endless genealogies .. godly edifying:
See my paper: "What Does God Really Want?" for more information on this subject.
2 Timothy 2:16 "But shun profane <and> vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY WORD: LOVE / CHARITY (LOVE IN ACTION) {1 TIMOTHY 1:14-6:11}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) {1:5} Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, a good conscience, & a faith unfeigned
(2) {1:14} And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus
(3) {2:15} Woman shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety
(4) {4:12} Even though you are young, be an example in: word, conversation, charity, spirit, faith, & purity
(5) {6:10} For the love of money is the root of all evil which is coverage
(6) {6:11} Flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, & meekness
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT: End of the commandments is charity out of pure heart, good conscience, & faith
1 Timothy 1:5 "Now the end of the [ commandment ] is [ charity ] out of a pure heart, and <of> a good conscience, & <of> [ faith ] unfeigned:"
Charity (Love in action):
See my paper: "Love" for more information on this subject.
1 Timothy 1:6 "From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;"
1 Timothy 1:7 "Desiring to be [ teachers ] of the [ law ]; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm."
Teachers of the law: Pharisees & Judaizers.
WHILE: Law is good if used lawfully
1 Timothy 1:8 "But we know that the [ law ] <is> good, if a man use it [ lawfully ];"
Law is good:
See my paper: "Questions & Answers on Law, Faith, & Liberty" for more information on this subject.
Romans 3:20-23 "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law <is> the knowledge of sin. {21} But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; {22} Even the righteousness of God <which is> by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: {23} For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
Romans 7:12 "Wherefore the law <is> holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good."
Galatians 3:21 "<Is> the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law."
WHILE: Law is not made for righteous man but lawless, ungodly sinners, unholy, & profane
1 Timothy 1:9 "Knowing this, that the [ law ] is not made for a righteous man, but for the [ lawless ] and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,"
Law is not made for a righteous man: See my paper on what God wants.
Romans 4:3 "For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness." Righteousness = right standing before God.
Romans 4:13 "For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith."
Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
Romans 10:4 "For Christ <is> the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth."
1 Timothy 1:10 "For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound [ doctrine ];"
NEW SUBJECT: Paul's grace
1 Timothy 1:11 "According to the glorious gospel of the blessed /\ God /\, which was committed to my trust."
Gospel:
See my paper: "True Gospel for Salvation by the Imputed Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.
GRACE DOCTRINE: {1st TIMOTHY 1:12-17}
WHILE: Lord enabled Paul counting him faithful in the ministry
1 Timothy 1:12 "And I thank T Christ T M Jesus M our /\ Lord /\, who hath enabled me, for that /\ he /\ counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;"
He counted me (Paul) faithful, putting me into the ministry:
Acts 9:15 "But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:"
WHY: Paul was a blasphemer, but obtained mercy because of ignorantly in unbelief
1 Timothy 1:13 "Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did <it> ignorantly in unbelief."
I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief:
Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"
WHAT: Grace of the Lord with faith and love by Christ Jesus was given Paul
1 Timothy 1:14 "And the grace of our /\ Lord /\ was exceeding abundant with [ faith ] and [ love ] which is in T Christ T M Jesus M."
Grace with faith and love:
See my paper: "Grace" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Faith" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Love" for more information on this subject.
WAY: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners which Paul was chief
1 Timothy 1:15 "This <is> a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that T Christ T M Jesus M came into the world to [ save ] sinners; of whom I am chief."
Save sinners of whom I am chief: Paul is saying that at this point
See my paper: "What is a Born-Again & How to Become One?" for more information on this subject.
he is a chief sinner, because of his past opposition to the Church.
Romans 7:18-19 "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but <how> to perform that which is good I find not. {19} For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do."
1 Timothy 1:16 "Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first M Jesus M T Christ T might show forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting."
1 Timothy 1:17 "Now unto the /\ King /\ eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise /\ God /\, <be> honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen."
1 Timothy 1:18 "This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;" Prophecies = God directing.
War a good warfare:
1 Timothy 6:12 "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."
2 Timothy 2:3-4 "Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. {4} No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of <this> life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."
1 Timothy 1:19 "Holding [ faith ], and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning [ faith ] have made shipwreck:"
See my paper: "Apostasy" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Unpardonable Sin" for more information on this subject.
1 Timothy 1:20 "Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme."
Hymenaeus: Name means nuptial or marriage.
2 Timothy 2:17 "And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;"
Alexander: Name means to assist or defender of men.
2 Timothy 4:14 "Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:"
Acts 19:33 "And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people."
I have delivered unto Satan:
1 Corinthians 5:5 "To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus."
III) WORSHIP INSTRUCTIONS: {1st TIMOTHY 2:1-15}
PRAYER DOCTRINE: {1st TIMOTHY 2:1-8}
WAY: Supplications, prayers, intercessions, & giving of thanks be made for all men to God
1 Timothy 2:1 "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, [ prayers ], intercessions, <and> giving of thanks, be made for all men;"
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE SUPPLICATIONS, PRAYERS, INTERCESSIONS & THANKS TO MEN
I exhort .. first of all .. prayers: See also my prayer paper.
See my paper: "Prayer" for more information on this subject.
WHAT IS PRAYER: Prayer is a conversation or communication
(dialogue of 2 sides) of our heart with God. It should not be
general but specific and its purpose is to get God's will done.
The intent should not be aimed at changing God's mind or purpose.
RELIGIOUS WORKS: Prayer should not be by the clock. It is not an obligation as required work or duty. Prayer should not be aimed at others to hear, but it is to be directed to God. It should be simple conversation with God from our hearts. Jesus prayed one hour in Mark 14:37-38 and all night in Luke 6:12. David & Daniel prayed three times a day as in Psalms 55:17 & Daniel 6:10.
1 Samuel 12:23 "Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:" No pray is sin. God wants our prayers.
1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 "Pray without ceasing. {18} In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
James 5:16 "Confess <your> faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY WORD: GODLINESS {1 TIMOTHY 2:2-6:11}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) {2:2} Prayer for everyone that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty
(2) {2:10} Women are to adorn themselves in modest apparel, which has women profess godliness & good works
(3) {3:16} Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory
(4) {4:7} But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness
(5) {4:8} Bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is profitable, having promise of the life of now & in the future
(6) {6:3} If any man teach otherwise even the words of our Lord, & to the doctrine which is according to godliness
(7) {6:5} Disputing men of corrupt minds, & destitute of the truth, that gain is godliness: withdraw from them
(8) {6:6} Godliness with contentment is great gain for we brought nothing into this world & can carry nothing out
(9) {6:11} Man of God, flee these things; & follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, & meekness
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHY: We may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty
1 Timothy 2:2 "For kings, and <for> all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all [ godliness ] and honesty."
For kings .. all .. in authority .. we may lead a quiet .. life in .. godliness:
Ezra 6:10 "That they may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons."
Romans 13:1 "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God."
Jeremiah 29:7 "And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace."
1 Timothy 2:3 "For this <is> good and acceptable in the sight of /\ God /\ our T Saviour T;"
Good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour: See also my papers: "Is Free Will Biblical? & Some Saved & Some Lost God's..."
1 Timothy 2:4 "/\ Who /\ will have all men to be [ saved ], and to come unto the knowledge of the truth."
Who will have all men to be saved .. come unto the knowledge of truth:
See my paper: "Is Free Will Biblical?" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Some Saved & Some Lost God's Sovereignty" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "God Plans for His Purpose. Who Harden Pharaoh's Heart?" for more information on this subject.
God's timing allows more people to repent and be saved.
Webster's defines will as: determination and controlling one's actions. Since, all men are not saved, then who are all men?
Matthew 3:5-6 "Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, {6} And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins."
All Judaea did not go out (Herod). All must refer to many or different kinds of people: Jews, Gentiles, rich, poor and Kings.
Other Free will scriptures:
Ezekiel 33:11 "Say unto them, <As> I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?"
2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
If God is willing, who can stop God's will? The text show that God is patient.
WHAT: There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus
1 Timothy 2:5 "For <there is> one /\ God /\, and one /\ mediator /\ between /\ God /\ and men, the man T Christ T M Jesus M;"
One God .. one mediator between God and men .. man Christ Jesus:
Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God <is> one LORD:"
Galatians 3:20 "Now a mediator is not <a mediator> of one, but God is one." Mediators handled many, but God made a sure commitment
Hebrews 12:24 "And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than <that of> Abel."
1 Timothy 2:6 "/\ Who /\ gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time."
Who gave himself a ransom for all: All = all kinds & types of peoples
One drop of Jesus blood is sufficient to save all men. No one in hell was saved by Jesus blood. Jesus died for Christians only.
Ransom is payment paid for redeeming a slave (Exodus 21:32).
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
1 Timothy 2:7 "Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in T Christ T, <and> lie not;) a [ teacher ] of the Gentiles in [ faith ] and verity."
WANT: Men pray every where lifting up holy hands
1 Timothy 2:8 "I will therefore that men [ pray ] every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting."
CONCLUSION: THEREFORE MEN PRAY LIFTING UP HOLY HANDS
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands:
Do not cease to pray: Paul made similar prayers in several books such as: Philippians 1:9-11
Romans 15:5-6, 13 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13
Ephesians 1:17-20 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

NEW SUBJECT: Woman not to teach
WOMAN TEACHING DOCTRINE: {1st TIMOTHY 2:9-15}
1 Timothy 2:9 "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;"
Women adorn themselves:
1 Peter 3:3-4 "Whose adorning let it not be that outward <adorning> of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; {4} But <let it be> the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, <even the ornament> of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price"
WANT: Women professing godliness with good works
1 Timothy 2:10 "But (which becometh women professing [ godliness ]) with good works."
WHAT: Let the woman learn in silence
1 Timothy 2:11 "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection."
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection:
1 Corinthians 11:3 "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman <is> the man; and the head of Christ <is> God."
1 Corinthians 14:34 "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but <they are commanded> to be under obedience, as also saith the law."
WAY: Women not to teach nor usurp authority over man, but to be in silence
1 Timothy 2:12 "But I suffer not a woman to [ teach ], nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."
I suffer not a women to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man:
See my paper: "Church Officers and their Qualifications" for more information on this subject.
Ephesians 5:22-24 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. {23} For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. {24} Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so <let> the wives <be> to their own husbands in every thing."
Colossians 3:18 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord."
1 Peter 3:1 "Likewise, ye wives, <be> in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;"
WHY: Adam was first formed then Eve
1 Timothy 2:13 "For Adam was first formed, then Eve."
Adam was first formed, than Eve:
See my paper: "Gospel in the Genealogy of Adam" for more information on this subject.
Genesis 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man <of> the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."
Genesis 2:22 "And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man."
1 Corinthians 11:8 "For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man."
1 Corinthians 11:12 "For as the woman <is> of the man, even so <is> the man also by the woman; but all things of God."
WHY: Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived in transgression
1 Timothy 2:14 "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression."
Adam was not deceived .. woman being deceived was in transgression:
Genesis 3:6 "And when the woman saw that the tree <was> good for food, and that it <was> pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make <one> wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."
Genesis 3:13 "And the LORD God said unto the woman, What <is> this <that> thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat."
2 Corinthians 11:3 "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."
1 Timothy 2:15 "Notwithstanding she shall be [ saved ] in childbearing, if they continue in [ faith ] and [ charity ] and holiness with sobriety."
She shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith:
Genesis 3:15-16 "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. {16} Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire <shall be> to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee." Eve is looking forward to the birth of Christ. All women are saved through faith, love, etc.
IV) LEADERSHIP INSTRUCTIONS: {1st TIMOTHY 3:1-16}
BISHOP DOCTRINE: {1st TIMOTHY 3:1-7} See my paper on Church Officers.
1 Timothy 3:1 "This <is> a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work."
A man desire the office of a bishop:
See my paper: "Inductive Bible Study of Titus" for more information on this subject.
PASTORS: Shepherd's & teacher's the flock for perfecting of saints.
The Church officers of Elder, Overseer, Presbyter, Bishop, Pastor and Shepherd are all similar positions. One may study Bible more.
Acts 20:28 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." (1 Peter 5:2: feed - shepherd and oversight - overseer)
Overseer is the same Greek word Bishop used in Philippians 1:1, 1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:7 and 1 Peter 2:25. Also called Elder in
Acts 14:23 which is the same position as Bishop and Presbyters as found in 1 Timothy 4:14 and 1 Timothy 5:17. "To feed" is the same Greek word as shepherd. Pastor is found in Ephesians 4:11 and is the Greek word for shepherd. The shepherd is the one into whose care the sheep (flock) have been committed for feeding, caring, and protection for growth to maturity. The purpose of the different words are as follows: Elder indicates a mature spiritual experienced person in a position of authority. Bishop indicates the character of the work undertaken as overseer or guardian. Shepherd or Pastor indicates the function or responsibility of watching, teaching, and guiding the flock.
Titus 1:5-9 "For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: {6} If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. {7} For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; {8} But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; {9} Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers."
1 Peter 5:1-5 "The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: {2} Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight <thereof>, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; {3} Neither as being lords over <God's> heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. {4} And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. {5} Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all <of you> be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble."
WHAT: Bishop must be blameless, husband one wife, vigitant, sober, good behaviour & hospitality apt to teach
1 Timothy 3:2 "A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to [ teach ];" One wife: see 1 Timothy 3:12 for Deacon.
Husband of one wife: Both Elders and Deacons are men.
Titus 1:6-8 "If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. {7} For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; {8} But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;"
Apt to teach:
1 Timothy 5:17 "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine."
2 Timothy 2:24 "And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all <men>, apt to teach, patient,"
1 Timothy 3:3 "Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;"
1 Timothy 3:4 "One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;"
1 Timothy 3:5 "(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of /\ God /\?)"
WAY: Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride fall into condemnation of the devil
1 Timothy 3:6 "Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil."
WHY: He must have a good report of them which are without, lest he fall into reproach & snare of the devil
1 Timothy 3:7 "Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil."
He must have a good report of them which are without .. Snare of the devil; 1 Timothy 3:2
See my paper: "Jewish Bible Teachings on Heaven, Hell, & Spirit Beings" for more information on this subject.
Titus 1:6 "If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly."
NEW SUBJECT: Deacon teaching
DEACON DOCTRINE: {1st TIMOTHY 3:8-16} See my paper on Church Officers.
WHAT: Deacons must be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre
1 Timothy 3:8 "Likewise <must> the deacons <be> grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;"
DEACONS: Reliable & spiritual men who serve the body of Christ in many ways as the needs arise.
The work of the Deacon is not explained in the Bible. It has been assumed that Acts 6:1-4 is that work. The definition of the word deacon is servant. The deacon is not ruler in church but a helper. Although, seven Deacons are found in Acts 6:3, this number was needed for the Jerusalem church of 5000 plus. The average church probably could use a maximum of one or two deacons.
Acts 6:1-4 "And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. {2} Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples <unto them>, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. {3} Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. {4} But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word."
The Bible gives examples of two of the seven, Stephen and Philip. Stephen became the first martyr as described in Acts 6:5 to 8:2.
Philip, is an Evangelist as described in Acts 21:8. He has a ministry among the Samaritans as described in Acts 8:1 to 8:40. Nothing is stated about either of their Deacon ministries.
1 Timothy 3:9 "Holding the mystery of the [ faith ] in a pure conscience."
Mystery of the faith:
Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith is not the same as hope. Hope is wishing for something. Faith is having it in a faith dimension.
When God reveals (manifests) it to this dimension is up to Him. We are to believe, when we pray, that the answer has already occurred. Future prayers are thanksgiving and praise for God's gift we have.
WAY: Let them be first proved, then let them use the office, being found blameless
1 Timothy 3:10 "And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being <found> blameless."
1 Timothy 3:11 "Even so <must their> wives <be> grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things."
WHILE: Deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and houses well
1 Timothy 3:12 "Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well."
Deacons be the husbands of one wife: True of Elder: 1 Timothy 3:2.
WHY: Purchase a good degree and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus
1 Timothy 3:13 "For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the [ faith ] which is in T Christ T M Jesus M."
1 Timothy 3:14 "These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:"
Hoping to come unto thee shortly: Bonds of prison. Nevertheless, Paul shows his faith that he will be release to go to them.
Philippians 1:13 "So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other <places>;"
Philippians 1:25-26 "And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith; {26} That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again."
Philippians 2:24 "But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly."
Philemon 22 "But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you."
1 TIMOTHY THEME & PURPOSE: TO INSTRUCT HIS PROTÉGÉ TIMOTHY IN HOW TO LEAD AND MINISTER IN THE HOUSE OF GOD, CHRIST CHURCH ON EARTH.

1 Thessalonians 5:12 "And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, & are over you in the Lord, & admonish you"
WAY: Scripture saith thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn for laborer is worthy of his reward
1 Timothy 5:18 "For the [ scripture ] saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer <is> worthy of his reward."
Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that tredeth out the corn:
Deuteronomy 25:4 "Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out <the corn>."
1 Corinthians 9:9 "For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?"
2 Timothy 2:6 "The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits." Husbandman & labor = hard working farmer.
1 Timothy 5:19 "Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses."
Before two or three witnesses:
Deuteronomy 17:6 "At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; <but> at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death."
Matthew 18:16 "But if he will not hear <thee>, <then> take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established."

Elect angels:
See my paper: "Jewish Bible Teachings on Heaven, Hell, & Spirit Beings" for more information on this subject.
1 Timothy 5:22 "Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure."
Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other's sins:
Do not ordain a person unworthy to be elder. Judge them by fruits.
Acts 6:6 "Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid <their> hands on them."
1 Timothy 5:23 "Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities."
Drink no longer water..use a little wine for thy stomach's sake:
The water was not as pure as water today. Timothy had many problems
with his stomach due to the water. Paul recommended that he take a little (not large amounts) wine (not grape juice) to help him.
WHILE: Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment
1 Timothy 5:24 "Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some <men> they follow after."
Some men's sins are open beforehand .. some men they follow after:
Revelation 14:13 "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed <are> the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."
WHY: Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand and they that are otherwise cannot be hid
1 Timothy 5:25 "Likewise also the good works <of some> are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid."
FOR MASTERS & SLAVES: {1st TIMOTHY 6:1-2}
1 Timothy 6:1 "Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of /\ God /\ and </\ his /\> [ doctrine ] be not blasphemed."
Servants .. masters worthy of all honour:
Ephesians 6:5 "Servants, be obedient to them that are <your> masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;"
1 Timothy 6:2 "And they that have believing masters, let them not despise <them>, because they are brethren; but rather do <them> service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things [ teach ] and exhort."
FOR FALSE TEACHERS: {1st TIMOTHY 6:3-5}
1 Timothy 6:3 "If any man [ teach ] otherwise, and consent not to wholesome [ words ], <even> the [ words ] of our /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M T Christ T, and to the [ doctrine ] which is according to [ godliness ];"
See my paper: "God's Word / Bible / Scriptures" for more information on this subject.
See my paper: "Bible Study & Interpretation Guideline" for more information on this subject.
1 Timothy 6:4 "He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,"
1 Timothy 6:5 "Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is [ godliness ]: from such withdraw thyself."
FOR MONEY & GODLINESS: {1st TIMOTHY 6:6-19}
1 Timothy 6:6 "But [ godliness ] with contentment is great gain."
1 Timothy 6:7 "For we brought nothing into <this> world, <and it is> certain we can carry nothing out."
1 Timothy 6:8 "And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."
WAY: They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare many foolish and hurtful lusts
1 Timothy 6:9 "But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and <into> many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition."
They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare:
Luke 12:16-21 "And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: {17} And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? {18} And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. {19} And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, <and> be merry. {20} But God said unto him, <Thou> fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? {21} So <is> he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."
WHAT: The love of money is the root of all evil which some coveted after
1 Timothy 6:10 "For the [ love ] of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the [ faith ], and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
The love of money is the root of all evil:
Matthew 6:24 "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."
WAY: Follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness
1 Timothy 6:11 "But thou, O man of /\ God /\, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, [ faith ], [ love ], patience, meekness."
Righteousness:

WANT: Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, thou art also called
1 Timothy 6:12 "Fight the good fight of [ faith ], lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life:
1 Corinthians 9:25 "And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they <do it> to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible."
1 Timothy 6:13 "I give thee charge in the sight of /\ God /\, who quickeneth all things, and <before> T Christ T M Jesus M, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;"
1 Timothy 6:14 "That thou keep <this> [ commandment ] without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our /\ Lord /\ M Jesus M T Christ T:"
Until the appearing of our Lord:

1 Timothy 6:16 "/\ Who /\ only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; /\ whom /\ no man hath seen, nor can see: to /\ whom /\<be> honour and power everlasting. Amen."
1 Timothy 6:17 "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the [ living ] /\ God /\, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;"
Charge them that are rich in this world .. they be not highminded:
Psalms 62:10 "Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart <upon them>."
1 Timothy 6:18 "That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;"
See my paper: "Questions & Answers on Law, Faith, & Liberty" for more information on this subject.
1 Timothy 6:19 "Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life."
FOR ONES MINISTRY: {1st TIMOTHY 6:20-21}
1 Timothy 6:20 "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane <and> vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:"
Keep that which is committed to thy trust:
2 Timothy 1:14 "That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us."
1 Timothy 6:21 "Which some professing have erred concerning the [ faith ]. Grace <be> with thee. Amen."
