1 Peter 1:16 "Because it is written, Be ye [ holy ] ; for /\ I /\ am [ holy ]."

Be ye holy; for I am holy:

Hebrews 12:14 "Follow peace with all <men>, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:"

1 Peter 1:17 "And if ye call on the /\ Father /\, /\ who /\ without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning <here> in fear:" Fear = reverence respect for God.

Without respect of persons .. judgeth according to every man's work:

God gives us these works & ability.

1 Corinthians 3:14 "If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward."

1 Peter 1:18 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, <as> silver and gold, from your vain conversation <received> by tradition from your fathers;"

John 1:29 "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." Lamb was without spot before, during & after the sacrifice.

1 Corinthians 5:7 "Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:" Jesus also no spiritual sin.

WHEN: IN THESE LAST TIMES FOR YOU

1 Peter 1:20 "/\ Who /\ verily was [ Foreordained ] before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,"

Foreordained: Jesus and the believers are chosen before the foundation of the world to be saved for God's purpose. This choice is not based on any of our future good works or beliefs. All our righteousness is as filthy rags (Is. 64:6). None righteous/worthy.

V) BELIEVER'S LIFE OF LOVE AND PURITY: {1 PETER 1:22-2:3}

1 Peter 1:22 "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the /\ [ Spirit ] /\ unto unfeigned love of the brethren, <see that ye> love one another with a pure heart fervently:"

WAY: BEING BORN AGAIN BY THE WORD OF GOD

1 Peter 1:23 "Being [ born ] again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of /\ God /\, which liveth and abideth for ever." Also see 1 Peter 1:3 for Born again & equal statements.

Not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God:

1 Corinthians 15:53-54 "For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal <must> put on immortality. {54} So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory."

1 Peter 1:24 "For all flesh <is> as grass, and all the { glory } of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:" Flesh as grass: man's transitory existence.

The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

Isaiah 40:6-8 "The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh <is> grass, and all the goodliness thereof <is> as the flower of the field: {7} The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people <is> grass. {8} The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever."

James 1:9-11 "Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways."

1 Peter 1:25 "But the word of the /\ Lord /\ endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you."

1 Peter 2:1 "Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,"

Laying aside all malice .. etc.:

Colossians 3:8 "But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth."

1 Peter 2:2 "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:" Grow in faith through the word.

Newborn babes, desire milk of the word, that ye may grow:

See my paper: "God's Word/Bible/Scriptures" for more information on this subject.

Hebrews 5:12-14 "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which <be> the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. {13} For every one that useth milk <is> unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. {14} But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, <even> those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."

1 Peter 2:3 "If so be ye have tasted that the /\ Lord /\ <is> gracious."

Tasted that the Lord <is> gracious:

Psalms 34:8 "O taste and see that the LORD <is> good: blessed <is> the man <that> trusteth in him." Taste = experience (Hebrews 6:5).

VI) POSITION OF THE BELIEVER - LIVING STONES, SPIRITUAL HOUSE & CHOSEN: {1 PETER 2:4-10}

1 Peter 2:4 "To /\ whom /\ coming, <as unto> a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but [ chosen ] of /\ God /\, <and> [ Precious ]," Christ: rock/stone

Living stone:

Psalms 118:22 "The stone <which> the builders refused is become the head <stone> of the corner."

Isaiah 28:16 "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner <stone>, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste."

Other living scriptures: Jesus is that life (John 14:6, John 1:4).

See my paper: "Bible Study & Interpretation Guideline" for more information on this subject.

Living bread:

John 6:51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

Living way:

Hebrews 10:20 "By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;"

MISC: {1 PETER 2:5-8} STONE/ROCK

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) {2:5} You are lively stones an holy priesthood acceptable to God

(2) {2:6} I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect precious; believes in Him and not be confounded

(3) {2:7} The stone the builders disallowed is made the head of the corner

(4) {2:8} A stone of stumbling & rock of offense to them that stumble at the word are appointed

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WAY: AS LIVING STONES, SPIRITUAL HOUSE, HOLY PRIESTHOOD, OFFER SACRIFICE TO GOD

1 Peter 2:5 "Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an [ holy ] priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to /\ God /\ by M Jesus M T Christ T." See 1 Peter 2:9 for priesthood.

Built up a spiritual house:

1 Corinthians 3:16 "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and <that> the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"

Ephesians 2:22 "In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit."

1 Peter 2:6 "Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, [ elect ], [ Precious ]: and he that believeth on /\ him /\ shall not be confounded." Confounded = shamed

I lay in Sion a chief corner stone:

See my paper: "Messianic Prophecies that Jesus Fulfilled" for more information on this subject.

Romans 9:32-33 "Wherefore? Because <they sought it> not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; {33} As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."

Isaiah 28:16 "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner <stone>, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste"

1 Peter 2:7 "Unto you therefore which believe <he is>[ Precious ]: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,"

Stone which the builders disallowed.is made the head of the corner:

Matthew 21:42, 44 "Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? {44} And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder."

Acts 4:11-12 "This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. {12} Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

1 Peter 2:8 "And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, <even to them> which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed."

Stumble at the word, being disobedient/they were appointed:

Their appointment does not make them less guilty of them rejecting.

Romans 9:18-21 "Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will <have mercy>, and whom he will he hardeneth. {19} Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? {20} Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed <it>, Why hast thou made me thus? {21} Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?"

Romans 13:1-7 "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. {2} Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. {3} For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: {4} For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to <execute> wrath upon him that doeth evil. {5} Wherefore <ye> must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. {6} For this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. {7} Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute <is due>; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour."

1 Peter 2:14 "Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well."

See my paper: "Man's Relationship with His Wife, Family, & Friends" for more information on this subject.

Ephesians 5:25, 28-29, 33 "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;" {28} So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. {29} For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:" {33} Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife <see> that she reverence <her> husband."

Colossians 3:19 "Husbands, love <your> wives, and be not bitter against them."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONCLUSION: FINALLY WHAT: BE ALL OF ONE MIND

1 Peter 3:8 "Finally, (1) <be ye> all of one mind, (2) having compassion one of another, (3) love as brethren, (4) <be> pitiful, (5) <be> courteous:"

WAY: LOVE AS BRETHREN, BE PITIFUL, BE COURTEOUS

Colossians 3:12 "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;"

1 Peter 3:9 "(6) Not rendering evil for evil, or (7) railing for railing: but (8) contrariwise blessing; (9) knowing that ye are thereunto [ called ], that ye should inherit a blessing." Railing = abuse

Not rendering evil for evil:

Luke 6:27-28 "But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, {28} Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you."

1 Peter 3:10 "For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:" Quoted from Psalms 34:12-16 as shown below.

Refrain his tongue from evil:

James 3:9-10 "Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. {10} Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be."

Psalms 34:12-16 "What man <is he that> desireth life, <and> loveth <many> days, that he may see good? {13} Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. {14} Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. {15} The eyes of the LORD <are> upon the righteous, and his ears <are open> unto their cry. {16} The face of the LORD <is> against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth."

1 Peter 3:11 "Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it." Eschew = turn aside from; ensue = pursue.

WHY: FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE OVER THE RIGHTEOUS

1 Peter 3:12 "For the eyes of the /\ Lord /\ <are> over the righteous, and /\ his /\ ears <are open> unto their prayers: but the face of the /\ Lord /\ <is> against them that do evil."

Lord over the righteous, & his ears <are open> unto their prayers:

See my paper: "True Gospel for Salvation by the Imputed Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.

John 9:31 "Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth."

VIII) ENCOURAGEMENT & TEACHINGS FOR SUFFERING: {1 PETER 3:13-17}

1 Peter 3:13 "And who <is> he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?" Except religious bigots/evil man.

1 Peter 3:14 "But and if ye [ suffer ] for righteousness' sake, happy <are ye>: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;"

If ye suffer for righteousness' sake:

See my paper: "Imputed/Reckoned/Counted Righteousness of Jesus" for more information on this subject.

Matthew 5:10 "Blessed <are> they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

1 Peter 3:15 "But sanctify the /\ Lord /\ /\ God /\ in your hearts: and <be> ready always to <give> an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the [ hope ] that is in you with meekness and fear:"

Be ready always to <give> an answer to every man the hope in you:

Psalms 119:46 "I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed."

1 Peter 3:16 "Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ."

1 Peter 3:17 "For <it is> better, if the will of /\ God /\ be so, that ye [ suffer ] for well doing, than for evil doing."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See my paper: "Between Jesus Death & Resurrection What did He Accomplish?" for more information on this subject.

1X) WHAT JESUS DID THE THREE DAYS BETWEEN HIS DEATH & RESURRECTION: {1 PETER 3:18-4:19}

What Jesus did the three days between his death and resurrection:

1 Peter 3:18 "For T Christ T also hath once [ suffered ] for sins, the just for the unjust, that T he T might bring us to /\ God /\, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the /\ [ Spirit ] /\:" See 1 Peter 2:24.

1) Once suffered for sins .. put to death in the flesh: Not His spirit.

Romans 6:10 "For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God." Not continued Catholic Masses.

Hebrews 7:27 "Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself." Once!!

Hebrews 10:10 "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once <for all>."Not his spirit

2) Jesus' suffering & death on the cross completed the sin atonement work for us:

John 19:30 "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost." Jesus did not suffer again since He completed law & our atonement.

Colossians 2:14-15 "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; {15} <And> having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it."

3 ) God was in Christ throughout the entire atonement process:

See my paper: "Did Jesus Die Spiritually?" for more information on this subject.

2 Corinthians 5:19 "To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation."

Luke 23:46 "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost." God had Jesus Spirit and controlled events.

4) Jesus went to Paradise:

Psalms 16:10 "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." Jesus went to both (Paradise = Abraham bosom) & hell & not stay dead but arise.

Luke 23:40-43 "But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? {41} And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. {42} And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. {43} And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."

Luke 16:19-21 "There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: {20} And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, {21} And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores."

Luke 16:22-26 "And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; {23} And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. {24} And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. {25} But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. {26} And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that <would come> from thence."

5) Jesus opened Paradise and took the saints to heavenly Paradise:

Ephesians 4:8-10 "Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. {9} (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? {10} He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)" Jesus went to Abraham bosom (Paradise) & led them to up.

Psalms 68:18 "Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, <for> the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell <among them>."

2 Corinthians 12:3-4 "And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) {4} How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter."

Revelation 2:7 "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God."

1 Peter 3:19 "By which also T he T went and preached unto the spirits in prison;"

6) He went and preached unto the spirits in prison:

Jesus also preached (proclaimed) who He is & what He completed. Not to give them a second chance. Yet, Noah had preached righteousness onto them during the time he built the ark. None of them responded to Noah.

Hebrews 9:27 "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" No second chance as Catholics/Purgatory.

TIME: WHILE

1 Peter 3:20 "Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of /\ God /\ waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water." For souls (persons) also see 1 Peter 1:9.

Days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing .. were saved by water:

Hebrews 11:7 "By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith."

2 Peter 2:5 "And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth <person>, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;"

1 Peter 3:21 "The like figure whereunto <even> baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward /\ God /\,) by the resurrection of M Jesus M T Christ T:" Filth of the flesh = sins in our lives.

7) Jesus conquered Satan & took the keys of hell/death/earth:

Matthew 28:18 "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth." Power over earth.

Colossians 2:15 "<And> having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it."

Hebrews 2:14-15 "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; {15} And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."

Revelation 1:18 "I <am> he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."

8) Jesus arose from the dead made alive (quickened) by the Spirit:

Acts 2:27 "Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." Jesus is alive.

Acts 2:31 "He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption." Jesus won over Satan, by the cross, arose from dead by Holy Spirit bring Him back to life (begotten that day).

Acts 13:33 "God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee."

Revelation 1:5 "And from Jesus Christ, <who is> the faithful witness, <and> the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood," Jesus now rules the earth.

9) Jesus goes to the Father to proclaim his success over Satan/sin:

John 20:14-17 "And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. {15} Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. {16} Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. {17} Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and <to> my God, and your God."

10) Jesus opened Paradise, now in heaven, & allow saints to arise:

Matthew 27:52-53 "And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, {53} And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many."

Like figure whereunto <even> baptism doth also now save us:

Baptism symbolizes Jesus and our: death, burial and resurrection which Christians believe for their salvation.

See my paper: "Forgiveness of sins" for more information on this subject.

See my paper: "Apostles Baptism" for more information on this subject.

See my paper: "Baptism for Forgiveness of Sins" for more information on this subject.

Romans 6:3-5 "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? {4} Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. {5} For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also <in the likeness> of <his> resurrection:

1 Peter 3:22 "T Who T is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of /\ God /\; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto T him T."

11) Gone into heaven..right hand of God..all..subject unto him:

Ephesians 1:20-22 "Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set <him> at his own right hand in the heavenly <places>, {21} Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: {22} And hath put all <things> under his feet, and gave him <to be> the head over all <things> to the church,"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 Peter 4:1 "Forasmuch then as T Christ T hath [ suffered ] for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath [ suffered ] in the flesh hath ceased from sin;"

He that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin: He has a higher priority to please God & will mortify his flesh (Rom 8:13).

Romans 8:17 "And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with <him>, that we may be also glorified together."

Hebrews 11:25-26 "Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; {26} Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward."

1 Peter 4:2 "That he no longer should live the rest of <his> time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of /\ God /\."

WHEN: TIME PAST GENTILES WALKED IN LASCIVIOUSNESS, LUSTS, EXCESS OF WINE

1 Peter 4:3 "For the time past of <our> life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:" Banqueting = drinking bouts. Also 2:10

Time past of our life .. we walked in (sin):

See my paper: "Walk as Jesus Walked" for more information on this subject.

Ephesians 2:2-3 "Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: {3} Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others."

1 Peter 4:4 "Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with <them> to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of <you>:"

1 Peter 4:5 "/\ Who /\ shall give account to T him T that is ready to judge the quick and the dead." Quick = living

Him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead:

See my paper: "Judgments of Believer & Unbeliever" for more information on this subject.

Acts 10:42 "And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God <to be> the Judge of quick and dead."Jesus will judge each person (works/faith/words)

2 Timothy 4:1 "I charge <thee> therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;"

1 Peter 4:6 "For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to /\ God /\ in the spirit." Christians,

now dead by martyrdom, and alive in the spirit after their death.

Preached while they were alive. There body is dead & spirit alive.

CONCLUSION: THEREFORE

1 Peter 4:7 "But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."

The end of all things is at hand, be ye sober, watch and prayer:

Philippians 4:5 "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord <is> at hand."

WAY: ABOVE ALL THINGS HAVE CHARITY FOR CHARITY COVERS THE MULTITUDE OF SINS

1 Peter 4:8 "And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins."

Have charity .. for it shall cover the multitude of sins:

Charity is love in action. Divine love with kindness, tenderness, affection & generosity to others.

See my paper: "Love" for more information on this subject.

Proverbs 10:12 "Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins."

Romans 13:10 "Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love <is> the fulfilling of the law."

1 Peter 4:9 "Use hospitality one to another without grudging."

1 Peter 4:10 "As every man hath received the gift, <even so> minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold [ Grace ] of /\ God /\."

As every man hath received the gift:

1 Corinthians 12:5-11 "And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. {6} And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. {7} But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. {8} For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; {9} To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; {10} To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another <divers> kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: {11} But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will."

1 Peter 4:11 "If any man speak, <let him speak> as the oracles of /\ God /\; if any man minister, <let him do it> as of the ability which /\ God /\ giveth: that /\ God /\ in all things may be glorified through M Jesus M T Christ T, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."

As the ability which God giveth:

Romans 12:4-8 "For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: {5} So we, <being> many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. {6} Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, <let us prophesy> according to the proportion of faith; {7} Or ministry, <let us wait> on <our> ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; {8} Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, <let him do it> with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness."

1 Peter 4:12 "Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:"

Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which .. try you:

Acts 14:22 "Confirming the souls of the disciples, <and> exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God."

WHAT: YOU ARE PARTAKERS OF CHRIST'S SUFFERINGS

1 Peter 4:13 "But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of T Christ's T [ sufferings ]; that, when his { glory } shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy."

Rejoice . as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings:

Romans 8:17 "And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with <him>, that we may be also glorified together."

Philippians 3:10 "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;"

1 Peter 4:14 "If ye be reproached for the name of T Christ T, happy <are ye>; for the /\ [ spirit ] /\ of { glory } and of /\ God /\ resteth upon you: on their part /\ he /\ is evil spoken of, but on your part /\ he /\ is { glorified }."

1 Peter 4:15 "But let none of you [ suffer ] as a murderer, or <as> a thief, or <as> an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters."

WHY: IF MAN SUFFER AS A CHRISTIAN, LET HIM NOT BE ASHAMED

1 Peter 4:16 "Yet if <any man [ suffer ] > as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him { glorify } /\ God /\ on this behalf."

Suffer as Christian, let him not be ashamed:

Colossians 1:24 "Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:"

1 Peter 4:17 "For the time <is come> that judgment must begin at the house of /\ God /\: and if <it> first <begin> at us, what shall the end <be> of them that obey not the gospel of /\ God /\?"

Time is coming that judgment must begin at the house of God: Jesus is our example & we follow his walk.

See my paper: "Judgments of Believer & Unbeliever" for more information on this subject.

1 Peter 4:18 "And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?"

And if the righteous scarcely be saved .. ungodly .. appear:

Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide <is> the gate, and broad <is> the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: {14} Because strait <is> the gate, and narrow <is> the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

1 Peter 4:19 "Wherefore let them that [ suffer ] according to the will of /\ God /\ commit the keeping of their souls <to him> in well doing, as unto a faithful /\ Creator /\."

X) INSTRUCTION TO ELDERS & FLOCK OF GOD: {1 PETER 5:1-14}

1 Peter 5:1 "The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the [ sufferings ] of T Christ T, and also a partaker of the { glory } that shall be revealed:"

Elder: The Apostle Peter call himself a fellow Elder (he is quite old at this time). Peter uses this title to define his office as Pastor. Elder = Pastor = Bishop = Shepherd = Overseer = Presbyter

See my paper: "Church Officers and Their Qualifications" for more information on this subject.

Acts 20:28 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." (1 Peter 5:2: feed - shepherd and oversight - overseer)

Overseer is the same Greek word Bishop used in Philippians 1:1, 1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:7 and 1 Peter 2:25. Also called Elder in Acts 14:23 which is the same position as Bishop and Presbyters as found in 1 Timothy 4:14 and 1 Timothy 5:17. "To feed" is the same Greek word as shepherd. Pastor is found in Ephesians 4:11 and is the Greek word for shepherd. The shepherd is the one into whose care the sheep (flock) have been committed for feeding, caring, and protection for growth to maturity. The purpose of the different words are as follows: Elder indicates a mature spiritual experienced person in a position of authority. Bishop indicates the character of the work undertaken as overseer or guardian. Shepherd or Pastor indicates the function or responsibility of watching, teaching, and guiding the flock.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIST: {1 PETER 5:2-3} ELDERS

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) {5:2} Feed the flock of God

(2) {5:2} Take the oversight

(3) {5:2} Not by constraint

(4) {5:2} But willingly

(5) {5:2} Not for filthy lucre

(6) {5:2} But of a ready mind

(7) {5:3} Neither as being lords over God's heritage

(8) {5:3} But being ensamples to the flock

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT: FEED THE FLOCK OF GOD NOT BY CONSTRAINT WILLINGLY NOT FOR FILTHY LUCRE

1 Peter 5:2 "(1) Feed the flock of /\ God /\ which is among you, (2) taking the oversight <thereof>, (3) not by constraint, (4) but willingly; (5) not for filthy lucre, (6) but of a ready mind;"

Feed the flock of God/taking the oversight .. not for filthy lucre:

1 Corinthians 9:16-18 "For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! {17} For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation <of the gospel> is committed unto me. {18} What is my reward then? <Verily> that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel."

John 21:15-17 "So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, <son> of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. {16} He saith to him again the second time, Simon, <son> of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. {17} He saith unto him the third time, Simon, <son> of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep."

Matthew 10:8 "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give."

WAY: BEING EXAMPLES TO THE FLOCK

1 Peter 5:3 " (7) Neither as being lords over </\ God's /\> heritage, (8) but being ensamples to the flock."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being ensamples to the flock:

2 Thessalonians 3:9 "Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us."

Mark 10:42-44 "But Jesus called them <to him>, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. {43} But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: {44} And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all."

WHEN: THE CHIEF SHEPHERD SHALL APPEAR

1 Peter 5:4 "And when the chief /\ Shepherd /\ shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of { glory } that fadeth not away."

Chief Shepherd shall appear: Jesus Christ

Other crowns:

1 Thessalonians 2:19 "For what <is> our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? <Are> not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?"

2 Timothy 4:8 "Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

James 1:12 "Blessed <is> the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him."

Revelation 2:10 "Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast <some> of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."

CONTRASTS: {1 PETER 5:5-6} HUMBLE VERSUS PROUD

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GRACE GIVEN -> HUMBLE

GOD RESIST -> PROUD

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 Peter 5:5 "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all <of you> be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for /\ God /\ resisteth the proud, and giveth [ Grace ] to the humble."

God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble:

See my paper: "Grace" for more information on this subject.

Proverbs 3:34 "Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly."

James 4:6 "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."

2 Peter 1:2 "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord," Increase grace 2nd way.

CONCLUSION: THEREFORE WHY: HE MAY EXALT YOU IN DUE TIME

1 Peter 5:6 "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of /\ God /\, that /\ he /\ may exalt you in due time:" James 4:6 above,

1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon /\ him /\; for /\ he /\ careth for you."

Casting all your care upon him:

Psalms 55:22 "Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."

Matthew 11:28-30 "Come unto me, all <ye> that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. {29} Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. {30} For my yoke <is> easy, and my burden is light."

1 Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" Be vigilant = be watchful.

Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

1 Peter 5:9 "Whom resist stedfast in the [ faith ], knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world."

Resist stedfast.same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren:

1 Corinthians 10:13 "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God <is> faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear <it>."

TIME: AFTER TIME: WHILE

1 Peter 5:10 "But the /\ God /\ of all [ Grace ], who hath [ called ] us unto his eternal { glory } by Christ Jesus, after that ye have [ suffered ] a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle <you>."

WHEN: YOU HAVE SUFFERED A WHILE MAKE YOU PERFECT, ESTABLISH, STRENGTHEN YOU

After that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect:

2 Corinthians 4:10-11 "Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. {11} For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh."

Hebrews 5:8-9 "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; {9} And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;"

1 Peter 5:11 "To him <be> { glory } and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."

1 Peter 5:12 "By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true [ Grace ] of /\ God /\ wherein ye stand."

Silvanus (Silas): Silvanus or Silas means born in the wood.

Acts 15:40 "And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God."

1 Peter 5:13 "The <church that is> at Babylon, [ elected ] together with <you>, saluteth you; and <so doth> Marcus my son."

Marcus my son: Gospel writer Mark. He had problems on Paul's missionary and departed. Mark means idle or lazy. Later Paul says Mark is profitable.

Acts 12:25 "And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled <their> ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark."

Acts 15:37-39 "And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. {38} But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work. {39} And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;"

2 Timothy 4:11 "Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry."

1 Peter 5:14 "Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace <be> with you all that are in T Christ T M Jesus M. Amen."

Romans 16:16 "Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you."
