While harsh langauge is not the only way to express and discuss responses to these issues, hip hop has always been a phenomenon born of a particular environment. A very rough and unforgiving one. One that is only receptive to realistic dialogue, so to my elders, please forgive me and my kind if our lyrics are not as "clean" as Will Smith's. We're walking a different street, and trying to reach a different audience. You can't cure a cancer by wondering if the medicine tastes harsh.
