Circus
de Vida
or
The Crucified Clown
|
Self-Portrait. This was created when I felt like my life was like a circus. At first glance this is a happy picture, but Circus is replete with angry symbols. The woman feels like a clown, a foolish person. Yet she struggles for balance and wears two yin-yang necklaces while she tries to balance her Chakra balls of passion, calm and spirituality. Her aural string is purple - a yearning for spiritual balance. The tight-rope act portrays her life - a balancing act: her imaginary lover is skewered by a unicycle as he tries to protect her with the rainbow umbrella; her responsibilities are at the far end of the rope as she smells a rose and waves her bleeding palm. There is a peacock and peonies, and she rubs her toe on the penile flowered border. |
Oft times Life does seem like a circus. And you're inside the center ring trying to balance your chakra balls, surrounded by daily stressors while in the back of your mind you feel the soft winds blowing aside the curtains, beckoning you to other worlds. Meanwhile, you wear yet another mask - is there no end? Elegantly, imperceptibly, you gesture, afraid to say what you really feel. On your leg sits the vain peacock, it's beautiful tail feathers filled with embryos - of creativity? Birth or rebirth?
