| Why is this Avila house painted different colours? Colours change at least once a month! | |
I went to the many coloured house. No one home. As I trudged up the hill to the car I asked a neighbor if he knew why the house was many colours. The neighbor's story was that a married couple used to own the house. He said that while the man's wife was off with her lover, he painted the house many colours. He then sold the many coloured house to the present owner. One of the tenants is political activist, Archie McClarie. Archie thought painting the house even more vibrant colours would pep up Avila during these past several years of upheaval. His friend, Kelly, continually paints the house different colours. A wall be green one week,
yellow the next and pink the following week.No matter what the cause, this multi-coloured Avila Beach house is

In an unusual alliance, Unocal and the Avila residents worked together to create a new town with the old feel of a serene seaside fishing village. The entire charm of Avila is its laid-back nature on one of the most relaxing, meditative, fun beaches on the California coastline. We figure tourists will be happy to stay at the large Avila Beach Hotel or the small charming Inn at Avila Beach (805/595-2300) or in nearby Shell Beach, Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande or San Luis Obispo.
By the way, on your way to Avila, drop by the Avila Beach Barn for the freshest fruit. They are not hard-as-a-rock-polished-with-oil. They are locally grown. Sweet and juicy and edible the day you buy them. 560 Avila Beach Drive (805/595-2816)
