Adam Alberts RedBull Glider

Adam Albert, guided by who can tell what demented cosmic forces, sent this  fine pic of his Red Bull Flug Tag entry. Red Bull who peddles a good time sport drink, promotes an event where folks of varying degrees of sanity make running leaps into the sea in contraptions of varying degrees of aerodynamic seriousness. Adam’s was one of the more thoughtful entries. He tells me his wife is doing the flying.  It occurred, that this would make a fine entry in the scale glider towline event. So  I inquired and was broken hearted to learn that inside the ring is a propeller powered by a 1 wp* engine.  It was not, Alas! a glider after all.

The following year Adam who was not the sort to be discouraged by failure created the entry  pictured on the right. He writes . . “The aircraft flew well, but pilot seat broke off 20 [feet] after take off. The aircraft continued for  about 80 more feet before landing.” which seems like progress. The propeller can be seen at the front of the aircraft.
*wp = wife power

A Japanese Birdman Glider
I  received a very funny disk from Paul Dunlop, our man in New Zealand. It contained a low resolution mpg file of an
entry in a Japanese event much like the Redbull Flugtag only they take it more seriously. They call themselves ”Birdmen”. Some of the entrants are real manpowered airplanes.  Here are some stills.

As you can see it flew- after a fashion.

So fellow FAC flyers do your bit for the hoopy cause and
DOMINATE!!
the Pinkham field tow line event
