Prayer from Dwight D. Eisenhower
"Before all else, we seek, upon our common labor as a nation, the blessings of Almighty God. And the hopes in our hearts fashion the deepest prayers of our whole people. May we pursue the right - without self-righteousness. May we know unity - without conformity. May we grow in strength - without pride in self. May we, in our dealings with all people of the earth, ever speak truth and serve justice." - Dwight D. Eisenhower

"Evidence!" author adds to Body of Work
"Most genealogy researchers already are familiar with Elizabeth Mills' modern-day classic Evidence! Citation & Analysis for the Family Historian - and if you are not, you certainly should be! This book has been heralded as the best single source for genealogical documentation since its publication in 1997. Its reissue earlier this year brought renewed sentiment that every genealogist should be required to own a copy." from Danny Wahlquist's Yahoo 360 Genealogy Blog, Dec 5, 2005

Kissin' Cousins
"If someone walked up to you and said "Hi, I'm your third cousin, once removed," would you know what they meant? Most of us don't think about our relationships in such exact terms ("cousin" seems good enough), so many of us aren't very familiar with what these words mean. When working on your family history, however, it's important to understand the various types of cousin relationships." from Danny Wahlquist's MyBlogSite Genealogy Blog, Dec 5

18 Tricks to Teach Your Body
"Clear your stuffed nose! Forget Sudafed. An easier, quicker, and cheaper way to relieve sinus pressure is by alternately thrusting your tongue against the roof of your mouth, then pressing between your eyebrows with one finger. This causes the vomer bone, which runs through the nasal passages to the mouth, to rock back and forth, says Lisa DeStefano, D.O., an assistant professor at the Michigan State University college of osteopathic medicine. The motion loosens congestion; after 20 seconds, you'll feel your sinuses start to drain." from Danny Wahlquist's Blogspot News Blog, Dec 2, 2005

Are their any disadvantages of testing the internationalization of a product running on US Windows XP & 2000 with the MUI (Multilingual User Interface) language group added, compared to a true localized version of the OS? Lessons From A Student Of Life by Jim Collins
"But for me, Drucker's most important lessons cannot be found in any text or lecture but in the example of his life. I made a personal pilgrimage to Claremont, Calif., in 1994 seeking wisdom from the greatest management thinker of our age, and I came away feeling that I'd met a compassionate and generous human being who - almost as a side benefit - was a prolific genius. We have lost not a guru on a pedestal but a beloved professor who welcomed students into his modest home for warm and stimulating conversation. Peter F. Drucker was driven not by the desire to say something but by the desire to learn something from every student he met - and that is why he became one of the most influential teachers most of us have ever known." from Danny Wahlquist's Blogspot News Blog, Nov 27, 2005

Internationalization Tag Set (ITS) W3C Working Draft 22 November 2005
"This document defines data categories and their implementation as a set of elements and attributes called the Internationalization Tag Set (ITS). ITS is used with new and existing schemas to support the internationalization and localization of schemas and documents. Implementations of ITS are provided for three schema languages: XML DTDs, XML Schema and RELAX NG. In addition, implementations are provided as fixed modularizations of various existing vocabularies (e.g. XHTML, DocBook, Open Document). The definition of the data categories is still in an early draft stage. Feedback is especially appreciated on the general conception of ITS and the means of scope of ITS information in particular." from Danny Wahlquist's Jroller Localization Blog, Nov 23, 2005

Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving Prayer
"The year that is drawing towards its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God."

Jerry Falwell thankful for America's Founders
"I'm thankful for America's Founders. George Washington proclaimed the first National Day of Thanksgiving in 1789, while Abraham Lincoln restored that tradition during the Civil War. Our Founders understood that America needed to depend on the Almighty in order to thrive. I often try to envision Benjamin Franklin rising to give his beautiful call to prayer in 1787 as representatives had become flustered after weeks of trying to write the Constitution of the United States. The 81-year-old Franklin offered one of the most beautiful discourses ever recorded. He said, in part:"
"I have lived, Sirs, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: 'that God governs in the affairs of man.' And if a sparrow cannot fail to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured, Sirs, in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel; we shall be divided by our little partial local interests, our projects will be confounded; and we ourselves shall become a reproach and a byword down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter, from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing government by human wisdom and leave it to chance, war, or conquest."

Abraham Lincoln was carried by the angels to the New Jerusalem above
Lincoln suffered a great blow while president - his twelve year old son Williw died on February 20, 1862. The president was driven to his knees, quite literally. Ida Tarbell writes: "Religion up to this time has been an intellectual interest. . . . From this time on he was seen often with the Bible in his hand, and he is known to have prayed frequently. His personal relation to God occupied his mind much." Says William J Wolf, "No President has ever had the detailed knowledge of the Bible that Lincoln had. No President has ever woven its thoughts and its rhythms into the warp and woof of his state papers as he did." Mary Todd Lincoln recalled her husband's last words as they sat in the theater: "He said he wanted to visit the Holy Land and see those places hallowed by the footprints of the Saviour. He was saying there was no city he so much desired to see as Jerusalem. And with the words half spoken on his tongue, the bullet of the assassin entered the brain, and the soul of the great and good President was carried by the angels to the New Jerusalem above."

Teachings of the Bible from Theodore Roosevelt
Every thinking man, when he thinks, realizes that the teachings of the Bible are so interwoven and entwined with our whole civic and social life that it would be literally - I do not mean figuratively, but literally - impossible for us to figure what that loss would be if these teachings were removed. We would lose all the standards by which we now judge both public and private morals; all the standards towards which we, with more or less resolution, strive to raise ourselves. --Theodore Roosevelt

2. The gift is a trust, it is not ours.
3. The trust is to be invested, not guarded (always involves risk).
4. The rewards are huge!
5. What you use, you gain. What you don't, you lose.
6. Your trust becomes a test of your love for Jesus.

Jesus would have belonged to no party in a two party system. There is no party line for Jesus to walk. I feel like we have got to move on and stop being so childish. Move on from these categorical, derogatory statements and names for each other and start commending about each other what is commendable and then move on from that point of unity to figure out how we can love and care for people. "I'll be honest. If I were starting a company I would try to do it without much VC, if any. Why? Cause I know some folks who've worked for VC-run startups. Ones where the investors made billions. Where the founders got maybe a hundred million. And where everyone else got literally bubkiss. I hear these stories all the time. How the investors just don't care about the developer. The folks who actually make the product work and make it pretty. Er useful. Is there a new kind of VC that looks for a win-win-win? I'm not sure. In the Technology discussion group at the GALA Annual Meeting, we have decided to pick up this topic and start a web blog on it. We therefore welcome any comments you have regarding this topic, or any experiences you would like to share with the rest of the world: What tool are you using, what are the pros and cons from your point of view? Did you create your own tool, what are the obstacles to look out for? Are you validating tools at the moment, would you like to share some of your results? Printing FTM wide-format
It is easily done with software from Kinkos. Go to their website and download "File, Print tool". Then just follow instructions. You can then select a wide variety of sizes or use your own. You then write the file to a floppy and take it to a local Kinko's and they will print while you wait. from Danny Wahlquist's WordPress Blog, Nov 8

Repetitive Information Injury
NADD sufferers walk a delicate tight rope between effectively consuming large amounts of information and losing themselves in a endless loop of useless, frustrating information acquisition motions that I'll call Repetitive Information Injury ("RII"). For me RII shows up late in the day. I'm between meetings and having nothing urgent on my to do list. I sit down at the computer and scan my unread email. Once done there, I click on a couple of tab groups in Safari and scan the news. Lastly, I switch to NetNewsWire and scan for changes on my 75+ feeds. And then... I do it again. from Danny Wahlquist's Bloglines News Blog, Nov 8

Almighty God...I yield Thee humble and hearty thanks that thou has preserved me from the danger of the night past, and brought me to the light of the day, and the comforts thereof, a day which is consecrated to Thine own service and for Thine own honor. Let my heart, therefore, Gracious God, be so affected with the glory and majesty of it, that I may not do mine own works, but wait on thee, and discharge those weighty duties thou requirest of me. from Danny Wahlquist's AOL Blog, Nov 8, 2005  AOL Blog

Saxon 8.6 supports XSLT 2.0, XQuery 1.0, and XPath 2.0 Candidate Recommendations
The latest version of Saxon is version 8.6. This is a complete and conformant implementation of the XSLT 2.0, XQuery 1.0, and XPath 2.0 Candidate Recommendations published earlier today (3 November 2005) by W3C. This is a significant milestone for the specifications and therefore for Saxon. Although thousands of users have downloaded the product and deployed it in production applications while the specifications were still drafts, many have held back waiting for the language to become stable. from Danny Wahlquist's Mindsay Docbook Blog, Nov 8, 2005

Definition of software internationalization
Software internationalization from wikipedia: Internationalization and localization are means of adapting products such as publications or software for non-native environments, especially other nations and cultures. Internationalization is often abbreviated as I18N (or i18n or I18n), by IBM and others, where the number 18 refers to the number of letters omitted. "Localization" is often abbreviated L10n or l10n in the same manner. (The most common forms are i18n and L10n, respectively. These forms won out because many fonts do not readily distinguish uppercase "I" and lowercase "l", but lowercase "i" and uppercase "L" are always clear.) Both notions are sometimes collectively termed globalization (g11n), but that word has a more common meaning. Also seen in some circles, but less commonly, are "p13n" for personalization, "m17n" for multilingualization, and "r3h" for reach, as in the reach of a website across countries and markets. from Danny Wahlquist's Jroller Localization Blog, Nov 2, 2005

Genealogy Research Quick Start
When I used to teach a genealogy class, I always started the first lesson with an instruction to the students to "go home and interview" as many living relatives as you can find. Record the interviews when possible and include family traditions, old wives tales, historical information, and most of all the memories of those who might not be around five, ten, or twenty years from now. I still think this is the BEST way to get started and I know that you won't be sorry later. Don't be afraid to ask! from Danny Wahlquist's Bloglines News Blog, Oct 29

3 Confront the Brutal Facts - "maintain unwavering faith that you can and will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties, AND at the same time have the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality.."
