Entered active duty as Regular Army (Enlisted) and refused the draft. Basic training and A.I.T. (Personnel Records Specialist - MOS71H20) Ft. Knox, KY.

Served with HHC, 16th MP Group, Ft. Geo. G. Meade, MD. Sailed to Vietnam Aug. 1966 aboard the USNS "Upshur". After stopping a Vung Tau to let the 18th MP Brigade off, sailed to Cam Ranh Bay and got off ship and flew to Nha Trang, Vietnam.

Transferred to 630th MP Com, Cam Ranh, Vietnam arriving in Nov (?) but definitely there in Dec. 1966. Served as Company Clerk. While at the 630th, I also served on the Alert Force on regular rotation, just like all the other MP's and support guys. I was machine gunner on jeep mounted gun, sometimes driver, etc. I also pulled ship guard duty when we were short of MP's and drove for the First Sergeant, and dignitaries.

Rank in Vietnam = SP4-E4. Left Vietnam Aug. 1967. Return to U.S. and served last 16 months at Ft. Benj. Harrison, Indianapolis, IN. Promoted to SP5-E5 (Permanent). Released from Active duty, Dec. 16th, 1968.
